Corey Stewart Blasts Congress
By Greg L | 7 September 2007 | National Politics, Illegal Aliens, Prince William County | 26 Comments
Prince William County Board Chairman Corey Stewart blasted congress at a hearing of the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security and Internal Law yesterday, bluntly telling the members that the reason Prince William County is on the front lines of the immigration debate because Congress has failed to do it’s job of protecting this nation. If Congress won’t secure our borders, Stewart demanded that it provide localities such as Prince William County with the authority it needs to do the job that the federal government is either unwilling, or unable to do. It was a strong statement, and notorious open-borders advocates on the subcommittee such as Rep Maxine Waters didn’t even try to challenge Corey Stewart’s message.
Of course in an election year Democrat Sharon Pandak has to weigh in on this issue, which she did in the Manassas Journal-Messenger today. She whines that we’ve waited too long, when the county board has long been asking for federal action, even going as far to send the federal government a bill for the costs of providing services to illegal aliens. Then she lays out this whopper, where she says she will fix the problem — by doing nothing.
Pandak said the county must “confront” illegal immigration.
“I will do all that I can to support our public safety personnel and to keep our communities safe. We must stop gang violence. I will not, however, sacrifice our public safety trying to solve an immigration issue which the federal government created or by letting the Congress continue to ignore the burden that it has shifted to county citizens by its utter failure to meet its responsibilities,” Pandak said.
How typical of the illegal alien lobby.
Meanwhile, Corey Stewart is demanding congress provide three things: Authority for law enforcement to detain suspected illegal aliens solely for violations of federal immigration law, authority to impose fines and penalties on those who employ illegal aliens, and authority to sanction those landlords who rent or otherwise provide shelter to illegal aliens. If the three-quarters of a million state and local law enforcement personnel in this country and had unambiguous powers to do these three things, it could well cause at least half of the illegal aliens in this country to repatriate themselves back to their home countries voluntarily.
If you’ve got a problem with ants, the first thing you do is put away the sugar bowl. Corey Stewart’s demands go a long way towards making that happen, and congress, if they’ve got any sense at all, should seriously consider what Prince William County is asking for.
UPDATE: Virtucon has a great follow-up:
It is utterly laughable that Pandak blames Corey for not marching up to Capitol Hill sooner to bring this to the attention of Congress. PWC has done a number of things to bring this to the attention of the federal government, including sending them a bill. And as far as this issue being “bitterly divisive locally” — well, given that calls in support of the county resolution have been running 9-1 in favor of it, you just know the kind of crowd that Pandak has been hanging out with if she has the impression that there is any sort of close division of opinion on this. About the only people who think that way are the illegal alien apologists in the county. Of course, they would be the same people that make up Pandak’s tiny base of core supporters as well.

Sharon Pandak and the illegal alien apologists . . . Perfect together!
Greg:
Sharon’s statement looks an awful lot like, in fact, it could have been blocked and copied from, dare I say - Representative Frank Wolf’s website.
Politicians who want to avoid this issue abound in both parties. We need to get rid of them regardless of party affiliation.

It is breathtaking in the extreme that the President of Mexico, Calderon can say, “I have said that Mexico does not stop at its border, that wherever there is a Mexican, there is Mexico,” and our politicians do nothing. The sovereignty of this nation is fast disappearing and no one will do anything. The next President must focus on these two issues - Combating Terrorism and the cessation of Illegal Immigration.
I salute Prince William County and all those therein who are standing forward in combating this infringment on our right to control our borders.

Prince William County in Virginia was trying to defend itself and its legal inhabitants against the massive influx of illegal aliens pouring into the county. A migration that is putting a tremendous strain on the infrastructure of the county while substantially raising the crime rate.
Toward that end, the county logically decided that the best way to combat this invasion by illegal aliens was to simply enforce the laws. Mistake. At least as far as the illegal aliens, their left-wing lawyers, and the left-leaning Washington Post are concerned. The illegal aliens and their lawyers, with a huge public relations assist from the Washington Post, basically decided to declare war on the county in response.
Unidentified marchers laugh during an immigration rally in Los Angeles May 17, 2007. The rally was held as a response to the Los Angeles Police Department’s action at a May 1st rally, when they used force to disperse the crowd. A deal between leading senators would grant millions of undocumented immigrants lawful status, but other reform advocates warned any celebration was premature. Six weeks after writing my first column on this subject, the situation has gone from bad to worse for the law-abiding citizens of Prince William County. In late July, thousands of illegal aliens and their supporters met in Prince William County to declare that they would punish the county for daring to enforce it laws by boycotting non-immigrant businesses, striking against those innocent owners and suing the county into bankruptcy.
Earlier this week, as many as seven thousand illegal aliens and their pro-law breaking supporters – including Hispanic Priests – converged once again at the seat of the Prince William County government to intensity their militancy as they sought to intimidate the Prince William board and the legal citizens of the county. It should be noted that this threatening protest was led by a group that calls itself “Mexicans Without Borders.” An organization headed-up by an individual who, it has been reported, draws his inspiration from the violent Marxist Zapatista Army of National Liberation. Pure and simple, these militants intend to take the county down and then take their guerilla campaign to the next city or county that has the temerity to try and enforce the laws of the United States.
For the majority of the citizens of Prince William County, as well as the vast majority of the citizens of our nation, this thuggish attack from within represents a direct threat to our very sovereignty. We are a nation with borders and it is the job of our federal government to enforce those borders, and while doing so, ensure the national security of our country.
Horrifyingly, commonsense and the ultimately suicidal self-interests of many or our politicians dictates that as 500,000 illegal aliens per year cross into our country unimpeded, these elected officials will shamelessly grovel for their approval to stay in office. To get such approval, they will need to ignore border security and push various amnesty plans. The end result of such behavior will not only hasten the end of our sovereignty, but will put our nation at a much greater risk of terrorist attack.
Why? For confirmation, one need look no further than last year’s frightening report titled “Line in the Sand: Confronting the Threat at the Southwest Border,” released by the House Committee on Homeland Security. Have not heard of it? That’s because the majority of our politicians and media chose to ignore it.
Little wonder. Chief among this report’s findings were that terrorists from Hezbollah and other Islamic organizations have and continue to enter our country through our southern flank. Yes, you read that right. Members of Hezbollah – an organization considered more dangerous than Al Qaida – have already entered our nation thru. Mexico!
The report further stated that the U.S. Military and intelligence officials believe that Venezuela – at the direction of dictator Hugo Chavez – is emerging as a hub of terrorism in the Western Hemisphere. That the Chavez government is teaching Islamists how to speak Spanish, supplying them with Venezuelan identity cards, and facilitating their illegal entry into the United States.
What more proof do these irresponsible politicians, lawyers, and members of the media need? Are they waiting for a mushroom cloud to appear over an American city before they will admit that by not locking down our borders and controlling illegal immigration, we are putting ourselves at tremendous risk.

Point blank. If you are an American business that willingly employs illegal aliens, you are putting us all at risk. If you are the mayor or city council of a sanctuary city, you are putting us all at risk. Should the unthinkable happen, you will bear much of the responsibility.
Combative, illegal aliens have established a beachhead in Prince William County, Virginia. Millions of illegal aliens and their supporters around the nation are closely following this confrontation. Should the militant illegal aliens prevail in Prince William county, the others around the nation will be emboldened to try the same.
Should this happen, our borders will grow weaker and more terrorists will enter our nation. The clock is ticking.
Good for Corey Stewart!
And The Advocator is right - the follow up to comments from Corey Stewart is to vote out the dip sticks in congress who refuse to address the issue - regardless of party.
And Frank Wolf is one of the dip sticks who has to go.
Stewart’s leader “W” could seal the borders tomorrow if he wanted to but he doesn’t want to, the illegals keep wages/inflation low and provide a labor pool for the construction and agriculture conglomerates. So Corey is being his usual sound bite blathering self at election time.
Way to go Corey!!!
I think Corey Stewart is great! It sure is nice to have the Chairman of the BOCS go to bat for his constituents on Capital Hill. Thank you Corey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as Pandak’s response, she definetly has a talent for saying a whole lot of nothing. I’ve heard her at BOCS meetings and sometimes I wonder if she realizes what she says makes no sense.
Fairfax resident,
I think you should check Frank Wolf’s voting record before you claim something that is not true. He is one of the few representitives that post it.
He has always voted “against” illegal immigration.
I guess this is why Stewart and others so actively backed this year’s immigration reform legislation. It belabors the obvious to say the federal government has failed to deal with this issue effectively. That’s hardly a bold stance. But those who feel that way (virtually everyone, I would think) have had an obligation for some time to support strong federal measures to get this right. Virtually all the local stuff is side-show and flim-flam designed to patch up some rather flimsy local political fortunes, primarily on my side of the aisle. The real game is in Congress. When we finally had a chance at national legislation this past summer, virtually everyone who is bellowing now about absence of federal action, opposed the feds taking action. (I know, I know - a lot of you didn’t like the part about getting the people who are here already onto the record books - but, other than mass deportation of the whole lot of them, I didn’t hear many bright ideas about how to make that legislation work.)
Read this morning’s Washington Times (9/8/07) page A3. Maybe they are finally listening.
Stewart has been a total failure to solve any of the transportation problems so he has to create a different crisis, Since Covington proposed the no more rezoning resolution, which Stewart was so strong to support, passed last fall the only rezoning that has been impacted was that of an Africian American who wanted to build 21 units to be build on his family’s property. He had to reduce the number of units and also had to sell one of the units at 1/3 off the normal sales price for ” affordiable housing”. A white man in Stewart back yard got all of his 20 units approved at the same time and only had to pay $225.00 per unit for ” Affordable housing”. Stewart is too good to have affordable housing in his back yard but the biggots of our PWC BOS are alive and well.
Regarding Jay’s quotation from the President of Mexico: wasn’t that the same attitude that Hitler used to justify anschluss and German expansionism? Nice, self-serving formula.
Dear Bob,
Please put your politics aside for a moment…we DO have a crisis here, believe it or not!!! Take off the “D” for a moment, accept reality, admit that it must be fixed, and get on board before it’s too late!
Even a “D” ought to be able to see THAT!!!
Dear freedom,
If you knew anything about the history of Virginia politics we use to be a place where the person not the political party they belonged to was what got them elected. We elected Republicans years ago when this was a so called Democratic political stronghold. The real crisis is that in the immgrant politicans the likes of Frederick, Stewart, Stirrup and May we have new comers who moved into PWC and now think that no one else has the same right. They do not want their children to live here so why do they care about what happens? I have no use nor will I tolerate anyone who says my children or grandchilden should not be allowed to live in PWC. Having lived in N Va for over 60 years and never once complained about someone moving in I have no use for intollerance or a” I am better then you are” attitude. Those who break the law such as illegal immigrants can be stopped very easily but when the rights of all Americans are taken away such as what Frederick and Stewart want to do it is a much greater problem. Freedom is not discrimination or that someone is better then another it is the right of all people to be treated the same and have the same rights as all others. Stewart believes that what ever the majority of the people want is what the law is. That is a lynch mob mentality for the person being hung is always in the minority but that does not make lynching legal.
Bob Willis, I can hardly make sense of what you’re saying, so I’m certainly not going to try and discuss issues with you.
freedom
if you can not even copy a name correctly then why should you be expected to understand anything. As to discussing issues you would have to know something of facts not just wild opinions.
