Three Strikes, And Jeanette Rishell is OUT!

By Greg L | 26 September 2007 | Jeanette Rishell, 50th HOD District | 20 Comments

The Gainesville Times took up the brewing battle over Jeanette Rishell’s negative campaign in an article today, pinning Rishell down on what she meant by her unsourced and undocumented claims that Jackson Miller somehow doesn’t care about illegal immigration, voted to raise his own pay, and enriched himself with his votes on the Manassas City Council. It’s pretty funny to see how Jeanette Rishell ducks and weaves, and can’t even explain to reporter Dan Roem why she is making some of these statements. If she can’t explain what these baseless charges mean to the media, just how in the heck are voters supposed to take them at face value? I don’t believe they can conclude anything but that Jeanette Rishell is a bald-faced liar.

First up is the completely discredited claim that Jackson Miller raised his own pay:

Rishell said Tuesday that in June 2006, Miller voted to raise his own salary on the Manassas City Council by about $1,000 per month.

However, the June 2006 City Council minutes reveal no such expenditures being voted upon.

Also, the fiscal year 2007 adopted budget for the City of Manassas indicates that the total pay to the council decreased $1,880 from fiscal 2006.

This seems to be precisely what Manassas City Councilman Steve Randolph said about this allegation.  So the Gainesville Times, which actually tries to validate what people say, unlike some other local media, actually demonstrates that Jackson Miller actually voted to reduce his pay as a Councilman.  Strike One!

Then she switches her tune and says that this was in reference to the budget bill that was passed in the last session.  This bill authorized a change in the way per-diem expenses could be reimbursed, although the Rules Committee never actually changed the authorized per-diem amount, and they’re the ones who actually make that decision.  Jackson Miller isn’t on the Rules Committee, which is the actual arbiter of per-diem allowances.

It’s worth noting that the per-diem amount was set at either the same daily rate that had been in place for years, or the rate that the IRS allows taxpayers to use as a deduction for business expenses, which is hard to argue is some sort of huge benefit.  Even if the rate had changed, which it hasn’t, all it would do is allow legislators to use the same rates that are currently afforded to taxpayers.  At this point, they get a lower rate.

Rishell also charged Miller took a per diem pay increase in Richmond, referencing the public revenues bill HB 1650.
That bill was unanimously approved by both chambers of the General Assembly.

“There is no reason to include an increase in per diem or any kind of increase of income for those in Richmond,” Rishell said, adding that the state is still hurting for transportation money.

Miller disagreed with the premise of the statement.

“My per diem never changed from the time I was there,” he said.

And that is entirely accurate.  No one got additional per-diem money.  Rishell is lying again.  Strike Two!

Now, onto this development project fantasy land:

Rishell’s other claim about the development projects goes back to Miller’s time on City Council. She cited the Hastings Marketplace in Manassas, which was approved unanimously by the Manassas City Council for development on Sept. 25, 2006.

When asked for further details about the Hastings Marketplace development and how that project benefited Miller, Rishell deferred to her campaign staff.

Her campaign manager, Josh Panger, said, “Jackson’s a Realtor. Really, any development project he votes for will possibly help him in some way.”

Speaking about the general idea that he supports development projects to line his pockets, Miller declared, “That pisses me off.”

If he had been guilty of such an action, he said, it could cost him his job at Christopher Real Estate in Manassas.

Jeanette Rishell can’t even explain her basis for this statement?  Not even her campaign staff can substantiate this allegation in any way!  That is completely stunning.  Didn’t the multiple fliers that foisted this lie say that they were authorized by her?  Or is she somehow not responsible for what her campaign does on her behalf?

There’s no evidence whatsoever to support this ridiculous claim.  Rishell can’t even explain why she’s making it.  This kind of malicious recklessness with the truth should absolutely disqualify her as a candidate for any office, and finally, the media pins her down on it.  Another lie.  Strike Three.  You’re OUT!

The electorate is well within it’s rights to call Jeanette Rishell’s campaign office at 703-309-2220 and berate them for this irresponsible and ridiculous behavior.  For those who live in the county, and are looking for a newspaper that actually covers local politics with any depth, they ought to call up the Gainesville Times and become subscribers.  With half the staff of the Manassas Urinal-Massager (which hasn’t covered this at all!), they’re doing twice as good a job of informing the electorate about local candidates.  What a difference a good editorial board can make.

Faisal Gill also has three strikes against him:

Gill worked as the Director, Government Relations for the imprisoned terrorist Abdurahman Alamoudi’s American Muslim Council…STRIKE ONE!

Gill is a partner in the illegal immigration law firm of Gill and Gallinger, which advertises that it will file for Waiver of Deportation on behalf of illegal immigrant clients…STRIKE TWO!

Gill and Gallinger law partner Asim Ghafoor is suing the National Security Agency For $1,000,000 because the NSA listened to Gill’s international phone calls with fugitive Saudi financier and Specially-Designated Global Terrorist Soliman Al-Buthe…STRIKE THREE!

As a dejected Faisal Gill slinks back to the dugout in November, we do have to worry how long it will be before Tom Kopko, Corey Stewart, Michele McQuigg, Ken Cuccinelli and Grover Norquist conspire to send Terror Lobbyist #1 Gill to Richmond again.

I believe that even a November 2007 defeat won’t stop Kopko et al from pushing Gill on us once again.

I meant that the NSA listented to GHAFOOR’s international phone calls to Soliman Al-Buthe. Ghafoor. Ghafoor.

I do not allege that Gill himself has had international phone conversations with Al-Buthe, although it might be interesting to find out.

She’s Once, Twice, Three times a liar!

I think this is the begining of the end of her political career. I understand that there is a Miller piece hitting today, which hits back. I can’t wait to see it.

    The Patriot,
Maybe you should visit her campaign office, or next event?
Don’t sit by the phone waiting for the answer you already know.
    No DREAM ACT!!!

    Patriot,

She hasn’t responded to me either. I don’t think we should hold our breath. Do you? I think we all know that she doesn’t support 287g and she never will. So that’s the answer to how tough she is going to be on illegal aliens.

I wouldn’t waste my valuable time going to any of her events! She has demonstrated that she will not solve the illegal alien problem! She seems to be all talk and no action!

    Johnathan Mark,

While I am not a fan of Gill, and wouldn’t vote on him if I could, please refrain from posting that stuff here. You are preaching to the Choir. Gill parties with terrorists. He’s a terrible candidate. He’s a fat slob. He’ll lose big time. We get it. We agree. Give it a rest will ya? Or are you a Rishell supporter?

This is why we must see action against illegal immigration NOW! Talk is cheap…action solves problems! For those liberals that say “they don’t see any problems”….the problems described in the article above sounds exactly like what we are facing here! Coincidence? I think NOT!

You’re right don’t waste your time. Time is too valuable these days. I’m sick of getting her junk mail. I got more yesterday. Can we return to sender on this sort of junk mail? I know with other unwanted mail there are ways of sending it right back where it came from and the postage is all on the sender.

She is a typical liberal. Once faced with the facts, she runs and hides. She has run from me twice this summer.

I can’t wait for the debates to watch Jackson open a can of whoop on her.

Wow, she JUST stopped by (Manassas Park, current time) to ask me “what was the most important issue” and what she could do to represent me. Looks like she had my name from the tax records or something.

I was polite but told her that I didn’t think she’d have the opportunity and to have a good day.

She came through my neighborhood over the weekend. Jeanette is unelectable, but I feel completely betrayed by Jackson Miller voting for those damn abusive driver fees. I saw the mailing today from Rishell and called Miller’s campaign to see if it was true. They acknowledge that it indeed was. That was a bad piece of legislation. I am extremely disappointed that he would vote for something that doesn’t apply to non-Virginia drivers and illegal aliens. I am pretty disgusted with both of them now and I would tell either of them that if they came knocking on my door.

    Anon,

The bill was changed by Timmy Kaine to exclude those folks from out of State. Something needs to be done about transportation, a few years ago the tax increase failed here in NOVA. Knowing that the GA did something that would not hit everyone, since one, not everyone drives, two, it focuses on those that abuse the road system. The bill makes sense in that only those that have run afoul of the law will have to pay, if you are not one to run afoul of the law, you have nothing to worry about.

Also, ask Jennette how she would pay for it. During last years debate at the AMC Jennette refused to answer the question on how she would find the revenue for her transportation plan. It does not take a genius to figure out that she would raise taxes, that would hit everyone.

Anon 7:42 At first I didn’t like the abusive drivers fees either, but learning more has changed how I feel about it. Did you read what Miller says in the Gainesville Times article about the fees? How can we argue with that, considering the devastation he must’ve seen as a cop due to flagrantly aggressive and reckless driving? This shed a whole new light on this issue for me. The fees are being applied to those who break the laws right? I travel on 66 and 495 and at times feel as if I’m taking my life in my hands. I also saw an interesting stat online in the paper (think it was the MJM, but don’t remember for sure) that quotes the VA State Police as saying that reckless driving ticketings have gone down since the abusive driver fees went into effect. That is good news, not bad news.

I am not one to run afoul of the law, even traffic law, but this particular law is overly paternal and heavy handed. Bad drivers shouldn’t be singularly subjected to bad law - two wrongs don’t make a right. I don’t think Rishell would have any great ideas either. I was just surprised and disappointed that Miller voted for it.

[Ed note: this is getting off-topic. Let’s try to steer back, OK?]

Anonymous 9;35, “overly paternal and heavy handed” Give me a break. Traffic fine have been used for Govt. projects since cops have been giving out tickets. With the abuser fee at least the fine monies are going to where “traffic violation fines” should be going - transportation projects.

As an everyday lone commuter on Rt. 66 I’d have rather seen the fees for violating the HOV lane rise from a maximum of $500 to an absolute minimum of $500. I have to hand it the state police for doing a MUCH improved job of policing the HOV stretch and I know they can’t get’em all….but man, it burns me up to see another lone driver in the HOV lane.

BTW perhaps one of you intellectuals can describe for me what exactly constitutes a “commercial” vehicle. Every day, several (read A LOT!) of trucks or vans with multiple occupants fly by me in the HOV lane with the names of various companies plastered very clearly on the sides of thier vehicles. I never see them pulled over….I must be dead wrong on what a “commercial” vehicle is.

    ManexicoResident–

Commerical vehicles are defined here: http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/citizen/drivers/whatiscdl.asp

    Oh, then there is this:

“Trucks are permitted to use the HOV lanes in northern Virginia as long as they have the required number of occupants. Trucks are not permitted to use I-66 inside the Beltway at any time. Trucks are not permitted to use any of the HOV lanes in the Hampton Roads area.” (http://www.virginiadot.org/travel/hov-noexcuses.asp)

Note that “trucks” are not always commercial vehicles (see the first link above).
