Re: Amyl Nitrate

Please read:

http://www.well.com/user/woa/fsinhale.htm

Amyl nitrite and butyl nitrite were both abused. I believe the head shop sold both. Maybe butyl was the worse of the two. Either way - these places targeted kids with their bongs, pipes and then legal inhalents.

Patty:

As usual, your arguments are illogical and your writing is, at best, semi-literate. I can understand grammar and spelling problems in posts but your problems go far beyond those minor issues.

1. I never addressed my comments to you. At the time I wrote my initial comment there was an original article as well as seven prior comments. You wrote one prior comment. Why do you start your comment by writing, "Please, did you read my post ?". The voices in your head may be talking to you. I was not.

2. You say you lived in "this neighborhood". I give up - what neighborhood? Should I infer that all the photographs come from a single neighborhood where you once lived? And should I further infer that your historical residence in that neighborhood gives you some kind of clarvoiance as to the ethnic background of the people who live in the houses in the photographs? If you know that every residence in the photographs is occupied by illegal immigrants then that is what you should say. If you don't know this to be true then I wonder how you could logically infer such a thing.

3. Your rambling statements about seniors who are "trapped here" is really bizarre. As far as I know there are seniors living in every neighborhood in Northern Virginia - from the masnions to the trailer parks. Do you have a point about the seniors in "this neighborhood"? And, why are they trapped? Are the illegal immigrants holding them hostage? They paid taxes for years and years. I imagine that they did. So have I. They fought the wars. Some did. My Dad fought in both Korea and Vietnam. He's 80 and lives in Northern Virginia. I asked him what he thinks of the illegal immigration controversy. He said he thinks it's the same thing that people have said about the latest immigrants for over 100 years. In other words, he thinks you're full of it. He also asked that you use a caveat when you presume to speak for seniors. He asks that you end every one of your pronouncements with "except for Fairfax Resident's Dad who thinks I am an idiiot.". For example, instead of saying, "I know seniors oppose immigration" please say, "I know seniors oppose immigration except for Fairfax Resident's Dad who thinks I am an idiot". Fair is fair. He's a senior, he paid taxes for years and he fought in wars.

4. You use of "SHAME ON YOU" at the end of your posts is childish at best. The world is full of people who disagree with you. There is nothing shameful in that. The shame is that there are people like you posting an endless stream of illogical and inarticulate rants on the internet. You hurt your own cause.

Fairfax Resident,

Please, did you read my post? I lived in this neighborhood. I know what it was like - a real nice neighborhood - and I know what it is now - run down and slum looking. The majority of the residents in this area are Hispanic. I wish you would all wake up from your dream world and face reality. You have Fairfax County Code Inspectors (if they have any and I wonder, since these conditions exist) to thank for the above as well as your "wonderful" Chairman, Gerry Connolly.

As I said before there are seniors who are trapped here who have to live with this every day. They are the ones who paid taxes for years and years and years. They fought the wars. You benefit from their sweat and blood and when the illegal aliens invade their neighborhoods you look the other way and pretend nothing bad is happening. SHAME ON YOU!

"amyl nitrate "

You mean smelling salts? The kind you can get in any decent first aid kit? Oh, the horror! A head shop was "legally" selling these?

How about public intoxication, indecent exposure, hit and run, etc. etc. which have only been exacerbated by illegal aliens?

Better give them some smelling salts!

Interesting posts.

To keep the drumroll going, I grew up in Fairfax County - one block off of Rt 1 in the stretch between Ft Belvoir and Alexandria. That stretch has improved since I grew up there. Sorry - but there was "Bobby Jo's Flaming Den Health Salon" right on Rt 1 in Hybla Valley. Everybody knew what went on in there. There were vast trailer parks lining Rt 1 with scenes that make your photos look tame. The attendents at Musso's gas station wore side arms at night. There was a "head shop" legally selling amyl nitrate just up Rt 1 from Musso's.

And I knew 1 Hispanic person the whole time I was growing up just off Rt 1. Great guy. Married my friend's sister. Good husband. Good father.

There were white and black, Korean and Chinese, transplanted Hillbillies and people who moved out of DC to "get away from the crime". Even a few kids who dressed up like it was the 1950s and called themselves "greasers". But there were virtually no hispanics - legal or illegal.

And the blight was still there. In fact, it was worse.

Connolly is a knuckle-head. Illegal immigration does cause problems. The zoning laws are a joke. But to blame all the problems you can see on Hispanics or illegal immigrants just doesn't pass the "sniff test". They certainly weren't causing the problems on Rt 1 in the 1970s.

I lived in this neighborhood when I was younger. This was a nice neighborhood. Currently, the majority of the residents are Hispanic. I've seen them with my own two eyes. If you look closely at the white house with all the construction debris, you will notice that there are no construction permits. I guess there are some of you who just don't want to face reality.

TBW, LOVISA, MOM I did live is this area. I visit there on a regular basis. Connolly thinks this is how the illegal alien population helps to diversify Fairfax County. It is sad. What is even more sad is there are seniors who live in this area. Some have fought wars to protect your freedom. They have paid taxes for years and years and years. You are benefiting from their sweat and blood and now they have to live with what you see in the pictures. Shame on you! Shame on Fairfax County! Shame on Connolly!

Ok, NOW for something completely different. While it is true that there have been areas like this in the past (sorry Turn PW Blue/Mom/Lovisa, I am sure you have lived in Fairfax County for much longer than my 41 years), it WAS confined to Route 1, Lorton, and Franconia. But, at the same token, it was nowhere NEAR what it is today, and THAT IS due to the population explosion of our illegal "friends" from the south (and NOT talking about Mississippi or Alabama).

I will be happy to even take pics (and send to Greg) of BRAND NEW houses that have been cheaply built and serve as boarding houses. If you attended the meeting with Jay O'Brien a couple weeks back, you passed it just after turning off of Old Keene Mill Road.

Lovisa would rather we sit back and do absolutely NOTHING. Lovisa reminds me of the not-too-old French mentality of caving in to whoever is taking over (read French loyalty to the Nazis). Or another anology would be to the anti-death penalty people. As long as it was not THEIR relative raped and murdered, they are against the death penalty.

We REFUSE to roll over and let the illegals (and even legals) destroy our neighborhoods. We will be viligant in our actions and do everything within the rule of the law and if there is NOT a law on the books about a certain issue, we will make sure that our politicans write one that will pass legal muster.

I will not settle for MY home being taken over by scum, be they legal or illegal. And if they are ruining my neighborhood and they are ILLEGAL!!! You better believe I will do all I can, as wil my neighbors, to ensure that the proper authorities are notified so that we will NEVER have to say, "If only we had acted sooner!!!"

My gosh, your corps of photographers must be busy. Video taping the pool hall incident and driving around the county finding houses that look bad, and maybe, just maybe, what you might call "persons of interest" for future use.

Have to agree with TWB, I saw a lot of this in a "nice" section of western Fairfax as far back as fifteen years and for the seven I lived in that area, homes under perpetual remodeling, untagged and damaged vehicles, dumpsters in driveways, etc., etc., etc. You can't draw any new conclusions from the incidents or photographs as this isn't anything new. BTW, teh individuals responsible for every one of the incidents I mentioned were legal (at least from a birth or immigration standpoint) citizens, some at the lower end of the socio-economic scale, other not (just lazy).

With regard to the first photo, if the neighborhood is zoned for duplexes, what is zoning to do?

If the owner of the second home has a permit, again what can you do, how long has it been like this, you need all the facts to put this one into context.

As for the third photograph, perhaps they're natives of WVA (can we deport them as well?).

The fourth photo shows one of my pet peeves but law enforcement generally are slow to address these vehicles, regardless the jurisdiction, it's just not a priority.

And you know that every one of the residences in these photos belongs to or is inhabited by an illegal alien how? You can't. You even say so:

"There’s no way for average citizens to determine the extent to which illegal aliens are responsible for these problems."

But then you add this:

"Before illegal aliens started flooding certain areas of Fairfax County however, such conditions were a rarity."

Which isn't really true. I grew up in Fairfax County. There were plenty of sights like the ones you've posted that pre-date the explosion of the illegal immigrant population. Large swaths of Lorton looked like this (especially as you got closer to the prison). Most of Route 1, from south of Fort Belvoir to the Alexandria line looked a lot like this. Some of the older sections of Springfield and Franconia looked this bad. Many of these areas have since improved only to be replaced by others. This is, unfortunately, more the result of socio-economic difference than illegal immigration. These types of sights are the bane of urban planners and have been for decades.

The first photo looks like some of the odd expansion/renovation projects I've seen where one door is the original front door to the home and the other is a door coming off the new section where the driveway sits. It's ugly, but I didn't think ugly was illegal. Have you been inside this residence? Are you certain there are two separate living areas? Would it make a difference to you if one of the doors was on the side or rear of the house? My old house in Fairfax had three entry doors--the traditional front door, a rear entry, and a door off the carport that led to the kitchen. Formal guests used the front door, friends and family the entrance off the carport, and, when I was a teenager, I used the back entrance.

Photo two also looks like a construction renovation project. It's not unheard of for such projects to take a couple of weeks to be completed. In fact, I've got a neighbor in PWC who has taken THREE YEARS to finish a deck on the back of his house. As long as he shows some progress, he keeps getting his permit extended. Oh, and he's a natural born citizen and Army veteran.

The last two photos are pretty bad and evidence that the "strike force" needs to do a little more. However, unless you have some proof (that you have not presented here), there is nothing in either of the last two photos that indicates that these blemishes are the results of illegal aliens. In fact, both remind me of sights I recall from my youth growing up near Lorton. The homes and cars in question belonged to red-blooded Americans.
