Umm, about that...
Reagan was 73 when he ran for re-election in 1984. Warner is 80 now. Colgan is about to turn 81.

Intersting thoughts.

With that rationale, Reagan should not have been President.

But then, he is the exception, aint he?

NoVA Scout - ok, I am ready for the flame wars on THIS comment, lol, but, Corey's predecessor ran for Lt. Gov - what made him think he had a chance??? People run because of civic duty (rare these days) or ego (all too common). Yes, I agree and applaud him on the illegal alien issue - good for him, but, that being said, just because I know how to fix Microsoft Windows problems doesn't mean I am ready to run Microsoft. But, as long as he doesn't fall asleep during meetings and his constituents are happy, maybe he just needs to separate himself from certain people and concentrate on those issues that really matter, and once he proves himself, then go for higher office. Right now, too many people feel that Corey is just in it for himself.

Harry is wrong on his wish, but I do understand his logic. But, IF there is a trounce by Warner, it will be because of the voting bloc called "Northern Virginia." NOVA is to the rest of the state as NYC is to the rest of NY...just ask Hillary.

Think about it, Harry. Why would Republicans run someone a relatively untested newcomer like Corey Stewart against Connolly or Byrne? Why would Stewart, who hasn't yet run in even a regular county-wide election even want to throw himself against a tough opponent in a fast-blue-ing district when he hasn't even had a chance to have an impact in Prince William? I don't think we'd accommodate you Dems by doing something like that. And Mark Warner will be formidable, no doubt, but Davis would be a strong opponent. Of course, you're right that Gilmore would get crushed, but I don't think that's in the cards. We have problems in the Party, but we're not abject defeatists. So hold your gloating.

I suspect that Colgan would be just as happy to quit and join John Warner in more leisurely pursuits. But he doesn't have that luxury. John Warner would not have resigned if a possible alternative was that Bob FitzSimmonds would have succeeded him. Fortunately we have an interesting possibility of a sound issues-oriented U.S. Senate race between two intelligent, articulate and capable opponents that will bring credit to Virginia. Then again, there's always the possibility that Jim Gilmore will be looking for work at about that time.

But if Colgan isn't there who will tell us we already get our fair share of transportation dollars?
