Counting those leaning one way or another, a GOP poll has Gerry ahead of Gary 58 % to 42%. This would translate into a strong victory for the incumbent.
Interestingly, most polled -- likely voters all -- saw no real evidence of Gerry using his chairmanship on behalf of developers; rather, they see him as an early advocate of the transit-based residential and commercial planning that happens to be good for developers as well.
Likewise, most polled saw no real evidence of a Baise-Abramoff connection. Most are clear in believing Gary is likely an upstanding guy. They do show some concern he did not leave CREA when the Abramoff dirt came out and hasn't seen a symbolic value in cutting these ties. As an attorney his defense of corporate polluters over the years make some uneasy but it's an issue largely untouched in the campaign. In fact, most polled clearly like the generally high-tone displayed by gerry and gary in the campaign, and are very clear they want no negative campaigning.

Anybody have the source for the actual poll numbers (besides Red Virginia's sleep-induced fuzzy memory)? Seems odd to me that I can't find any reference to this poll on WMAL and no reference to is on Baise's Web site. Was this a Baise push poll (we all know how accurate they can be)? What were the actual poll questions? Seems to me Baise would be crowing about being so close since he was crowing in the past about being less than 20 points behind.

Perhaps if Baise would raise more than 40k, or actually run a field campaign he might make up some ground. Site the poll or shut up.

"If Baise would only start really taking the fight to Connolly, he could win this."

Do you really belive what you write?

Connolly is dancing the cha-cha-cha right now. Baise is running a principled, fact based campaign. He actually addresses the issues. Amazing - especially in Fairfax County.
