The ERC Files Suit Against Manassas
By Greg L | 17 October 2007 | Manassas City | 5 Comments
The so-called “Equal Rights Center”, a taxpayer-supported public interest law firm that finances itself through extorting businesses and localities for hefty settlements, is telling the local media that they’ve file suit against the City of Manassas. The last I’d heard, this had been referred to the Department of Justice, and not much had been happening on it although something might have been expected from them this week.
The basis of the complaint has to do with an attempt by the city to deal with residential overcrowding by restricting the people who could legally occupy a house using the same standards currently employed by the Department of Defense for on-base housing. The city also set up an overcrowding hot line. Predictably, the majority of reports made on this hotline involved residences occupied by hispanics, and the ERC is claiming that this demonstrates unlawful discrimination.
The complaint hasn’t been made public, but when it is, I’m not expecting to find a whole lot in there that makes much sense.

These frantic efforts to contain and put out local brush fires expose their real fear … that sooner or later these issues will be placed on the doorstep of the Supreme Court.
Our emancipation is at stake.
it’s called ‘triangulation.’
couldn’t intimidate BOCS or PWC, so let’s go beat up on the EZ target and pre-empt any potential new found courage it may find.
this is what caving and being timid gets you from professional bullies and hysterics.
It’s all pretty much old news. There was/still is? an investigation ongoing about the whole overcrowding hotline thing. They are also planning a suit against Manassas City Schools for another batch of old news. A school employee who was fired from Round Elem. for embezzelment last year, happened to be the supervisor for the VA state triennial school census. She used information gathered thru the census to determine how many people lived in a home, and if she suspected a home was overcrowded, she told zoning. At no time did she have permission from the school system, and nobody knew she had done this. This act was discovered only after the investigation was begun as to the hotline issue. By the time what she did was discovered, she had already been fired and was headed to trial.
She should be tried for the embezelemtn charges, and given a cittizens award for the reports to zoning.
Time will come when these public interest lawfirms can’t sue any longer, as these cases get adjudicated.
Thing is…ooooops she gave zoning the names of the minor children living in the home w/out parental permission. So it comes down now to a violation of privacy.
