Greg has undeniably lead the way, and there are some sincere politicians in this effort.

Jay O'Brien has his record to demonstrate his efforts on illegal immigration.

John Stirrup championed a Resolution.

Unfortunately folks we have some Republican's running for office who are blowing smoke to win votes.

Beware of opportunist. Once elected they're not going to do anything to help this effort.

There are laws on the books right now that need to be enforced, ask them what they're doing NOW, not later.

Lafayette: YOU GO!!! The thing about "anon" is that he/she/it is "a non-player" in this game. Does not have a pair to step into the trenches as Greg has and lead the way. With Greg's leadership, we have turned this Blog into a powerhouse and Greg is being interviewed more times than Faisal Gill's next door neighbors by the Treasury Department Investigators. Thank you, Greg, for all you have done.

Greg has made a difference in ALL of our lives, and for the better. He has not just sat on his laurals, he constantly fights the good fight and WE are the better for it. I have tried to put out the message, but Greg does it without any effort - the passion that flows thru his veins is something that can't be held back. Alexander the Great was but in his 30s when he died, yet what he did in his life is still remembered today. Greg, thru this blog and now the TV interviews is able to reach an even WIDER audience in MUCH LESS TIME.

Thank you, Greg, and don't EVER let your detractors bring you down to THEIR LOW LEVEL because all of us are here to make sure that the word gets out to the masses and what is RIGHT and GOOD about Prince William County and the rest of this great state REMAINS good and right.

Just who do you think you are? Greg L a fraud? What are SMOKING!!?? Everyone knows Greg L is a MOTIVATING man. As a PW native, I've never seen anyone get the ball rolling on any issue the way MY PRESIDENT GREG L has. How long have you lived in PWC, MC OR MP? Or do you live in the "LAND OF DENIAL" a/k/a Fairfax County? So, do tell what the heck have you done? My guess is nothing more than sit back, and then piss and moan about it. All members of HSM and many other concerned citizens have MADE a HUGE impact on our community in a very short time. I devoted my entire VACATION, to my community for the good of ALL!!! These are the kinds of things I do. So, what do you have to say for YOURSELF?

Dolph,

The GOP has been working on this problem at least on the State level for the last few years. Can the Dems say the same?

Mark Warner, another Dem was in power before Timmy took office. Warner was pretty much useless as well.

If you look at the Senate bill that went down in flames the last two years, it had much more support among the Dems.

COM,

Think again. I am equal opportunity when it comes to holding politicians responsible for inaction. I just haven't been convinced that state Republicans have done such a hot job either. I see some scrambling now, en mass, to correct a situation now the horse is out of the barn.

It is very difficult to ignore that on the national level, those who truly hold the power to have not allowed the illegal immigration situation to get where it is today, turned a blind eye and did absolutely NOTHING but roll out the red carpet. And for that, I do hold the Republican Party responsible. They owned the power.

Tim Kaine was inaugurated in January. Who was governor before that, and what party did he belong to?

I do applaud the efforts of those who are now trying to enact legislation to correct the horrible situation we are in now. I feel it is too little, too late in some cases, but to do nothing is worse. I will be looking at who holds the most anti-illegal immigration marbles on election day, not what party they belong to. I might even have to become the dreaded, single-issue voter for this election.

Dolph,

That might be the case for some bills, mostly on the Federal level. However, having read a number of bills that were introduced last year on the State level, I would say the bills were pretty much to the point.

I think you have a problem assigning blame to the Dems when it is clear they are to blame for the majority of the problems when it comes to illegal immigration issues in the GA.

COM,

I find that a lot of bills get stuck because they are not pure bills. They have all sorts of other unrelated issues attached. I think our elected officials could fix this problem but they do not want to. That way they can weasel out of their political decisions or run something through they would otherwise never get passed.

Of course, the above is just a sweeping generality but does speak to the politics of our country, from the local level all the way to national politics. It is not wonder nothing gets done. I hold both parties responsible for this behavior. Equal opportunity contempt here.

I wrote to Tim Kaine asking him to install 287g as Va State Police policy.
Here is his response:
__________________________________________________________

Thank you for your letter concerning an issue of great importance to the Commonwealth. I have long opposed illegal immigration, and I believe that we must protect Virginians and taxpayer dollars from financial and public safety threats presented by illegal immigration. I believe that Virginia has taken appropriate steps to limit government services available to those in the country illegally and that we have an effective working relationship with the federal Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The Commonwealth works closely with ICE on a range of matters and will continue to pursue future opportunities with ICE. While we have meaningful laws in place and a strong partnership with ICE, I do not believe it is in the best interest of the Commonwealth to take on unfunded federal responsibilities. ICE is concentrating its resources in Virginia on serious crimes committed by those illegally in the country. The Commonwealth will continue to support those efforts. As ICE expands its role and resources in Virginia , we will look to expand our existing level of cooperation to support that commitment.

As indicated, I am pleased that state agencies already work closely with ICE. I strongly encourage ICE to devote the resources necessary to maximize the value of that cooperation. I have already encouraged our agencies to continue to explore ways to expand the relationship with ICE at the operational level, with the goal of advancing state law enforcement goals and preventing serious crimes from being committed by those in the country illegally.

Among the agencies already working with ICE on matters of common concern are the Virginia State Police, the Department of Corrections and the Department of Motor Vehicles. These areas of cooperation represent a serious commitment on the part of the Commonwealth to address criminal activity by those who have entered the country illegally.

Again, I thank you for your input regarding this issue. I look forward to exploring more ways by which the Commonwealth can build on these successes.

Sincerely,

Timothy M. Kaine

Governor of Virginia

Dave B.:

In today's Viriginia edition of "The Examiner" there is an article titled, "Herndon labor ordinance struck down by judge"

First paragraph:

"A Fairfax county Circuit Court judge has struck down a Herndon law forbidding employers to solicit day laborers anywhere but at single center, a new turn in an already complex tangle of immigration, labor and law in the small Virginia town."

If I misinterpretted that statement and the article as a whole, then I apologize.

Here is a link to the print edition as I could not find the article posted on line:

The article is on the bottom of page 4.

Dolph,

There number is 4. The problem as I pointed out is not just the Dems but the few Repubs in the Senate who are not tough on the problem either, if we had more folks of either party who carried about the issue we would be OK. However, there are clearly more Dems then Repubs who refuse to do anything about this issue.

The other thing that hampers the GOP in the Senate are the Committees which killed a number of bills directed at illegal immigration.

"it has been decided in court that day laborers can essentially be hired by anyone from anywhere they choose to stand and wait for work."

Ehhh??

When did this happen? I don't recall a court ever saying that it is now legal to hire illegal aliens and that the illegal aliens can now loiter on public property. Maybe I missed that decision?

COM,

I thought there were 6 but I am probably wrong about the numbers. It still seems like a Republican problem to me since they have the majority. If all are not on board, then that is a Republican problem, not a Dem problem.

I also am cutting the Democrats in Congress no slack. I have heard the same excuses used there.

I am an Independent. Both parties spend way too much time playing party politics and trying to upstage each other to ever get much done for their constituents, in my opinion.

I was talking to a friend of mine last night who lives near the Herndon Day Labor site. He told me that the 7-11 near there has armed guards. I thought he was kidding. He said NO, he wasn't kidding me at all. It was to prevent loitering there.

Can anyone confirm this?

Anyone else read this morning about the Herndon ruling on hiring day laborers?

Now that Herndon plans to move forward with having its day laborer site operated by people who will verify the immigration status of potential laborers...it has been decided in court that day laborers can essentially be hired by anyone from anywhere they choose to stand and wait for work.

This is trully disturbing.
