Jeanette Rishell Starts Out Negative
By Greg L | 15 September 2007 | Jeanette Rishell, 50th HOD District | 26 Comments

So much for complaining about negative campaigning, as she did last cycle. Jeanette “Moonfruit” Rishell’s first mail piece of the election season is a completely bogus attack on Jackson Miller where she actually claims that he’s “pretend[ing] to care about illegal immigration” but doing nothing. This is pretty much what she’s been saying to people when she goes door knocking, so perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising to see this show up in print. It’s still pretty stunning.
So what’s Jackson Miller saying? He’s talking about his record, and his candidacy.

So let’s take a look at these two different takes on Jackson Miller’s first year in the General Assembly for a moment. Did he introduce some good legislation? You bet. Did he get any of his bills passed in the House of Delegates? You bet, and most of them dealt with illegal immigration, just as he promised he’d do when he was running for Delegate last election. Here’s a look at some of what Jackson Miller sponsored:
- HB2930, to revoke the business license of any business that knowingly hires illegal aliens (incorporated into HB3130, passed House 71-28)
- HB2931, to require that local officials cooperate with federal officials regarding illegal aliens (left in committee)
- HB2935, to deny in-state tuition rates at public universities (incorporated into HB 2623, passed House 74-23)
- HB2936, to firmly establish that local law enforcement officers have the authority to enforce immigration laws (incorporated into HB1970, passed House 70-28)
- HB2937, to prohibit charities from using public funds to benefit illegal aliens (passed House 70-29)
- HJ696, tasking the Virginia Housing Commission with a study of residential overcrowding (passed House & Senate)
Of note, Jeanette Rishell publicly opposed HB2937, arguing that charities should be able to provide services to anyone they want, regardless of their immigration status. Seeing how she’s engaged in this practice by organizing fundraisers for Mexicans Without Borders at her Unitarian Church, she’s pretty clearly dedicated to ensuring that illegal aliens can continue to be assisted by charities, even with the taxpayer’s money.
As far as “do nothing” on illegal immigration, Jackson Miller’s record pretty clearly demonstrates otherwise. There are arguably few other members of the House of Delegates who do more on this issue. The other claims are similarly bogus, and haven’t been “sourced” in this mailer. Usually when you point out criticisms of your opponent, the practice is to reference newspaper articles or public documents that substantiate your claims. Not here. Not Jeanette Rishell. It’s unlikely there is a source for these claims, because they appear to be just as untrue as her claim that Miller isn’t doing anything on illegal immigration.
Jeanette Rishell’s desperation at this relatively early point in the campaign might indicate that her campaign isn’t going as well as she’d hoped, as this is a pretty bold set of lies to be throwing around. With Rishell going negative with her first mail piece, this campaign isn’t looking like it’s going to be any more positive than it was last year.

She’s a snake! and a liar who is as transparent as a piece of glass. ..
manassascityresident,
Yes, she is.
MCR
Snake, now that’s a good one.
Well, I hope she see’s my Jackson Miller sign and keeps on walking.
Hey, Jeanette! Spend, spend, spend and Lose, lose, lose! I love it when they waste their money!
Legal2
LOSE she shall!!!
Go Jackson!
http://www.miller4delegate.com/home/?
I’ve already sent Jackson some $, even though I’m not in his district and can’t (legally) vote for him. But now, I’m going to send him even more, because MCR and COM agree that his opponent is a snake and a liar! Very educational banter. Thanks for the enlightenment, folks. I never would have realized she was (both) a snake and a liar without you pointing it out. We should highlight such intelligent posts to make them stand out from the mundane, baseless opinions that proliferate the blog. I’m surprised John Light hasn’t chimed in with an appropriate quote that he thinks he heard on Jerry Springer.
With supporters with this level of sophistication, Jackson’s going to need all the help he can get, both from within and outside of his district. I wish him well.
Advocator -
Point well taken.
Can anyone tell me where I can get a Jackson Miller yard sign? Thanks!
Has anyone even noticed that RPV payed for the piece. Looks like Miller is gonna have his campaign get help from Richmond afterall. Thank goodness.
JM,
I have Stirrup, and some other signs and bumper stickers. I don’t have any Jackson Miller signs though. I sure wish I did, I know several who would love to have a Miller sign. I’ve left Greg L a message about you wanting a Jackson Miller sign.
All,
Anyone interested in getting a sign, I will be on Lomond Dr. in front of the bus lot at Stonewall Middle.
Bob Sentz,
I hope you see this message. I’ve got you Stirrup and Stewart sign!!
Hope to see you there!
I do have a few Jackson Miller bumper stickers, and will have them with me too!!!!
Take the high ground. Run on the record. This stuff does not work in local elections.
Hill vs Stoffregan
Connoughton vs Seefeldt
Chapman vs Parrish
Just a few examples of who went negative and lost.
Advocator,
Since you are back, do you want to answer the questions directed your way on the other thread?
I had a short talk with Jeanette this past 4th of July. She started out OK, but when I started to press her on her support of illegals, and what she would do regarding once nice neighborhoods slowly being turned into not so nice ones, she had no answer. She also attempted to spin that Jackson really was not so tough on illegal aliens, and that she would be. At that point, because I did stay on point, she got very defensive and huffed away. In fact, she is like many illegal alien supporters that come here, once the heat is on, those who seem so intent on backing their position, run and hide. To me that is a snake.
It is pretty sad that a so called “intelligent” person has a can of whoop opened up on them by one of us little people.
Talk about thowing stones in glass houses. Miller has sent out bogus attack pieces in this campaign already against Jeanette Rishell, trying to inflame not inform, which were not posted on this site in color, let alone his unfactual negative campaigning in the last election.
Jeanette’s mailer is factual and Miller’s actions a matter of public record, glad truth is getting out. His supporters may not like the truth coming out but it will. Jackson Miller’s and other right wing house members proposed anti-illegal immigrant legislation was voted down by members of the GOP that controls the Senate, for many reasons- impractical, violation of church state separation, unenforcable, Federal pre-emption, resistance from local law enforcement or a myriad of other flaws.
The bottom line is Miller is “do nothing” on this issue. He and the Republican party allowed immigration to get out of control for years, when he was in city council and before and now are not offering practical, fair, workable solutions to the regions issues. Name call Jeanette all you want if that childish rhetoric make you feel good, she has ideas that will work, are realistic, practical and inclusive. Vote for effective change, not hatred.
wake up,
I have been helping Jackson’s campaign. He has only sent out 2 mail pieces this year. Neither piece even mentioned Jeanette or the Democratic party. They only mentioned what he stood for.
Please explain what you are talking about with Jackson sending out a bogus attack piece in this campaign already???
I will also agree that both candidates were a little negative last year, but at least Jackson put a source for each one of his accusations against Jeanette.
I called Jackson last night and he agreed with the being late to council meetings part of her piece, but he told me that he had no idea what she was talking about when she says he voted for his own pay raise, voted for developments to line his own pockets, and that he just pretends to want to do something about illegal immigration.
Several people at church this morning said they were a bit perplexed as well.
It sounds like she is just making things up against an honorable person.
There are quite a few of us here in West Gate, that are absolutely disgusted by this mailer. Jackson, has served us well, as a Delegate and as PWPD officer. Jackson, had bills passed in the house side. However, some of those same bills NEVER even made it out of committee. Please, Jackson has accomplished more than most have in a short amount of time.
Visit Jackson’s website above, support and vote for him too.
wake up and cmon over,
That’s EXACTLY what YOU, and others like you need to do.
Vote for Jackson!
Are you a member of Jeanette’s Joker’s, WWC or MSF?
Actually Lafayette, it sound like wuaco (aka whackjob) is the author of that Richell abomination. We got it too…ran it through the shredder.
AWC
Will you be burning the shreddings too?
I’m still amazed at how many folks just DON’T GET IT!!
I think there are lot more us that DO GET IT, and our trying to make some positive changes around our community. I think we’ve been pretty successful in a short time. We must keep up the momentum.
corr
and ARE trying to make….
P.S. How much longer before Manassas Park residents get on board and address the “illegal Invasion” and their displeasure, and demand that they the legal citizens are represented by their governing board?
“Will you be burning the shreddings too?”
Naw…maybe it’ll be recycled into toilet paper.
I haven’t received any mailings from Miller this year yet, but last year I did receive negative telephone push-polling from him, or some group supporting him. It’s 5 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.
I don’t mind getting calls from candidates, but have some integrity and don’t go negative. That goes for both sides.
I have seen both candidates ads. Rischell’s is one the worst of all political advertising shenanigans that I have ever seen at a local level. I truly was floored when it arrived over the weekend. Using blatant accusations, no proof for them, and then a visual tie in to gambling that has two possible plays 1. to try and hit home among good church going folk and/or 2. to simply say hey don’t “gamble” with your vote. Given the level of viciousness my guess is the “and” - not the “or”. Shame on you Rischell - where is your honor?
Miller is a politician that gets things done. Moreover he is an honorable man. Rock on!
I’m glad to see she wasted the money on sending two to my house, one for me and one for my husband. One was bad, but two really. They’ve been burned!
Jackson has gotten plenty done for us a politician and as an officer of the law. Thank you Jackson!!
Is it true that Jackson Miller and William Daubert were responsible for the KKK literature in our Manassas neighborhood? That’s my understanding.
patryot,
When does your HBO show come on, you are just too funny.
