Rob, understanding that things like murder and stealing are wrong is trivial. The smallest child can figure them out. I pity people who can only do good because they fear the punishment of an invisible sky wizard.

There are clear, universally true moral precepts: murder is bad. There are other precepts adopted here and there--the dumb stuff like don't eat pork--that are pointless.

It's so sad to see people who can't conceive of morality unless it's tied to some magical Daddy figure.

Cyril - You just contradicted yourself. If all morality is relative, there are no obvious and universal "moral imperatives", because there would be nothing to anchor those concepts to. The obvious and universal are absolutes, which dispels the notion of all morality being relative.

But I guess condescending to "the lower orders" doesn't give you enough time to actually think about what you have to say to keep yourself from looking foolish.

Rob Smalls, sorry but "morality" is a relative concept. Although many moral imperatives are universal (and obvious) like not killing, stealing, or lying, others are completely arbitrary and pointless. Witness for example the Islamic concept of making women run around completely covered up, Hasidic Jews and silly haircuts, fundie Christians who don't believe in making graven images, and Republican concepts of seeing homosexuality as evil. These are all idiotic moral rules, pointless and counterproductive in today's society, but for some reason they fascinate the lower orders.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

This will be just the first of many ridiculous things to happen with this commission.

Once these commissions start operating, every bill dealing with trying to fix the illegal alien problem will be referred to this group for "study" where, I predict, all constructive measures will be buried somewhere and never see the light of day. Then all the legislators who want to make their constituents believe they are doing something to solve the problem will say, "let's wait to see what the commission come up with."

We need another commission to do the REAL work. There should be a "Marshall Commission" that can devise REAL solutions to the problem -- call it "The Marshall Plan."

Dear God this man made a colossal blunder here. We need to hold his feet to the fire. If he makes decisions like this then what else is he doing to screw over the safety and security of the commonwealth? He won't support his citizens desire for illegal immigration enforcement and now he hires a terrorist to oversee the very thing that he has no desire to enforce! Recall, recall, recall.

Can you imagine what it would be like in this country if religious extremists took over the country and started making decisions based on what they felt their god wanted them to do instead of making decisions based on science and logic? And if they started enforcing their arbitrary morality on the rest of us? Man, I'm glad something like that couldn't happen here!

Yep, it's on the wire Omesh has stepped down (or maybe forced out) after Kaine was made publicily aware of Omesh's terrorist ties. Here is one source:

But don't worry dolph Kaine has vowed to appoint ANOTHER Muslim.

Actually, Turn PW Blue, a 2005 DEA report details Islamic extremists partnering with Mexican drug cartels to infiltrate the souther border:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/article/20070808/NATION/108080088/1001

"It is very likely that any future 'September 11th' type of terrorist event in the United States may be facilitated, wittingly or unwittingly, by drug traffickers operating on both sides of the United States-Mexico border," the DEA report says.

"Hearings I held in Laredo [Texas] last year and this DEA report show that our southern border is a terrorist risk," Mr. Royce said. "Law enforcement has warned that people from Arab countries have crossed the border and adopted Hispanic surnames. The drug cartels have highly sophisticated smuggling and money-laundering networks, which terrorists could access."

Actually, RU Paul, the northern border should be seen as more of a concern from the terrorism perspective. A GAO report just out found the northern border to be very vulnerable.

ddpdrinker,
That's right. Why not have the National Guard lend a hand too?
Secure borders are a must. In the meantime we must roll up the "red carpet" and make this place less desirable to illegal aliens.
Clean it up in '07,
Can't wait and thanks in advance.
