If You Can’t Say Anything, Just Call Them Racists

By Greg L | 7 September 2007 | Illegal Aliens, Virginia Politics | 13 Comments

House of Delegates Speaker William Howell observes, as reported in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, that those moving into Virginia aren’t necessarily GOP voters, a trend observed for years in Northern Virginia and about as remarkable a statement as observing that Maryland tends to vote for Democrats. So what does the far left do? They try to equate that with ethnic bias.  If they actually bothered to read the article, instead of twist it into what they wish it said, they might have seen a pretty straightforward commentary on this pretty mundane piece of conventional wisdom:

The state’s fast-changing population, particularly in Northern Virginia, has fueled a Democratic ascendancy since 2001. Republicans have attempted to stop it, in part, by spotlighting social, financial and law-enforcement problems attributed to illegal immigration.

Why is it that those who profess to be most concerned about racial and ethnic bias feel compelled to inject racial and ethnic identity politics into every statement made by those they disagree with?  Is the only way that the far left can engage in policy debates regarding the effect of large numbers of illegal aliens in our communities, and the steps we can take to mitigate those effects to start smearing everyone as a racist?  It sure looks that way.  Unfortunately, that’s hardly surprising.

As far as I can tell, the only suggestion the Raising Kaine folks have offered as a potential solution to this problem is to have the federal government provide amnesty to all illegal aliens, and fine employers for hiring those that haven’t taken advantage of their amnesty proposals.  Fining employers who hire illegal aliens is a good idea, but talking about doing that at the state and local level is nothing but a smokescreen.  Current federal law makes it extremely difficult for states and localities to effectively punish employers, and those promoting this idea are fully aware of this, so really what they’re proposing is a solution they know won’t work when it comes to drafting legislation, at which point they can throw up their hands in defeat and say it’s a federal problem.  How convenient.
What they’re not recognizing is that the largest employer of illegal aliens in the Commonwealth is likely the government of Virginia.  Would Virginia supposedly start assessing and collecting fines on itself?  Although they could propose that all state employees are screened with the E-Verify system, and that all state contractors should do the same as a condition of their contract, I’ve never seen a proposal from the far-left, or even Democrats for that matter, to do that.  It wouldn’t require legislative action, and the Governor could issue an executive order to this effect tomorrow, just as he could implement the Section 287(g) Program, and similarly has not.  Can’t we have a rational discussion of these potential initiatives without veering off into the swamp of identity politics?

No, it’s easier to just call everyone racists rather than discuss very workable proposals that could provide significant and immediate positive results for Virginia.  I’m starting to believe that the far left is simply committed to perpetuating this problem.

Why don’t we add another petition to the 287g asking Kaine to sign an executive order requiring all state contractors to use the E-verify system?

Of course the far left is committed to perpetuating this problem, and every other problem our country faces. The far left, and the near left, through its idocy and alignment with the ultra-left, hates this country and everything it stands for. Far lefties are losers who cannot make it without taking from those of us who can earn our own way. Consequently, they need an all powerful government and confiscatory taxes to fund every cockamamie social program they can think of, after taking their administrative cut. Illegal aliens fit nicely into their scheme. It’s another permanent underclass of victims that need more social programs, thus more taxes, thus more control over those of us who pay the bills and try to make our way through life by following the rules, which is becoming harder and harder these days. If the far left ran out of problems, there’d be no reason to assert control over the lives (and incomes), of bona fide, tax paying ‘Murricans.

Um, Advocator, it would be nice if the facts bore our your fantasy, but the largest growths in government and in government spending have actually occurred under Republican administrations. Since WWII, the average increase in US National Debt under Democrats was 3.2%. Under Republican Presidents it’s a whopping 9.7%. In the last 25 years (Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush), for every $1 in debt added under a Democrat, $2.53 has been added by a Republican President.

Under Clinton, the actual size of the Federal government shrank (reversing the trend toward double-digit growth under Reagan and GHW Bush). Under GW Bush, government has again gotten bigger. Nixon created the EPA and OSHA. GW Bush created the monstrosity with call the Department of Homeland Security. Reagan pledged to eliminate the Department of Education, the Department of Energy, the BATF, and Selective Service. All grew larger during his terms in office.

It was Carter who began deregulating business and Clinton who worked out free trade agreements.

It was Reagan who started the “War on Drugs,” putting the government further into our business, and it is typically Republicans that want to legislate personal reproductive rights. It was GHW Bush who signed the Americans with Disabilities Act into law. It is GHW Bush who is tapping your phones without a warrant and undermining the due process of law by creating a classification called “illegal combatant” (which he even tried to apply to US citizens).

So if you want to talk about who is spending your dough (whether they’re taking it our of your pockets right now or putting the burden on your kids and grandkids) on “cockamamie social programs” and who is creating the “all powerful government” better start looking in the mirror, my friend. Me thinks the pot is calling the kettle black. Either that or the darkness under that rock has finally gotten to you.

Oh, and for the record, I believe that Kaine should implement the section 287(g) program and that all state and local government employees as well as employees of state contractors should be screened (for that matter, any Federal contractors should have the same burden).

Howell’s comments were definitely and deliberately misinterpreted. He’s talking about American citizens moving from Cleveland to Fairfax not illegal aliens.

However, Turn PW Blue has made some good points and used some facts to boot.

    So, here’s the real skinny:

Howell knows the republicans are going to get thir butts kicked in November. He knows it’s because they’ve done a lousy job of running the state. He also knows that President Bubba has done a lousy job of running the country and some of that will “rub off” on Republican candidates for stae office this November.

However, Howell is a slimy state politician so he can’t just admit that his party is going to lose because the voters want them out. No, no… Instead, he’s trying to pre-excuse the losses on some demographic fiction about new arrivals into Northern Virginia. First, Northern Virginia has a minority of state’s population. It can only determine a minority of the state races. Second, newcomers to NOVA were as much a fact of life when the Republicans ascended to power as they are now that the Republicans are going to lose that power. Finally, the newcomers come from all over the US including places like Utah which are much more conservative than Virginia. They are not universally Democratic or liberal.

Instead, Howlin’ Howell II wants you to believe that Republican losses this November will be “becuz of all them damn Yankees movin’ into Northern Virginia with their liberal ideas”.

The Republicans will lose this November because the voters are sick of them, their poor record of governance and their endless lies and double talk. They will not lose because hoardes of liberal New Yorkers have moved to Northern Virginia.

Unfortunately, the old school Democrats running against the old school Republicans will be no better for the Commonwealth. But voters want a change and they will increasingly vote for Democrats.

For the record - I am a life-long Republican and a life-long resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Why spend time worrying about what the left thinks or says? We got a job to do.

We have to worry about what the left says and counter their whining about racism, because that whining has put the country into a political downspiral of whining seperatist GROUPs that have aligned their politics along privileged RACIAL, ETHNIC, RELIGIOUS, and GENDER lines. This has to be stopped before we disintegrate this country into major civil unrest like we went though in the 1960s. Each of these groups aligns along ILLEGAL racial, ethnic, religious, and gender lines and then screams “racists and discrimmination, and give me special priviliges, because I’m different” at the one group left over that doesn’t do that. That whining and Group advocacy will eventually DIVIDE and DESTROY the nation. We need to hold them accountable to the law and the constitution, and that is an issue of “legal” and “illegal” behavior. We need to prohibit them from aligning along racial, ethnic, religious and gender lines, naming their GROUPS racial, ethnic, gender and religious group names, giving priviliges, entertainment and new priority, special work privileges and “unequal opportunities” and hosting politically active talk shows and media that cater to audiences along their Racial, Ethnic, Gender and Religious group lines. The ultimate consequences of continuing to allow this is a DIVIDED and conflict ridden nation, and unfair legal practice, business practice and social structure. The Democrats don’t get this because they still act as if they are a MINORITY oppressed. The Republican’s biggest problem is that their leaders have “Lie’d too much to the American Public, certain they will not get caught” and been too “Arrogant” in dealing fairly with the rest of the world. Everyone hates us because we are doing things in their countries, we would never do in ours, and we do not treat them as “equals” or in “respectful” ways. Eventually peace only comes with respect and a willingness to heal differences, and treat nations with a common concept of “WE are all the SAME, so lets build trust and lawfullness. The quickest way to do that is to jail or kill leaders that start or perpetuate wars on humanity. Quickly and cleanly, and then get the Heck out of people’s internal sovereign business so they can heal and do it their own way. You cannot win a war of nationalism or national culture, until GROUPS are made illegal, and leaders who lead ethnic, racial, religious, or gender groups to WAR are removed swiftly. No one likes a country that invades and then trashes the place with “self-interest only, corporate big business psychotic behavior, that has no personal loss to the leaders who play a chess game in protected and secure offices” HONOR the Soldiers, not the leaders of those soldiers. We need a CENTRIST leader that will throw out the radical Democrat left (the next leadership) and the radical Republican right (the current leadership), and start doing what is best for EVERYONE, not just thier fanatical LEFT or RIGHT following. If I see that candidate emerge I will vote for that person, and so should the REST of you. Sometimes I wonder if AL GORE might be that person.

    Michael,
It seems that you defined the term “politically correct”.
I for one just try and live by TRUTH. I wonder what happened to America, that was once, one nation under God? I was always turned OFF by politics because they always seem to have the HIDDEN agenda.
MY point as ILL explained it may be, is WHAT HAPPENED TO AMERICA, our morals, our God and our country? Right and wrong?

This is pretty funny. Just this week, both the Washington Times and the COMPOST had articles about the slipping population of blacks in Washington DC, and how if that the slide continues DC might not be a majority black City by 2015. The article mentioned that some folks are concerned that blacks may loose power, and gosh forbid, a white mayor may one day be elected. So far I have not seen any outrage over the fact there are blacks who seem to think DC is their City, and should remain a majority black City.

Now compare the situation to Prince William County. Many defenders of illegals say most of the outrage is not about law breakers, but about the changing face of the County.

    Michael,

I too would like to see a centrist candidate for president. Right now, the closest you get to a centrist is Hillary or Rudi. Tell me it isn’t true. Talk about going to the polls, holding your nose and voting!

I’m not sure who I’m going to vote for,

I want someone tough on illegal immigration, someone who I will actually believe. However I’m also for stem cell research and other thing s that the far right does not like. It’s going to be tough this year for me to vote for the one candidate that addresses all the issues I think are important.

    Josh
