Jeanette Rishell: Once, Twice Three Times A Liar
By Greg L | 19 September 2007 | Jeanette Rishell | 28 Comments
What in the heck is Jeanette “Moonfruit” Rishell thinking? Even after the claims in her mailer, and which were retold in a robo-call were debunked by a member of the Manassas City Council who isn’t even a Republican, she’s followed this up with yet another mailer repeating these discredited claims. I can understand, perhaps, getting this wrong once if you’re running a disorganized and chaotic campaign, but three times? These are blatant lies, and everyone should be pounding on her campaign phone at 703-309-2220 telling her to knock this off. It’s pathetic.
Here’s the flyer:

Here’s Councilman Randolph’s take on this in the comment section of a previous post:
While we all are entitled to our own opinion; we are not entitled to our own set of facts.
Jackson Miller, while serving on the Manassas City Council, DID NOT recieve a pay increase. That is a fact and one that could be easily verified. In fact, no pay increase was granted to the Mayor or any Councilmember (me included) during that period.
Hope this helps to set the record straight on this issue.
As for the claim that he voted for “development projects to benefit himself”, no one has been able to identify exactly what development project this is supposedly related to, and no one can find an instance where a development project in Manassas during Miller’s service to the city has benefited him in any way. Without any attempt to substantiate this smear, Rishell is apparently hoping that a lie often repeated can become the truth. Not in this district.
While Jackson Miller did miss some council meetings while he was out campaigning for office last year, hardly anyone seems particularly troubled by this.
The most egregious claim, that Jackson Miller “pretends to care about illegal immigration”, just who is it that got the ball rolling on getting the Section 287(g) Program adopted in the region, which has yielded substantial and rapid results for our region, and who is it that opposed the program? Yes, it was Jackson Miller who got Manassas City moving on this, which prompted Prince William County to adopt it in the Adult Detention Center, and Jeanette Rishell opposed it.
Jeanette Rishell has clearly demonstrated that she does not have the moral fiber to represent us.

Just got more Jeanette Junk Mail. I’ve taken it to Greg. Hopefully, we will see it soon. We all know he’s a busy man.

Here’s one line I do remember exactly.
“With Jackson Miller in Richmond, we get one bad trick after another.” Top read “Jackson Miller is a shell of a delegate.”
Support and vote for Jackson.
As outlandish as these lies are, the Jackson campaign must answer back NOW.
She has to be attacked as a negative, campaigning, blatant liar who will stop at nothing to get elected. And why is she lying?…because she’s hiding from her own pathetic record that is not only out of step with the district, but so laughable that she’d never be taken seriously in Richmond EVER.
Or as I like to say in campaigns, if they hit you with a bee bee gun, fire back with a double-barrel shotgun.
Jeanette and I have traded voicemails as I try to get to the bottom of her thinking on this.
I just can’t believe that after she refused to say anything negative last year unless it was backed up with facts to the hilt that she would reverse course so dramatically. The mailers are being created by DPVA approved consultants and I would be curious to know if there are similar mailers about other incumbants.
The image is very small on this site but it doesn’t appear to have any references to bills, dates, or votes cast by Jackson that would support the claims. Are there any references she is pointing to on these mailers?
“Not in this district.”
That’s actually not true Greg. There is a substantial vote in this district that eagerly falls right into that pit…I know from experience. I agree with Clean it up in ‘07 that Jackson must address this right away. I would suggest challenging her to a series of debates and then wiping the floor with her and her lies! Negative pieces in response, unless they come from a citizen group not directly associated with Jackson’s campaign, are non-productive…Jackson doesn’t need to get down to her level. If she refuses to debate (I’m sure that there are a substantial number of venues which would be interested in arriving at the truth of the matter…wouldn’t look good), she can be severely castigated with a shake of the head, and “the poor woman must be really desperate to lie so blatantly” at a press conference.
There was absolutely nothing but unsubstantiated allegations, Matt. That puts her four-square on that low par with Stevie Chapman in my book. I believe those who said she was a nice lady obviously cannot see beyond the book’s cover…a lot of people said the same thing (a nice boy, huh!) about Chapman.
There is a debate open to the public sponsored by the Prince William Committee of 100 between Rishell and Miller:
Thursday, Oct. 4
7:45 pm
Sheraton (the old Holiday Inn) in Manassas off of I66 behind the Cracker Barrel
There is a $20 dinner at 7 pm if you want to meet and greet the candidates before the debate. The debate itself is free.
You can submit questions (and make dinner reservations) for the debate to the committee’s website: pwc100.org
There is a link at the bottom for submitting questions that you would like to be asked in the debate. You have to specify the debate to which you would like to direct your questions.
This is a classic example of a campaign showing very low internal poll numbers. If what you are saying is true about these attack pieces being the challengers first mail, it shows that she must drive up the negatives on her challenger.
From an experienced political observers eye, Miller should actually be feeling pretty good about his challengers strategy. It shows that she knows she is behind right now.
AWCheney is right correct, Miller has to make sure to re-buff the false (or at the very least - extremely stretched) allegations.
Congratulations Delegate Miller, your opponents actions mean you have won this race (unless you stop working or make a huge mistake.)
I just left a “nice” message at Rishell’s campaign office (703-309-2220) - we all should call!
Go JACKSON!
I didn’t see in the scanned piece that there are no footnotes. Sounds like a DPVA field person got lazy when he was doing cookie cutter, hit pieces for all challenger candidates. So lame. Even RPV pieces are tightly footnoted with sources on EVERYTHING.
The Jackson campaign still needs to hit back — not to answer ridicuous, baseless charges point by point, but to point out that she is a reckless, desperate, mudslinging, out-of touch, dilusional, gadfly, no idea, negative only, part of the problem not the solution, joke, puppet of the DPVA, can’t be trusted to tell the truth or even be smart enough to know what the truth is if it hit her in the face type, LOSER candidate.
Anyway…something like that…only in a really, “nice, tactful way”…..haha.
Clean it up -
I wish you had posted before I made my call so that I could have used your words!
Too perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This site, after the unreleting barrage of misinformation and lies it told about Jeannett in the last campaign is the last place that should even utter the slightest wimper when Jeannett decides to go high and inside on Jackson Miller. It is not like this is place of dispassionate and factually accurate discussion of the issues — it is a cesspool of relligious and ethnic bigotry, urban legends, and hysteria. As for Matt, campaign manager should, once a campaign is over, keep their mouths shut about what they advised.
Sounds like Anonymous is, indeed, deeply involved in the Rishell campaign. Sad that you feel the need to take a page out of the “Steve Chapman Playbook” this time around, particularly considering Rishell tried, unsuccessfully, to make it look like she was Harry Parrish’s natural successor last time…and forced the Parrish family to come out of their grieving process long enough to refute it. You people have absolutely no shame. I hope this is the LAST time this woman shows up on our radar here in the 50th District.
Anon,
I thought the left did not like to stereotype. Though I suppose you are the exception to the rule.
Are illegal aliens an urban legend? Is the fact more Dems support illegals then Repubs do an urban legend?
riSHELL needs to go back under HER SHELL !!!
My letter to the Editor I just sent:
Dear Editor: I have received two postcards from Friends of Jeanette Rishell, both saying basically the same thing. I would like to know when Jackson Miller voted himself a pay-raise while in Richmond. Richmond has had NO bills for pay-raises. I would like to know where Ms. Rishell’ got her information. I would also like to know which developments Jackson Miller voted on that lined his pockets. If Ms. Rishell is going to make these allegations, then she needs to back them up with FACTS. Let’s see the FACTS. Otherwise, these are blatant lies she is advertising to try to get into the office. I wonder if she lies to her Mexican Without Borders friends that she has supported, along with her support of the illegal supporters, yet NOW she claims she is for laws to curb illegal immigration. I wonder if she lies to her children and grandchildren? That’s a terrible example. Ms. Rishell states Jackson Miller is playing a “shell game”. I think the only game being played here is the RISHELL game.
ddpdrinker -
GREAT letter! Thanks for sending it and saying what we think!
I happened to call her campaign employee at the number listed on her web site. The volunteer stated that while on the City Council he voted for a raise. I advised the employee that I could find no record of Mr. Miller voting for a raise. She advised me that she would get the exact ordinace number and call me the next day. She called me today and advised me that she had made a mistake and that he voted for a raise while serving as Delegate. I advised the employee that thre is no record of Delegate Miller voting for a pay raise in Richmond. She then changed hr tune and said that he actually voted for a “per diem” raise. I advised her that is not the same as a pay raise and that employees in the private and public sector all recieve per diems when travelling for work and that in my case the City pays me a different amount depnding on where I am training. I asked her if Ms. Rishell is going to set the record straight and the employee said it was just a mistake. I advised her it is a mistake if she corrects it, it is a lie if she allows it to go uncorrected. The employee became upset when I advised her that if Ms. Rishell would not correct the “mistake” then I would write a letter to the edior of the MJM, which I hate to admit that I do read for the local high school sports, and I would state that Ms. Rischell’s campaign volunteer provided me the correct information. She then became upset and told me she would have someone else who is higher in the campaign call me and wished that I would not do that. Seems to me Ms. Rischell is either a person who made a mistake or a liar. It is up to hr which one she is.
Sam: Did you get the name of the person you spoke with? Send that info to the editor. opinion@potomacnews.com I wish I would have had that when I wrote my letter.
Janet is a clueless politician who can’t stand on any issues. That’s why she attacks with “crafty” character bashing material. She has no ability to debate the issues, which is why she’s so ignorant of why the rest of us won’t support her. Self-delusion fits her issue platform.

Way to go! Excellent later. Well, let’s see if they print it.
Thank you!!
I had another interesting run in with Jeannette last night. While she was out knocking on doors presumable to talk with potential voters, I waited on my stoop until she passed my house we exchanged greetings. I started to ask her a question and she immediately said she did not have time to talk to me. Well, to make a long story short, just as she did on Independence Day, she ended up storming off, after telling some more lies about Jackson.
She said he failed to do anything about illegal aliens in the last Session of the GA because his many bills were not passed. I asked her how she would handle the declining neighborhoods in the district, she said she would work with others to get money, but did not make it exactly clear how she could do that, and gain the corporation of others. So, on one hand, she says Jackson is a failure because he did not get any of his bills passed, but says she will be able to do it by working with others. OK….. Seems that is what Jackson did.
She also said without laughing she is a moderate. I said as she was running away, you are a typical liberal who when comforted with facts and the truth, you run and hide.

BTW, Jeanette or anyone else from her campaign who might read this blog…. If you run away from me because you think I ask tough questions, exactly how are you going to fair against law makers in Richmond? I am just a simple person asking simple questions to someone who wants to represent me and my concerns in Richmond, yet you on two occasions have not had the time, or the answers to my questions.
How can you be an effective elected official if you are unwilling to listen to folks who are not in lock step with your own views?
Jackson Miller was the first one to step up to the plate to combat illegal aliens. Just ask those who live in Manassas City.
I repeat: JEANETTE RISHELL LIVES in MANASSAS PARK. WHAT HAS SHE DONE TO COMBAT ILLEGAL ALIENS IN MANASSAS PARK? NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just take a drive in Manassas Park and see for yourself.
As for Anonymous said on 19 Sep 2007 at 7:48 pm: suggesting I keep my mouth shut I’ll have to decline.
I look at it this way, Jeanette came within 4 points of defeating Jackson last year in a VERY Republican district by only going negative with documented facts, working hard, and doing everything possible to discuss the issues. I don’t understand why this is apparently not happening now other than the fact that DPVA is heavily involved with their consultants who don’t know the district and who live to suck money from campaigns while usually providing poor advice.
Without knowing the inner workings of this campaign my guess is she feels trapped by DPVA who is forcing her to use certain consultants and to also use DPVA’s “plan” for victory in this district. If she doesn’t, she will get ZERO support from the party or it’s members. This is how DPVA operates, and this is why they lose elections.
Further, I am no longer a member of the PWCDC and I consider myself an Independent who is not tied to any campaign this year. I have a right to speak out against anyone who I believe is not performing or behaving well in a campaign.
Matt: I would agree with your assesment of how the party can make you do certain things to keep your targeting money, but the bottom line is it has her disclaimer, not DPVA’s as an independent expenditure. The candidate has 100% responsibility in this case.
I agree Clean; I was only trying to convey how the system works with DPVA.
Matt, the problem with people like Rishell is that they never learned to assume responsibility for their own actions…or inactions. I’m quite certain that she had every opportunity to put a stop to this smear campaign against Jackson, but do you really think she had nothing to do with it in the first place? Every report we’ve been getting here on the blog from people who have encountered her in her door-to-door confirms that those hit pieces were only extensions of what she’s saying in the homes. She deserves to go down hard, and disappear from the political radar just like her role model Steve Chapman.
AW-
I never said she didn’t have anything to do with this. All I’m saying is that she is getting horrible advice from paid consultants who don’t care about her or her image. I am just surprised about all of this having worked with her previously. It seems out of character for her to not back up her mail/statements with evidence. But ultimately, she is the one responsible; I hope that her campaign moves in a more positive direction.
Matt, only 46 days away. You know very well that Miller will hit her back. Now that she has put out pathetically blatant lies, any of her “accurate” or “true” hits on Miller wont have nearly as strong an effect.
This was a fatal mistake by her campaign. She should have hired you back again this year, she might have had a prayer.
