It’s Ham Sandwich Time

By Greg L | 13 October 2007 | Crime, Prince William County | 24 Comments

Riley points out today that Ham Sandwich would be a far preferable alternative as Commonwealth’s Attorney than Paul Ebert, who decided to again abuse his official powers yesterday, this time by appointing a special investigator to investigate a matter where no specific violation of the law has been alleged.

Once again, Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney Paul Ebert shows why Ham Sandwich would be superior to him.

Once again, Paul Ebert has delved into using his prosecutor’s office for political purposes and the threat of investigation and prosecution as a weapon of intimidation.

Here’s a list of things that I know Ham Sandwich isn’t capable of:

Halt the investigation into the felony assault committed by his son on a Prince William County Police Officer where he beat the officer so badly it knocked the officer’s eyeball out of his skull and required a month’s hospitalization for him in order to recover.

Tell a citizen that if he came to his office again in order to request assistance in regards to official government corruption, when he had documented proof to substantiate his claims, that he would have him arrested if he ever returned.

Sabotage an election fraud investigation by assigning the lead investigator in that investigation a task that would take him out of town on the day of the hearing on that investigation.

Allow the release of a violent criminal from jail so that he could participate as a confidential informant before his trial, who had slit the throat of his ex-girlfriend, and never notified the victim that her previous attacker was to be released.

Yesterday’s abuse of power isn’t an anomaly for Paul Ebert, it’s his consistent pattern of behavior.

“this time by appointing a special investigator to investigate a matter where no specific violation of the law has been alleged.”

That’s the whole point, Greg — to make sure the law has not been violated.

Mr. Ebert’s wife passed away a long time ago from a heart attack. Mr. Ebert raised his children alone. As for letting criminals out, that is normally on the judges’ shoulders.

Here you go, Greg. Your hero is once again without a leg to stand on, so you’re attacking the messinger. Another great move from the Karl Rove playbook.

Anonymous–YOU’RE the one attacking the messinger. Can we have the facts, please? (Whether you like them or not)

Who the hell is this storied “messinger” anyway? And what has he been messing with?

(Sorry, couldn’t resist after two messings in a row.)

“Mr. Ebert raised his children alone.”
Well obviously he did one bang up job of raising his kids if one managed the beat up a police officer.

There comes a point in time when “children” develop a mind of their own. Parents can instill the best possible values in the child, yet the child can still do something stupid. In this case, you are referring to an adult child. Mr. Ebert has gotten every death sentence he has asked for.

And in each of those cases, Ham Sandwich could have gotten the death sentence as well.

Exactly how do we write in the best candidate “Ham” on the electronic voting machines?

    ddpdrinker –

What in the heck are you babbling about? Ebert had an adult family member who committeed a violent felony on an off duty police officer (that was my sister’s housemate at the time….and yes…he was hit so hard by Pete Ebert that his eyeball came out of its socket). Ebert stood in the way of a proper investigation and appropriate charges (yes there’s a legal term for that I won’t use here). Case closed.

Knock off the poor potty training bunk…it has no relevance here. You want me to ask my sister if she still has photos of the policeman’s eye or what was left of it, so you can be shocked back into reality from whatever planet you’re on right now?

The Ebert clan sounds a little like the Moran clan. They make their own rules and laws.

Was Ebert’s son convicted of the charge or was the case dropped?

    It was dropped.

I am not saying that what all happened was right, not by a long shot. I was appalled by it also. I’ve had contact with the son and there is no love-lost. All I was saying is that no matter how well we try to raise our kids, sometimes they screw up.

What does the term “poor potty training bunk” mean?

Why was the Ebert son case dropped?

The ‘eyeball’ story is at least 20 years old and the entire story needs to be told if it is going to be resurrected. I, for one, am very tired of this story being used for political commentary. An off-duty cop with a reckless reputation, working as a bouncer in downtown bar, and a kid who had too much to drink and lots of witnesses hardly makes for a hot political tale of intrigue years later. I know and like both major players involved. The story should be put to rest.

“Exactly how do we write in the best candidate “Ham” on the electronic voting machines?”

It’s actually very simple and straightforward Legal2, if I recall (I’ve utilized the format since they were introduced)…even more so than the old machines, which surprised me. I was intimidated by those new machines at first so I simply asked one of the election officials and they were very helpful.

At this point I think Ham’s only real opponent in the election is the average citizens unfamiliarity with write in voting. Good post Greg.

The story I heard is that they found her at the bottom of the stairs with a broken neck.
