My friend said they just had barely enough to get by. They had three children and lived in a tiny house in Woodbridge at the time. If he is deployed to a combat zone, he also receives $100 per month in hardship duty pay, $225 in imminent danger/hostile fire pay, and $250 in family separation pay--for a total of $3127 (TAX FREE!!!!) per month...this is, of course, in addition to the "rent free and utility payment free" housing his spouse and children are occupying. His family could choose to live off base and receive a housing allowance, which varies by area. If he was stationed in this area, his housing allowance would be an aditional $1326 per month...
