Traffic Stats: Getting Bigger

By Greg L | 2 October 2007 | Blogs | 7 Comments

Traffic sure seems to be growing:

Month Requests Pages
Nov 2006 85,139 46,716
Dec 2006 153,703 71,998
Jan 2007 251,054 97,197
Feb 2007 409,022 107,363
Mar 2007 451,614 166,047
Apr 2007 425,387 117,522
May 2007 551,496 157,681
Jun 2007 697,666 195,198
Jul 2007 792,982 199,274
Aug 2007 1,047,563 216,162
Sep 2007 1,296,992 238,304

“Requests” in the above are all of the HTTP requests made for different files, including individual images, pages and stylesheets. “Pages” are requests that are specifically for a web page, excluding all the requests for elements that are contained within them. This is pretty significant and relatively steady growth.

Is the locally-focused blog the future of the Virginia blogosphere? Could be, as a lot of this growth isn’t coming from attracting readers from other site, but growing readership that previously wasn’t visiting any other sites. Those readers are likely to venture out and sample what else is available, building the general community of Virginia political blogs, since we all seem to fill different niches that appeal to different local or thematic interests. Thankfully, this is not a zero-sum game.

If only this could be a paying gig. Having over a million requests a month is still pretty cool, though.

Greg, like TV of the past until cable broke the mold, you can make a living selling advertising the bigger you get. Personally, I think you do better than ABC, NBC, CBS etc, because you investigate what is relevant in my life, not 1/2 way around the world. I would much rather spend the few precious moments reading what you and others have to say about my local community, that the drivel spouted and contrived by Turner News, CNN or others just to capture my sense of desire for entertainment and ratings numbers.

Thank you for doing this for us, in case you have not been thanked often enough.

This IS the new news medium, so politicians better learn to trust it. It WILL change the way people vote and is the promary source of infor for how people make an intelligent voting decision. To help us better, post the issues of EACH candidate, voting record summaries, etc, so we can vote more intelligently at the polls. Blogs are real people saying real things, not fake people on TV saying fake things to get ratings and become celebrities.

Good for Oklahoma. I used to live there. They have a sense of community and ethics, unlike this area of political insanity gone awry where “social workers” dominate today’s politics

Before any of you make some wise butt comment about Oklahoma being backward in any way, I flew as an Air Force combat veteran out of Oklahoma for over 10 years and got to know them very well. I’m from Virginia, but the people there are not as tainted by political correctness as they are here. I was glad to have known and respected many of them. I wish Will Rogers had lived in this time, he’d have a thing or two to tell people about “illegal” immigration.
