The Police Horse Around

Sure, everyone including the Manassas Urinal-Massager loves to see mounted police officers. What the Urinal-Massager and most everyone else seems to be missing here is why it’s such a high priority to have a ten (yes, it’s ten and not four) police officer unit that requires ten weeks of training per officer, plus additional expenses while there are other pressing needs. While we’re hearing about how many other important priorities for the Police Department can’t be started without additional funding, we somehow are able to find a way to train and equip ten officers for this without having the Police Department go back and beg the Board of County Supervisors for more money.
Sure, a lot of the equipment was purchased with money from seizures of property used in the illegal drug trade, but we might well have used those resources for other, and likely more important priorities. After all, how many crimes have been solved or arrests made by this unit? The article mentions none. If there’s any measurable contribution by this unit to public safety, it hasn’t been demonstrated yet, and it’s not like we don’t have public safety problems that need to be addressed in the county.
Nice of the local paper to entirely miss out on the idea of asking questions about this, opting instead to inform readers about how children like to see animals. Yeah, that’s news.
Note: someone had floated the idea to me that in exchange for photographic evidence of the widely-rumored sign in Mexico urging people to come to Manassas I might lay off the equestrian unit. I’m still open to that, but until I get that picture in my inbox, I’ll talk about this whenever it’s relevant to what’s going on. With the ongoing debate over funding illegal alien initiatives, which would result in measurable improvements in public safety, I imagine this is going to be relevant pretty frequently.

Where are these horses? I have not seen one.
ALSO, I am glad to see that you mention that there is a supposed sign somewhere, you say Mexico, I hear El Salvador- that encourage people to come to Manassas. I have not seen in my research for this to be true, however, that is a needle in a hay stack search if I do not have the right region.
They are going to need that horse unit when the citizens revolt over this issue in the next few years if action isn’t taken soon. I was watching foxnews interview hillarah clinton’s campaign advisor tonight who happens to be the granddaughter of a Mexican immigrant who came across the border twice illegally before being granted a visa and she was going on about how immigrants make the nation strong. Of course not a peep about the adjective in front of the noun of course (illegal). Hillarah will give all 20 million of them (and this is being conservative as it is my belief that there are 50 million or more in reality) amnesty. This woman will usher in civil war 2. God help us if she is ever elected, because the wrath of Khan will come down on the Christian white male.
Why would a picture change your opinion? I don’t get it.
[Ed note: I’ll make a deal for that information. I’ve been hearing about this for years, but have never been able to find proof.]
While the media are busy talking about the pretty ponies and bashing Bush/Republicans/the war how many articles have you seen about the near civil war in mexico?
As they remind us almost daily of the death toll in Iraq, how many articles have we seen about the 2000 deaths from the drug gangs in ONE STATE in mexico.
but of course all the illegals coming to the US are the honest, hard working kind. Riiiiggghhhttttt.

Army-Drug Gang Shootout Leaves 15 Dead in Mexico

Army-Drug Gang Shootout Leaves 15 Dead in Mexico
A shootout between armed forces and drug smugglers in the Mexican city of Tampico on Friday left 15 people dead and 10 wounded in the north-eastern state of Tamaulipas, local media reported.
The Army raided the area inhabited by the criminals and seized 20 tons of cocaine, radio and online press reported. Tampico city is the home to the Gulf Cartel, one of the two most powerful Mexican drug gangs.
The clash between the soldiers and traffickers wasn’t immediately confirmed by the National Defense Ministry or the public prosecutor’s office.
The only official who mentioned the operation was none other than the Mexican President Felipe Calderon who talked about it in a speech in Ciudad Victoria. He was set to visit the town just a few hours after the raid took place.
“We have doubled the efforts to make the law prevail in Mexico with … actions and interventions like those that happened recently, I can say today (Friday), in the state of Tamaulipas,” Calderon said.
The drug-related violence has reached very high levels in the north-eastern Mexican state. At least 2,000 people have been killed this year alone in quarrels between the rival gangs.
Ninety percent of cocaine entering the US comes through Mexico so John Walters, the top White House official in charge of anti-drug efforts, was very pleased with the Mexican authorities and praised them for their efforts to fight the cartels that supply the white powder.
Since he began his term as Mexico’s president, Felipe Calderon sent about 30,000 troops and federal police across the country to deal with the drug gangs. Although this method was seen with skepticism at first, it seems to be the right path to follow.
The price of the white powder in 37 US cities rose since March and the purity of it has dropped by 11% over the same period showing that the traffickers are diluting their dwindling stocks to stretch it further and meet demand.
“After 25 years of cocaine coming into the United States, there has never been the kind of disruption of this magnitude for this long,” Mr Walters, who also released the figures above mentioned, said.
Our police are on horses, our sheriff is on the golf course, our county is getting more and more violent, what’s next?
MdMx - aren’t you glad it’s taking place in Mexico rather than here. Let’em shoot each other up, both with guns and drugs. I doubt that many of the illegals coming here, are drug smugglers. Sure, there are some, and some might be mules being used by the big guns back home.
You write about price going up and purity going down. Are you complaining or what? - We gripe about the drug smuggling into the US. If the US could do something about drug use in this country, there wouldn’t be any reason for smuggling. Surely it isn’t Mexico’s fault that the demand for drugs is so high here! - BTW, what does this have to do with police horses i Manassas? Is there a connection of some kind?
Actually, a fairly significant number of illegal aliens crossing our southern border pay off the coyotes who smuggle them across the border by being drug runner “mules” who will manpack bales of marijuana, cocaine or other illegal drugs. Even if many of these “mules” would presumably have no further dealings with drug runners, too many start out their experience in the United States precisely as drug smugglers.
Their experience in doing so does provide them with the connections necessary in order to continue to earning some pretty easy money, and it’s not out of the question that some continue to “do work American’s won’t do” such as this in order to earn money, which supposedly is the entire point of their coming to the United States. You’re quick to dismiss this, but it happens with alarming regularity.
Greg - Accepted! And I don’t dismiss what you are saying. I still maintain that it isn’t Mexico’s or any other contry’s fault that the drug use in the US is so high. It seems that Mexico is being blamed for this.
supply and demand
What I got from that article on the Police Horses is that every time they ride they are taken away from their regular jobs, so who does those tasks? Some one else has to fill in so the cost is not free. Who did their jobs when they were away from their assignments for ten weeks of training?
What is the overtime bill for this unit?
http://latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=41
Look at this Gem! We will definitely need horses! Take a look at the many many resolutions this organization is coming up with!!!!
http://www.wcvi.org/latino_congreso.html
An overview of this group Latino Congreso. Wow! I just cannot believe this nonsense!
I am so angry about this stuff.
I want to slaughter the pro-illegal crowd at the ballot box in November. Herndon style.
Greg, when is that HSM voter guide coming out? How many copies will we print? Will it be available softcopy online? I feel like printing up thousands and knocking on every door in the county.
It’s amusing to see how liberals twist arguments around to suit their preferred groups. Krutis blames the US for the drug problem (consumers of the drugs) and gives the manufacturers in Mexico (the preferred group of the politically correct) a free pass.
On guns, I’m sure Krutis places most of the blame on gun manufacturers and gives the free pass to criminals (the preferred group of the politically correct), who are the consumers of guns used illegally.
Krutis – do you support controlling gun violence by reducing the demand for guns as you do illegal drug consumption? How about reducing demand for guns by cracking down on criminal illegals and gang members? How about deportation of such people? Are you willing to place blame on Mexican drug producers as well as gun manufacturers?
(Anonymous 12:57) Re: sheriff on golf course /police on horses
Don’t forget the golf carts the deputies use to “patrol”. This
is part of the reason my friends and neighbors will cast our
votes for Dominguez. He is a real foot soldier….no need for
golf carts or horses! What a waste!
Chris Core is cleaning Gary Jacobsen’s pro-illegal alien clock right now on WMAL-630 AM.
Rick Bentley,
Please start your door knocking here in Woodbridge!!
You can contact me at kroyse@chrisroyse.com
Greg, are you saying drug dealing is work Americans won’t do?
Greg,
You make some good points about the costs associated with the Horse unit, but I can’t agree that this is a big waste of money. There are a lot of areas in the county that are better patroled by horses than officers on foot, and in vehicles, even those on mountain bikes. Take for instance the various homeless/illegal alien encampments in the woods off RT-1. Also, from the vantage point of a horse, officers can see into back-yards, see and hear things that would be missed from a patrol car. During large gatherings, like the MSF rally or concerts at Nissan mounted units can see over the crowd to spot problems. These are public safety benefits.
If we are going to make the argument that the horse unit is useless, then how do we justify the motorcycle unit? These are roadbound units primarily involved in traffic enforcement. Officer must go to special training, and to my understanding are exclusively dedicated to this duty. The vehicles are 100% roadbound, as you are not going to take one of these bikes up a dirt trail. So why couldn’t this job be done by officers in patrol cars?
ICE should attend any event that MSF attends. Why? Because their organizational name could indicate “probable cause”. Based on the organizational name, one can conclude that there is a high probability that anyone associated with a group who’s name is “Mexicans without Borders” either aids and abets illegal aliens (a crime) and/or illegal aliens may be present as part of that group.
Gone Fishing
The first time I asked a Deputy about the golf carts I was told they’d be used to help transport the elderly, ill, etc. Funny thing is I’ve yet to see a single person riding on the back.(I go to the courthouse everyday). The golf cart was also at the PWC Fair.
There are more and more Dominguez signs popping up in WestGate/Sudley. I for one am pleased to see them, and this includes the one in my yard too!
Are you a retired PWC deputy by any chance? I really like your comments with regards to the Sherrif and his department.
Lafayette -
RE: the use of the golf cart by the Sheriff’s office - I too go to the courthouse everyday, as I work there. As a Victim Advocate attending court, I have called on the golf cart numerous times to transport elderly, handicapped and injured victims. With the parking situtiation being so tough (available parking is often all the way over by the old courthouse - you should know this if you go there everyday), the handicapped spots are often taken by the time my victims get there. I know seeing the golf carts may be frustrating to some but I assure you, if you talk to the people that have used them, you will get a different opinion.
From what I understand, Dominguez wants to relocate the Courthouse Complex to the other side of the county. What will this cost the taxpayers?
Better get to know youir Candidate Louis Dominguez.
Hill has cleaned up the Sheriff Dept. and made it more efficient.
Louis is a back slapping friend of Stoffregen and we can’t afford that type of politics here.
E-Mail Louis sent “2/27/03–To many frills in the County,Everything should be cut to the bone.”
“2/27/03 6.5 percent raise to County Employees. He says thats outrageous. It should be a Pay Cut.”??? Wow
“He says we don’t need anymore cops. Need to use what we have.”
This tells me Louis is cut from the same thread as Stoffregen.
Dominguez will say anything to get elected ,so watch his double talk.
We do not have any of the selling of the badges and one has to remember Louis was all part and friendly to this taking place.
Hill also does not need lessons on how to talk,he comes acrosss very clear and honest.
So check him out before you vote.
No, Lafayette, I am not a retired deputy or any branch of
law enforcement, but I like to know what is going on with
that department as well as the PWCPD for it’s my belief that
unless we keep tabs on these people (and the BOCS) we are
uninformed as to the corruption which goes on. You’d be
shocked at some of the things I’ve heard from some deputies.
As for transporting the elderly, ill, etc., it would seem that
there would be more handicap parking spaces available for
those who need them. I guess the sheriff and his staff need
the space more than the elderly, right?
It’s good to know that Dominguez has his signs out there!
His plans for the take-over as sheriff are very viable and the
more I hear, the more convinced I am that he is the right one
for that office.
I’d rather see a cop on horseback than sitting in his squad car.
“His plans for the take-over as sheriff are very viable and the
more I hear, the more convinced I am that he is the right one
for that office.”
You mean his plan to get about 30% of the vote? That plan doesn’t seem viable to me.
To Gone Fishing,
You haven’t the slightest idea as to what Hill has done or not done.
You are slaming because you are buddy, buddy of Stoffregen. Most all who support Stoffy, have had a free deputy badge by giving him a donation. Then they could go and do what they wanted. Even to this day they have not turned them in and everyonce in awhile the Police catch them flashing a Badge when they were to turn it in.
Compare the names for those who support Dominguez and those that was with Stoffy. They are all the same.
Stoffy will never get over that he lost to HILL . And he’s out for revenge ,any way he can get it.
So be careful.
Miss T,
I’m usually going to the courthouse in middle of the day, and parking yes is tough even at that time of day. I only spoke for what I saw, and I certainly don’t think the golf carts have NEVER been used for the above mentioned reasons. I’m thankful for your comments regarding the golf carts. Again, I was only speaking for what I had seen, and I should’ve been clear about the time of day I usually go there.
We both now the Courthouse has had a much needed expansion. The reality is the Courthouse isn’t going to be moved in time soon. If our PWCBOS, is waffling on funding for Stirrup’s resolution, I’m sure they wouldn’t allow the move. We need the resolution. I agree, we don’t need the Courthouse moved. Manassas has been the county seat for a very long time now.
Fed Up 2,
I do know Luis, and have my whole life. I’ve talked to Sherrif Hill, and in MY opinion he comes off as anything but honest. Cleaned up the Sherrif’s Dept. you say. How cleaned up does this sound to you? I was on the elevator last week with two deputies(on duty and in their uniforms). The were so busy talking all this trash talk about their weekend, and all the while using profanity. This is not MY idea of cleaned up. It really made me sick to that we are paying people like this, and they are represting my native county. I don’t think so. I was raised in a very Democratic neighborhood. I do NOT belong to the Republican or the Democratic party, and nor would I. We should all register as Independents as it’s been mentioned before on bvbl.
The more you educate yourself about Louis Dominguez the more you will like him. He has a plan to help the community and the people of Prince William, which is more then anyone can say about Glendell “Do-Nothing” Hill.
People like to talk about change but the do very little about it. They vote for the same people over and over again and change never takes place and the wonder why.
If you want a change you have a chance to do it in November.
Gone Fishing,
I agree completely we must keep tabs on these on folks. We also, have to inspect the Property Code Inspectors here in WestGate.
I doubt the things you’ve heard would shock me.
I’m glad you mention the Sherrif and staff needing those spaces. Before, Sherrif Hill came into office, you could park on both sides of Rt. 28 unrestricted. Most of that parking is now by permit only. Why not make some of those spaces handicapped?
Anon @ 12:15
Thank you, and I agree.
(Fed Up 2), I respect your opinion even if I disagree with you.
I do not know “Stoffy” personally, so how can you say that
I am his “buddy”? Neither am I am a buddy of Dominguez,
but I believe him to be an honest and ethical person.
Beyond being a horse’s ass, what does Lou Domingez have to do with the subject of this post?
I believe it was about the PWCPD Mounted Unit.
(Fed Up 2), and BTW…Dominguez didn’t “buy” a badge from
anybody. He was invited by Wilson Garrison to become a
volunteer deputy. He earned his badge by going to the academy (which in itself is fairly remarkable, considering he
was 62 at the time) and accomplished what some 20 year olds
fail to do. He did not contribute a dime to the Stoffregen
campaign, in fact he left PWCSO to get away from the politics
going on there.
When I questioned Dominguez about moving the courthouse,
he stated that the only reason he brought it up was to make
people more aware of the security needed there.
Dominguez has worked his tail off for this county for the past
40 years and he certainly has earned my vote!
Just the Facts 9:50 am - Again, I ask: Would there be drug manufacturers in Mexico selling and smuggling to the US if there were no drug users in the US? Why would they manufacture something that they couldn’t sell? Again, it is NOT Mexico’s or any other country’s fault that drugs are being used in the US. That kind of blame game is illogical!
I have no opinion re guns. Many people like to have guns and have the right to do so with licensing. I don’t see that the manufacturers could be held responsible for what happens after they sell them, IF THEY ARE SOLD TO LEGITIMATE DEALERS that is. I don’t own a gun but was on my hi school’s rifle team back in the dark ages, and I like target shooting like I do darts. My forte is tabletennis.
Krutis said on 8 Oct 2007 at 5:53 pm:
“and have the right to do so with licensing.”
Incorrect. Virginia, being a free state, has no “gun licensing”.
Legally owned property may be sold at will without the consent of the state. Federal law governs sales of firearms between residents of different states.
Far too much “infringement” already for a right that “shall not be infringed.”
“As for transporting the elderly, ill, etc., it would seem that
there would be more handicap parking spaces available for
those who need them. I guess the sheriff and his staff need
the space more than the elderly, right?”
Perhaps, Gone Fishing, those parking spaces at the Courthouse are filled by illegal aliens. A logical assumption, considering that lot is shared by the Health Department.
mnd - As I said, I don’t own a gun so don’t know the ins and outs of ownership. I have heard about PERMITS TO CARRY CONCEALED GUNS. Maybe that’s different from licensing. Personally, though, I’d rather know whether a person is carrying a gun. You know the old Wild West way with a big holster on his hip John Wayne style. At least I’d know to stay away.
Virginia is a free state, you say. Does that mean that I can just go into any gun shop and buy whatever weapon I want and as many as I want without signing any kind of paper that shows that I made the purchase, and that weapon could never be traced back to me, say, if it were stolen and used in a crime?
Maybe you can steer me to a site where I can read up of this.
“Does that mean that I can just go into any gun shop and buy whatever weapon I want and as many as I want without signing any kind of paper that shows that I made the purchase, and that weapon could never be traced back to me, say, if it were stolen and used in a crime? ”
Krutis, you biscuit-head, you can’t even buy a car without “signing any kind of paper”. There’s always a “bill of sale” tilte transfer etc. Try buying a house without signing something. However, there doesn’t have to be any paperwork if two private individuals, who are both legally able to own a firearm (reached the proper age, neither being convicted felons, neither having been ajudicated mentally deficient), want to transact. A wise buyer and seller would draw up a bill of sale with the gun’s serial number on it.
“Maybe you can steer me to a site where I can read up of this.”
Try looking at the Virginia State Code online.

Excellent point regarding the Health Dept. You should see that place on Thursdays. The “free clinic” opens at 6pm, and the “patients” start waiting outside in any kind of weather as early as 11AM. The Health Dept is busy the other days too. Thursday is the busiest.
