Only One More Vote Needed On Crackdown

By Greg L | 15 October 2007 | Illegal Aliens, Prince William County | 82 Comments

Tomorrow the Board of County Supervisors is expected to decide whether to adopt the staff’s recommended list of county services that will no longer be provided to illegal aliens, and the level of funding it will provide to the Prince William County Police Department to implement General Order 45.01 which will permit law enforcement to check the immigration status of all suspected illegal aliens. So far, there are four Supervisors who have said that they will support both of these measures: Stewart, Stirrup, Covington and May. The remainder have not indicated how they intend to vote.

Readers should contact Supervisors Jenkins, Barg, Nohe and Caddigan and ask them the following:

Do you intend to support a proposal to provide the necessary resources to the Prince William County Police Department that will allow them to investigate the immigration status of suspected illegal aliens who are suspected of committing an offense or violating a law in Prince William County?

Do you intend to support restricting the provision of some taxpayer-funded county services to citizens and legal residents only, especially in those cases where illegal aliens are receiving benefits while our citizens are on a wait list for those same services?

You can email all of the supervisors at bocs@pwcgov.org, and/or contact contact them at these phone numbers:

Corey Stewart: 703-792-4640
Wally Covington: 703-792-6190
Marty Nohe: 703-792-4620
Maureen Caddigan: 703-792-4645
John Stirrup: 703-792-6195
John Jenkins: 703-792-4668
Mike May: 703-792-4643
Hilda Barg: 703-792-4646

While you’re at it, it’s a good idea to thank those who are supporting these measures that will discourage illegal aliens from unlawfully residing in our communities, and pledge your continuing support for their important efforts to defend the interests of county citizens.

UPDATE: According to Jim Riley, we have our fifth vote, Maureen Caddigan.  Now that there’s a majority, this is going to slide pretty quickly towards a unanimous vote.

Well, the vote can’t (shouldn’t?) really result in a tie, in this case anyway since there are 4 supervisors who have already said they would vote yes -Stewart, Stirrup, Covington and May. If the remaining supervisors Jenkins, Brag, and Caddigan all vote no, the issue is dead. However if only one of them votes yes, the measure passes. I think it’s a good bet the measure will pass - assuming Covington and May don’t change their mind tomorrow.

Even though I reside in Manassas, I plan on attending citizen’s time at 2:00p tomorrow. Whatever happens in PWC will greatly determine what will eventually or not eventually happen in the MC and MP. My HSM sticker will be pinned on (even though it looks a little worn).

    question:

Since the Puerto Rican “education and defense fund” has already filed suit in the federal court, if this resolution passes and a judge puts the implementation on hold, does the portion of the resolution where the police are going to work with ice and do further checks when they stop someone for cause and then suspect they are in the country illegally get put on hold too or are they two seperate initiatives?

    k.o’toole,
You are exactly right!! We the legal voting citizens WANT and DESERVE the resolution!! Let’s restore the quality of life and The Rule of Law.
    PWCBOS,
Do the right thing!! All of you need to vote YES. Remember, each and everyone of you voted for the resolution. We must continue to lead our great nation!!! The “power of 8″, not that “power of 5″ bull we heard last Tuesday.

You bring up a very good point citizens in the two cities should certainly care!! They sit in the county!! You all have every right to speak there. We have to listen to the opposition speak, and they come in from Arlington, Alexandria, and DC!! They have no interest in our county or two cities. Be sure and get a new sticker tomorrow!!

Sent an email to the PWC Board this morning and received a reply from Corey Stewart. His email again affirms that only 4 members of the Board are committed to passage of the resolution. He requests that as many as possible come to the meeting to speak on behalf of its passage.

    Maureen Wood:
The Fox News Channel reported last week that several counties in NY would refuse to issue licenses to illegals regardless of the consequences. Good for them. It might be that not all elected officials are hearing impaired.

From my interpretation of C. Stewart’s email, it is possible that a vote could be postponed. See below, an excerpt of his email:

“In my view, the community is already paying for the cost of illegal immigration in terms of crowded schools, emergency rooms, jails and rising gang violence. I have insisted that the Board vote on this no later than October 16. This is the last meeting before the election on November 6, and it is imperative that the Board vote before the election to avoid losing momentum.”

Anyone give any thought why Guv Spitzer of NY would want to pull off something as crazy as giving licenses to illegals. As attorney general of NY he made his name prosecuting securities fraud. This got him a known name when he ran for Governor. Don’t you think he is looking at Hillary’s senate seat if she does manage to get elected next November. Spitzer is pandering for the illegal vote plain and simple. Given a driver’s license will get them in to register. A no-brainer!

Politically, they cannot put off the vote. Considering the funding issues facing the County as articlulated by the Finance Manager (see Friday’s Potomac News), they could pass the resolution, limit services and and fund additional officers for this year. Then the addtinoal officers could be funded each year as part of the regular budget process. That would allow this to kick off without a five year funding commitment at this time.

That’s what I would do. It would give them time to figure out what the real estate market is doing - that is unless you also agree that County staff don’t understand principles of budgeting, revenue forcasting, debt service and AAA bond ratings.

It would be a miracle to keep the bond rating during this mess.

This is what a lot of people are talking about and the POINT is and has been getting lost in ways of zoning violations, who is in bed with who politically, who is real and not real.

    Well, This DAY WAS REAL!

Does anyone remember? Is it so long ago?

    # redawn said on 15 Oct 2007 at 6:53 pm:

It does not matter where you live, the ILLEGALS are here! They are everywhere! The REAL issue, not just local and where they reside is, WHO IS HERE? DOESN”T anyone remeber 9/11?
    I do!
I lived in Fauquier at the time. I was driving into the parking garage of The City of Alexanria’s courthouse to do my job.
I was listening to Elliot in the morning, DC101. The same old hum drum and drinking my coffee trying to get motivated. I hear all of a sudden 0 BREAKING NEWS…they converse, we here that there is a plane reported to have flown into the WTC. I just took my keys out of my ignition.
I head up the elevators to Circuit Court. The clerks have the tv on and are watching. WE ALL gather around the tv and the second plane hits!
WE are all dumbfounded in so many ways, wondering what the hell is going on. after awhile everyone leaves to go about their daily duty but still talking and were going to check in from time to time to keep updated. DOES THIS TELL YOU SOMETHING? THIS IS HOW we were back then, oh nothing TOO big is going on but we will keep posted and see…..I was one of them thinking so.
I found myself standing in front of the tv, no one else around and damn if they didn’t come back on and show that the Pentagon was hit!

I am speaking only from my experience…I stood there and thought am I REALLY SEEING THIS? I felt PANIC but was more worried about calling everyone to the TV to see for themselves and that it was MY
    Imagination.

Anyway, both land line and cellphones were DEAD!
Do you remember how that felt? The confusion? IS this real, it was early in the morning, asking yourself, AM I AWAKE? HOW do i get in touch with my family, friends, office?
I had a call come thru the clerks office from my office - THEY tried to get me, in case I didn’t know what was going on. I took the call and they said get the hell out of there but at the same time puzzled themselves as to what was going on.

I left with Ms. Lafayette, we work for different companies, but I remember she was there and we left following each other out of The city of Alexandria.
We had gotten on the hwy headed away back from the area towards Fairfax. All the while the cellphones and landlines are still dead and the radio stations ( ALL of them) were reporting different things, such as The Capital Building has been blown up, The white house has been blown up! There is a RUNAWAY PLANE ON THE POTOMAC!!!!!!
WE saw the smoke from the Pentagon!!!!!!!!!!!!
We lost each other on the highway and with NO communication between us ( cell phones) I headed to get my kids from school and the school was very silent and did not alarm the kids etc. they were just finding out by word of mouth as to what was going on….

ALL I ASK IS HAVE WE FORGOTTEN???????
WHY HAVE OUR BORDERS NOT BEEN SECURED? WHY ARE WE ARGUING ABOUT TRIVIAL BULL SNIT INSTEAD OF LOOKING AT THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION?????

THIS IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT. Does anyone remember how the air smelled and tasted different, The sky and clouds, looked different?

The feeling of being lucky FILLED WITH SUCH SORROW that you were alive and still wondering about your friends, family, neighbors? DAYS LATER???????

The acts of talking to your neighbors, the person at the store, etc….the feeling of everyone looking out for strangers and being protective, the pick up trucks flying the American flag around on the streets and highways, the bridges and overpasses with flags draped and signs hanging?
    Where is everyone now??????????????????????

redawn: pronounced Red Dawn ( I changed it on purpose)

The reason why I chose the screen name is because of the movie back in the 80’s. It was about a SMALL town being invaded ( middle of America, nowhere) and it really showed the American spirit and when NOT looking for trouble, trouble found them and they fought as best they could.

If that is the extent of your ability to counter the policy positions of HSM, Anon 12:53, I think HSM has pretty much won the battle. Just dismiss the largest grassroots organization in the county, which is larger than the combined chambers of commerce plus the combined Democratic and Republican party committees as a “bunch of haters”, and it’s pretty clear you can’t argue the points than HSM has raised.

As for the Hazleton ruling, what the county did was entirely a different tact than Hazleton, and it’s ridiculous to claim that what happened at Hazleton has any bearing on what Prince William is doing. Besides, Hazleton is very likely to win it’s case on appeal. That court doesn’t have the power to re-write the Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. Hazleton is going to go through a series of appeals, no doubt, and what is learned after that legal process is complete will do nothing but help localities to craft legislation to combat the problems associated with illegal immigration.

If Hazleton wins in the end, every locality that can will adopt similar measures. If they somehow lose, what is learned from the court’s decision will help ensure that what other localities will do is going to be legally defensible, as the eventual decisive opinion will likely provide a road map for localities to follow.

You may want localities to stop addressing this issue, but that’s not going to happen. The citizens have had enough, and one way or another they will find a means that the courts will allow to address these problems. It’s just a matter of time before definitive guidance from the courts on this issue will be established.

No matter how it turns out, illegals, you have already lost. The county’s residents are fed up with you and your entitlement mentality. And unfortunately, when the legal residents include themselves, they, too, make themselves unwelcome, like ungrateful guests. We are a country built on the rule of law. All the boycotting, striking, protesting and suing doesn’t endear you to us.

Hazelton differed from Manassas and how it was worded. Still, the people in Hazelton will get another day in court. The people of the US have spoken, are starting to speak and nothing will stop us now.

Hate? Yes, I suppose you may be correct, for we do indeed
hate and despise crime and the criminals who commit those
crimes. We also hate seeing crowds of drunks lying all over
lawns, amid their corolla bottles and trash (which never gets
cleaned up), over crowded schools which means catering to
your “anchors”, well, I could go on, but I think you get the
picture. Then, maybe not. You just don’t seem to get it…

Second time you get caught it is a felony and a Federal offense with up to 20 in prison as your “reward.”

A week-long operation in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area last month netted 34 people from Mexico, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Somalia with ties to street gangs, Keegan said. Five people are charged with state crimes, nine face federal charges for re-entering the USA after previous deportations, and four are permanent U.S. residents who have previous criminal convictions, he added.

Apparently you know nothing of the subject to which you speak. Without any of the proposals that Hazelton, PA wanted to institute being enacted, just the THREAT of them has caused a considerable exedos of illegals from that town just like what is happening in PWC. Just the threat of enforcement is scaring the bejezus of of the illegals and they are “hitting the road” and will continue to do so as more and more communities take up the fight. If you haven’t reserved your U-HAUL yet, you better hurry because they are getting scarce!

You know, Jesus had a great sense of humor and really liked to party. He’s probably laughing at what’s going on down here. I hope to have a beer with him some day. In fact he is neither Democrat or Republlican… he is a Libertarian.

He’s probably not laughing at what the BOCS is doing these days, though. You don’t have to go any further than the Beatitudes (which appear in both the New Testament and the Koran) to understand what is the right thing to do.

The “big guy” would tell you that none of this really matters because we are just passing through… and we should be nice to one another on the way. He would tell you not to worry about your property values… he would tell you to sell your house and give the money away. If you believe in Jesus and what he taught, don’t throw the illegals out, give one a hug, an old shirt, and perhaps a meal… and be particularly nice to the children. The “big guy” has a soft spot for kids and dogs.

I’m with Jesus on this one. Save your time if you think you can use anything he said to justify what’s going on in PWC.

    Hey Jesus was a Libertarian!
Take a walk down some of the more unsavory areas of PWC, MC, and MP after midnight and you’ll get to meet “the big guy” sooner than later. The gang issue is for real. And they don’t care what color you are or give a hoot for the Beatitudes. There are no passages in the New Testament (or probably the Koran) that say being stupid/irresponsible is next to Godliness.

Hey “Libertarian..”Jesus advocated the rule of law…OBEDIENCE…the resolution is about ENFORCING the law. What is so difficult about that? America has ALWAYS welcomed immigrants….LEGAL. ILLEGALS are lawbreakers, butting in line in front of those immigrants who are being OBEDIENT to the law by following the LEGAL procedures to become LEGAL citizens. Our communities have been trashed by the ILLEGALS. We must restore what once was a clean, peaceful, orderly county and eradicate the gangs (spawned by MS-13), and lawlessness of your ILLEGAL ALIEN bretheren.

Reference what Keokuk said on 16 Oct 2007 at 12:00 pm

    Keokuk,

Thanks for proving my point. I always wonder just what kind of people are wandering about the more unsavory areas of PWC, MC, and MP after midnight. You’re right, I won’t see you there. I guess I’m a coward as the gangs you refer to are the kind of people Jesus would have ministered to. He (and his disciples) didn’t mind being beaten for what they believed in.

I note your inference that I might be Muslim (your “or probably the Koran” comment). That would be incorrect. Just call me Reverend. I’m an ordained minister. That doesn’t make me smarter or better than anyone, it just means I spend more time thinking about the moral dimensions of what we do. I don’t mind being insulted. Who knows, I might be both stupid and irresponsible. It is kind of you to point out these possible flaws in my character from my clearly inflammatory note so that I may work on them. I’m sure you will find many more.

I’ll probably see you at the BOCS meeting. I don’t think I’ll wear a collar this time. It tends to imtimidate people.

    Blessed are the peacemakers…

    Jesus was a Libertarian.

You seem to read into my comment more than I meant. “Or probably the Koran” was to indicate that I’ve have never read it and can’t attest to its doctines, etc.

Stupid or irresponsible are citizens that don’t care or are apathetic to the good of the community. If gangs continue to flourish, society will be severely harmed.

Yes, and after 31 years working for a law enforcement agency, I got to be around some pretty unsavory people.

I’ll be there at 1:30 and why not wear a collar. I’ll make it point to meet you.

    Libertarian,

I think your Jesus is way too small. You must be what some folks call a “Red Letter” Christian, thinking that only the recorded, spoken words of Jesus are worth reading. Jesus is not only the meek and mild Savior, He is also the “Righteous Judge,” the One who comes to judge the nations. Boundaries are very, very important in God’s economy of things. If you read the ENTIRE Bible you would learn that God is the Lord of nations and that He is the One who actually set the nations’ boundaries. And, the Holy Scriptures actually instruct us to obey those in authority over us.

If the Christian God is going to be brought into our discussion of illegal immigration, let’s take the “whole counsel of God,” not just pick and choose the words that make us feel warm and fuzzy.
