“El Taco” Endorsements Are In!

By Greg L | 4 October 2007 | 29th VA Senate, 50th HOD District | 29 Comments

So Rishell, Colgan and Ryland have received the “El Taco” endorsement.  I really don’t understand why this isn’t prominently featured on their campaign websites.

    Greg, this is racist.

Anonymous - since when did posting a picture and commenting on a fact become racist??? You are pathetic though who hides in the shadows and dare not post even under a fake name.

  3. Gone Fishing said on 4 Oct 2007 at 2:55 pm:

Anonymous, pray tell, just what is racist about Greg’s post?
    You are just being silly.

I’m not sure this means much of anything. The lot next to El Taco is vacant, so this might be on that plot instead of the restaurant property.

But I could be wrong. I’ll know when I drive by there on my way home tonight.

I have been a huge fan of El Taco, it has been a little hole in the wall landmark. They had one in the Kmart shoppping center for years. They changed onwership a few years back.
I don’t see what the big deal is witht he signs.

Is El Taco a business? I thought it was just overflow parking for Casablanca (the pagota) up the street.

Darn - This is one of my favorite places. No more Taco Burgers and Meat Burritos for me I guess.

Not sure this is the correct thread, but has anyone heard about Wachovia Bank’s ‘Hispanic Bundle?’ Something about giving hispanics a $500.00-$1000 deposit when they opened a checking/savings account. Wachovia does not offer this to non-hispanics.

    Hey Anon 2:51pm –

Nothing racist about El Taco. Their food gives every ethnicity the trots!!

Bob Sentz - NO SSN REQUIRED at Wachovia Banks - JUST SHOW YOUR MEXICAN ISSUED ID CARD YOU GOT AFTER YOU ILLEGALLY ENTERED THE U.S.A.

    IDENTIFICATION CARD CONSULAR MATRICULATION MEXICANA

    ————————————————————————-

In some states of EE.UU., like Florida, Texas, New York and Georgia, the banks accept the Mexican consular matriculation like alternative means of identification.

The consular matriculation is an emitted, controlled official document, promoted and distributed by the 47 consulates of Mexico in EE.UU. the Mexican immigrants they can Solely ask for this document.

In order to obtain more details about the requirements to present/display its request, one communicates closest with the Mexican consulate in its locality.

These are the documents passed out by the hundreds by the consulate back in the spring at NOVA on the Manassas campus. Anyone up for a FOIA request?

I will have you impertinent squirts know that El Taco has been serving cold beer, taco burgers, and the like for at least thirty-five years…I should know, because one of my first jobs was actually frying tacos in the back room on a device that looks just like a paddle wheel…and yes, the food tasted delicious and greasy back then.

Of course, that was at the original El Taco site at the other end of their lot…right about where these signs are!

so lay off…this restaurant has been ensuring clean digestions for PWCo residents for generations!

Sometimes, when I run out of cat food this is where I take Mr. Bigglesworth
’til PetSmart opens in the morning.

I thought El Taco was owned by a Jewish family. Seriously. That’s what I heard.

Anyway, I don’t think the signs were on their property. I wouldn’t call it racist, but I find this joke in questionable taste, especially if the owners, as I understand it, are not Latino.

  16. Gern said on 4 Oct 2007 at 8:35 pm:

Man, don’t diss El Taco. California burritos are your friend!

I’m sorry to have taken this discussion “down the toilet,” but when certain people want to raise a racial issue where there isn’t one, then it’s time tp use a little levity to highlight such the absurdity of bringing in race as an issue.

Your right, the depiction of a Hispanic business is just a coincidence and I am sure Greg spoke to the owners to ensure his comment about them endorsing these people is true. When will Greg be posting pictures of non Hispanic business with political signs out front?

  19. One Voice said on 5 Oct 2007 at 7:53 am:

What is the point of this photo? It is clear that these are on another lot. There are countries in the world where there are no elections and only one opinion counts. I don’t think you have to sneak in there. They welcome folks. Bring a warm coat.

  20. redawn said on 5 Oct 2007 at 8:17 am:

I will still go and get some taco burgers, every now and then.
The only thing that has changed for the worst is the chili ( bowl of nasty grease).
I would see a reason for this thread IF it were during the BOYCOTT and they had the green sign posted. I still don’t see the big deal of the signs.

  21. One Voice said on 5 Oct 2007 at 8:24 am:

So will my husband. I can’t take spicy food. This is just silly! If it were under Humor/Satire it would be appropriate. To put it under 29th VA Senate just lessens creditability.

    One Voice,
    Agreed :)

I worked in a Mexican Restaurant 25 years ago. Once in a while an elementary school or middle school would have a “field trip” for their Spanish class to have lunch at the restaurant. The kids would order in Spanish and nobody could understand them.

Now you order in English and nobody can understand you.

    How things have changed.

  24. Bwana said on 5 Oct 2007 at 10:08 am:

Anon 8:10-It was originally owned by a Jewish family…but I think they sold it in the last five years. I want to say the owner was Steve Bernstein, and he was there about all the time…and I have not seen him there in several years.

  25. redawn said on 5 Oct 2007 at 1:03 pm:

    Bwana,
Did they ever serve beer? I don’t recall, I knew they served root beer. Both El taco’s where the place to be. Do you remember the juke box? hah! hah!

  26. Bob Sentz said on 5 Oct 2007 at 1:20 pm:

El Taco was sold to new owners of hispanic origin by Terry Craniford and Associates.

  27. josh said on 5 Oct 2007 at 7:18 pm:

I went to this place when I first transferred to this area a few years back. The food tasted pretty decent, but it twisted my stomach in knots like nothing ever did and I have a pretty cast-iron gut.

My wife experienced the same thing. I felt flashbacks of eating taco’s from street vendors in Tijuana :)

  28. sam said on 6 Oct 2007 at 11:45 am:

The owners are hispanic, not that that matters, and the signs are on their lot. That is one lot, not two.

  29. pundit-106 said on 6 Oct 2007 at 10:09 pm:

Typically business owners don’t endorse candidates in an election unless there is a personal tie to the endorsed. They risk losing business as a result. I don’t think this will affect this establishment as it has been a beacon of light for “coch a roaches” in the Manassas Park area since I can remember. I sure will miss tho California burritos.
