Dem Leadership Embraces The Illegal Alien Lobby

By Greg L | 10 September 2007 | Illegal Aliens, Virginia Politics | 24 Comments

The battle lines between Republicans and Democrats in the General Assembly have just been established with House Democratic Leader Ward Armstrong and House Caucus Chairman Brian Moran firmly entrenching themselves on the side of the illegal alien lobby in Virginia. This is utterly unreal. From the Shad Plank:

According to the Dems, Howell needs to be scolded for suggesting that the state’s newest residents may not embrace “the shared values we have in Virginia.” Democrats appear to be using that statement to make a larger point about the expected flood of legislation aimed at curbing and punishing illegal immigration.

Armstrong and Moran say the GOP has an “immigrant-bashing agenda for the legislative session that will begin in January.”

Who’s writing this stuff, Nancy Lyall of Mexicans Without Borders? Do the Democrats really want to ensure that Virginia’s publicly-supported colleges and universities provide education for people who are in our country in defiance of our laws? Do they really want to release criminal illegal aliens back into our communities at the end of their incarceration rather than deport them? Do they actually believe that Virginia will be better off if we allow Virginia businesses that have been penalized by the federal government for hiring illegal aliens to retain their business licenses?

I had always believed that there were plenty of Democrats out there who supported responsible measures that would reduce the number of illegal aliens who are residing in Virginia. Democrats have voted for many of these measures in the past. With the House Democratic leadership staking out a position to defend the interests of illegal aliens over the citizens of Virginia, either the Democratic Caucus will severely fracture, or their policy positions will utterly doom any chances they think they have of obtaining majorities in either chamber of the General Assembly.

This is insane.

UPDATE: And for good measure, Raising Kaine joins in the insanity.

UPDATE 2: Riley joins in with his take in “VA Dem Pols Commit Mass Political Suicide“:

The battle lines are drawn for November’s elections. Republicans have taken the side of U.S. citizens and legal immigrants who played by the rules. Democrats have taken the side of lawlessness and the illegal alien apologists. In other words, in the current environment, Virginia Democrat politicians have just committed mass political suicide on a scale akin to the Heaven’s Gate cult.

They are trying to pander and appeal to their base: The kook fringe lefties who refuse to differentiate between Immigrants, and Illegal Aliens. They, like the rest of the ultra-liberal left, MSF, WWC and the Manassas Journal Messenger continue to call efforts to curb ILLEGAL ALIENS “anti immigrant”.

    The lines are drawn.

    The battle is joined.

    Let’s get ready to RUMBLE!

The Morans are so far left they go off the dial. Armstrong must think that illegals can vote. Well it just goes to show you that they care more about foreign nationals who have invaded our country than the citizens. Let us remember their statements tomorrow on the anniversary of 9/11.

You said it and it can be forged, next!?! ……

IT is NEVER ending. I would LOVE to have the time to sit on my A** and think of ways to break through the system- NOT that I WOUlD. I would just love the TIME to do so.

I am just beyond bent at this point. I keep getting up for work only for this or that to happen and think that hey, because I do the right thing and a couple of months ago the decision I made, was good - for this reason that I invest in the future- only to find out that the criminals have already destroyed me when I have begun.

I am not referring to a couple of months ago for a specific reason, just saying that no matter what we do, what we overcome, we can’t seem to make the RIGHT decisions by doing RIGHT, because once you do- it was already too late. You can’t keep up. I will and what keeps us going is doing the RIGHT thing ….BUT FOR WHAT??????????????????? I feel that this is the defenition of insanity for all the RIGHT reasons: go to work, abide by the law, love and respect…..Is there anyone out there that feels this way? I am beyond words.

Immigration, Cultural Center Get Spotlight at County Board
    by BRIAN TROMPETER, Staff Writer
(Created: Monday, September 10, 2007 3:38 PM EDT)

Arlington County residents questioned County Board members about immigration policies, a proposed cultural arts center and the county’s traffic-calming plan during the public-comment period of the board’s meeting on Sept. 8.

Arlington resident Robert Atkins questioned a County Board member’s assertion earlier this summer that 99.9 percent of immigrants are not criminals. Atkins said statistics show 5 percent of illegal immigrants in Arlington in 2006 ended up in the county jail.

“The new Arlington Way — 2-percent accuracy is adequate for governing,” he said of the county’s statistics. “Even I expected better from this board. If you’re going to use percentages on public topics, let’s have accurate numbers so we can have a real discussion, not something that will fit on a bumper sticker.”

Arlington resident John Antonelli said people who live in Arlington’s subsidized housing should have to prove they are legal residents. People who are arrested by local law-enforcement agencies and are shown to be illegal aliens must be detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), he said.

Antonelli criticized the county’s day-labor centers, which he said allow illegal aliens to make money without paying taxes. This arrangement results in less-than-living wages and worker exploitation by companies, which do not pay Social Security taxes for those employees or enforce workplace-safety regulations, he said.

“For those who wish to dismiss me as a racist, let me assure you that if a bunch of Swedes singing ‘Dancing Queen’ came over here illegally, they need to be deported,” Antonelli said.

Arlington County Republican Committee Chairman Rafael Bejar said county police officers should be required, rather than just encouraged, to contact federal ICE authorities about the immigration status of people they reasonably suspect, during investigation or arrest, of being in the country illegally.

Arlington County Manager Ron Carlee said police review suspects’ immigration status in cases of serious crime, but that he would not second-guess the methods and judgment of the police chief.

County Board member Barbara Favola urged critics of the county’s immigration policies not to engage in name-calling or jump to conclusions without solid evidence.

“I do want to caution Arlington to remain civil, open-minded and try to find out the facts before we proceed down a path on making statements or leading to judgments,” she said.

I have to share this with all of you. If it wasn’t so sick it would be funny.

“Immediate moratorium on raids and deportations!

Legalization Now! No fifteen-year wait for the Green Card!

Elvira Areallano, our national symbol of defiance, of rebellion, of civil rights, of equality, of dignity - was torn from her son Saulito on August 26th. In violation of all international norms she was deported in record time and left alone at the border of Tijuana. From there, again, she called on our immigrant communities and the movement to organize the next battle - a national economic boycott. We in Los Angeles, the bedrock of the immigrant rights movement, will wage a “no spending of immigrant money,” including no remesas to Mexico and all our countries!

We will hold a national day of prayer and reflection and send a national delegation of immigrant rights activists, faith leaders, students and community leaders to meet with key congressional leaders in Washington, DC.”

The only time we are not asked for papers is when they want our money!”

This “alignment” of democrats behind supporters for “illegal” immigration, just keeps proving my point that the 1970’s and 1980’s political movements for minority discrimmination activists, have moved way beyond stopping discrimmination. The real agenda of many of these advocating minority groups and the radical activists that supported them, didn’t ever intend to just stop there. They have always wanted, and are still trying to obtain racial, ethnic, gender and religious superiority. In their minds they can’t see that the concepts they are using to now support minority privilege are just as wrong and unconstitutional as the hatred they generated for majority groups oppression as 1960s projected superiority. The democrats are representing all these group aligned racial, ethnic, gender and religious groups now, each advocating for their own special rights, priviliges, benefits and desire for superiority over other ethnic, racial, religious and gender groups. You have only to listen to the rhetoric these groups spout about why they support these Group rights and not individual rights to know what thier real hidden political agenda is. They have penetrated mainstream politics and are trying their absolute best to oppress everyone else to gain the superior legal and social position of superiority. You see this in every media forum align along these racial, ethnic, gender and religious group lines. The democrats are composed of them. The democrate if they have their way WILL Divide and Destroy the unity and stability of the Nation. If people are smart and wise they will see the danger and risk in supporting these candidates, and vote against them.

Michael: Didn’t you know that it’s only racism if the special rights are for white folks? This phenomenon of libs giving away the keys to the kingdom is called white guilt. Pick your sides people because the endgame is afoot. You are either for community and laws or you are for anarchy and lawlessness. There is no middle ground in the immigration debate. Don’t let libs tell you there has to be a compromise; a middle ground if you will. Compromise and middle ground are just other words for amnesty. I am just about angry enough over this issue to riot, and I know many millions of my fellow Americans are right there with me. Liberals make me sick. Traitors and commies, all.

Dave B. Although I know why you are upset, you seem to slip into letting it take over your emotions. IMHO you should take an higher road, and focus only on the legal, financial and individual rights issue, like Martin Luther King did. He was trying to right a wrong done to individuals. I doubt he ethically supported the Black Panther militant groups or riots, knowing that would lead to civil disaster, potentially civil war and extreme hatred between racial and ethnic groups. His solution was not to riot, but to focus on the “individual rights” issue of every human being and discuss the ethics of it. Rather than take sides along racial, ethnic, gender, and religious group lines he debated that all people deserved respect, fairness under the law, and equal application of the law, not seperate application of the law based on what group you belong to. I think with today’s group alignment ignorance and danger, Martin Luther would have chosen to be a moderate Republican, against group privilige, and for following the law. It is my belief he would have seen “illegal” immigration as “illegal” and damaging to ALL citizens of the nation regardless of race, gender, religion and ethnic group and would advocate for enforcing the law.

Really? That’s an interesting conclusion on your part given that MLK Jr. advocated for civil disobedience and disregard for the law when said laws were clearly intended to deny “individual rights” to one group over another. MLK Jr advocated for individual human rights for EVERYONE, regardless of citizenship or country of origin.

He applauded the efforts of Rosa Parks (who intentionally defied the law to prove a point) and lunch-counter sit-ins as a means of justifiable civil disobedience. MLK Jr, quite plainly and obviously, was not a believer in “illegal is illegal.”

In fact, the very premise of his movement was that civil disobedience and defiance of the law was the most appropriate course of action to combat laws that are unjust.

If that is true, then my opinion of him will diminish significantly, although he accomplished a great thing. It is now imperative more than ever we as a nation hold to the ideals of individual rights, equal treatment under the law, and a peaceful and civil discourse to removing group special interest and supremacy behavior aligned along racial, ethnic, religious and gender group lines. If we do not do this, then all that was promised and accepted by the 1960 civil rights acts is a big fat lie, and we will digress into warring and hating factions like every other nation that doesn’t get it. I would not like to see racial groups forming just to protect their priviliged interests from oppression by others or more political power. If everyone does not do this, those who were lied to and bought into it will revert to protecting only themselves from it and looking after only their own interests again, politically and economically as a majority. I think the nation would be very damaged by that, so all ethnic, racial, religious, and gender advocacy needs to stop and be declared “illegal” for that very reason.

That course of civil disobedience is a wrong one in this case, to change a law to benefit only one ethnic, racial, religious or gender group, when applied were no injustice exists, Thiat belief and discourse will simply result in civil disobedience for group self interest sake, and that is the current trend. I don’t by the argument that “illegal” is an injustice, as it applies to all races, religions, genders, and ethnic groups equally. This was not the case of the 1960s laws applied to minority groups and another set of laws applied to majority groups. This is why your argument claiming you are just when you only advocate for privileges for your ethnic group only and advocated for laws and priviliges for your ethnic group only, violate the US constitution, and are mis-conceptualized only for your own self-interest & benefit. If you do not understand the difference between 1960 laws and laws now, All our laws are unjust for the same reason and the 14th amendment is worthless.

If you read any of my posts you will see I consistenly demand that we pay attention only to individual rights and not group rights, and that I clearly advocate that these individual rights be applied to EVERYONE and not based on what race, gender, religious group or ethnic group you belong to regardless of citizenship or country or origin. Your argument on the other hand twists this and clearly tries to advocate and support that racial and ethnic groups should take the course of civil disobedience, and that somehow this course is taking care of EVERYONE equally. It is not. It is taking care only of the ethnic, racial, religious or gender group you have aligned with and advocated for, and that is why your position, no matter how you twist it otherwise is wrong, “illegal” and unconstitutional.

It looks like Martin Luther King has been reinvented.

MLK’s work was the obtain civil rights for American Blacks. He took his philosophy of passive resistance from Christ and the writings of Thoreau and Ghandi.

I would not go so far as to say he wasn’t concerned with individual rights but his main mission was for American Blacks as a group.
