Who Is Janet Oleszek?

Guest Post By Alex P. Keaton

Janet Oleszek has been vague about where she stands on the issues, to say the least, leaving Fairfax voters wondering, “Who is this lady, and what is she going to do that benefits Fairfax?”
Janet has been on the school board since 2003.  After half of her term she decided to run for House of Delegates in 2005, being beaten badly by David Bulova.  Two years later she is running for State Senate.  So yes you read that right, she didn’t even finish one term before deciding to run for two higher offices.  How long will she serve in the State Senate before she decides she is ready for U.S. Congress?

So what does Janet think is important for Fairfax? Well according to her website, “But as Janet learned in her involvement, schools do not stand alone as an issue of concern in the public. The problems of school crowding and large class sizes have the same root causes as our problems with transportation and the region’s low environmental rating; poor choices involving public expenditures. Janet will be a leader in the General Assembly to reprioritize the issues of central importance to Northern Virginia; education, transportation, and public safety. After all, Northern Virginia is the engine that drives growth across the state, and it’s our responsibility to keep it that way.”

More generally though, something about Janet frightens me.  She is deeply tied in with the extreme liberals, or the Howard Dean faction of the Democratic Party.  Janet is deeply tied in with a group called The Renegades, which are the leftovers of the Jim Webb campaign.  This group has blasted Chairman Connolly for working to reduce the property tax rate in Fairfax County, as they feel that money should have been available Fairfax families money should have been available for the government.

Senator Cuccinelli, in his last Cuccinelli Compass, included the Norman Thomas quote,

“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism,” Thomas predicted. “But under the name of ‘liberalism,’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program until America will one day be a Socialist nation without knowing how it happened.”

These socialists, with their Dick Saslaw mindset of “You can’t give me Enough Money,” want to tell us how to live our lives.  The thought of a socialist uprising scares me.  I want to decide what to do with my money.  It is after all my money.

Janet, since you were opposed to Chairman Connolly’s property tax reduction plan, what do you propose we do about the skyrocketing costs of home ownership in Fairfax?  Because it seems to me you and your socialist buddies, want to take the entire paycheck of hard working Fairfax families and redistribute it, leaving us unable to pay our mortgage.

UNTIL SHE IS READY TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION, OR ANY OTHER REGARDING TAXES, SHE DOESN’T DESERVE TO BE CONSIDERED AS A LEGITIMATE CANDIDATE!

Yes. She needs to answer specific questions with specific answers.

    Needs editing for clarification.

Oleszek will win on the blanket of vagueness.

“UNTIL SHE IS READY TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION, OR ANY OTHER REGARDING TAXES, SHE DOESN’T DESERVE TO BE CONSIDERED AS A LEGITIMATE CANDIDATE!”

Well, I guess that means NO Democrat is a legitimate candidate as raising taxes to them is, well, understood and accepted as norm. How quick they say, “Take your hands off of my body” (concerning abortion), yet they are WAY too comfortable with keeping THEIR hands in OUR wallets!!!

It appears to me that good old Janet is taking a page out of the Obama/Hillary playbook (first term Senators thinking they are ready to be President). Ken should give her the “spanking” she deserves.

    es_la_le,

I apologize for my typo. I guess I was editing in my head while I was writing. What I meant was that this group seems to think that they should have unlimited access to our money with no questioning. Call me crazy, but I think I am more qualified to make a decision about what is important to me, instead of some politician making that decision.

I want to thank BVBL for allowing me to post this here. I’ll still be posting some on NLS as well, but positive responses instead of the attacks by the lefties is a nice change.

John, with Janet it is honestly scarier than her thinking it’s ok to raise taxes. She flat out ignores the question. Call me a control freak but not knowing what somebody is thinking, scares the heck out of me. Especially when they are going to Richmond to make decisions on my behalf.

BL - both are bad, which is why Janet CANNOT win any more than the terrorist supporter in the 51st.

“APK” - she is not doing anything different than most dem politicians. You know how you can tell if an election is coming up? A Democrat won’t talk about raising taxes. You know how you can tell when they are safe in their position…they raise them!!!

Go to her and ask her, “What is your position on a woman’s right to chose, capital punishment, and revenue adjustment” then ask her on another day her positions on abortion, the death penalty, and taxes, and see if you get different answers.

Her comment concerning “large class sizes” is interesting. If you do the math using the numbers from the Fairfax School system for number of students and number of teachers, one gets a pupil to teacher ratio of about 19.

Janet LOVES taxes. She has referred to tax money as “our money” meaning it belongs to the politicians, not the people. There is NO tax Janet doesn’t embrace.

Re: large class size. According the FCPS budget, we have 22,000 professionals with 13,000 of them classified as teachers and 163,000 students. Do the math. Class sizes should average 13. Ask ANY parent if their child has ever been in a class of that size. The reality is, we have about half that number of teachers, 7,500. That number includes anyone who ever stands in front of students, full time and part time. The others are called teachers but they are various support services, including those who test hearing and social workers. We have twice as many administrators as teachers. Two administrators for every teacher in the system.

Thanks Janet! Our kids are in huge classes, often over 30 students, while you increased the number of administrators. Last year, school population decreased by 300 students. You added 343 administrators. Thanks Janet! School population went down again this year, by 500+, can’t wait to see how many additional administrators we hired!

I just wonder what can we get an accurate number on these days? I live in PWC, I see questionable numbers here too, with reagards to class size. I think the only way to know the true class, is ask your child how many students are in each of their classes. I would venture to say that the average class size is larger than average we might be led to believe. We must remember, there are lots of speciality classes being taught in our pulbic schools(FX and PW), and those classes might have no more than 10 kids per class. Small classes for all these programs will definately bring the overall class size average down.
