Congress Tries Another Amnesty Bill

By Greg L | 23 October 2007 | National Politics, Illegal Aliens | 61 Comments

Senate Majority Leader Reid (D-Nev.) has filed for “cloture” on S. 2205, and it’s time again to pile on our elected officials and make sure they know their constituents don’t care for the “DREAM act” amnesty bill that the illegal alien lobby is trying to ram through Congress.

PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS WEBB AND WARNER AND PLEAD THAT THEY VOTE ‘NO’ ON THE S. 2205 CLOTURE ON WEDNESDAY. The phone senate switchboard is (202) 224-3121.

Senator Reid is using the Rule 14 to avoid any committee debate, hearings or deliberations. Filing for cloture means that he can bring the amnesty up on Wednesday. The first vote will be on whether to allow the amnesty to come to the Senate floor for full debate and eventual vote. If we can hold the YES votes below 60, we can stop the bill in its tracks. We need 41 NO votes to guarantee killing it.

Here’s what this bad bill does:

Call Senators Warner and Webb today, and tell them to vote NO on cloture for S. 2205. For more information on this bill and what’s happening with it, visit NumbersUSA.

UPDATE: Open-borders Senators have decided to aid, abet and harbor a group of illegal aliens in our United States Capitol today by inviting illegal aliens to lobby our elected representatives in the Capitol. Sen. Durbin (D-Ill.), Sen. Lugar (R-Ind.) and Sen. Hagel (R-Neb.) invited Senators and their staffers to a meeting at 3 p.m. today so they can be briefed by “Several students who would benefit from the DREAM Act”. The DREAM act’s purpose is to bestow amnesty on illegal aliens, hence all of these students who stand to benefit from this law are by default illegal aliens.

The motion to proceed was withdrawn. From today’s Cong. Record:

DREAM Act–Cloture: Senate began consideration of the motion to proceed
to consideration of S. 2205, to authorize the cancellation of removal
and adjustment of status of certain alien students who are long-term
United States residents and who entered the United States as children.
    Page S13202
A motion was entered to close further debate on the motion to proceed
to consideration of the bill, and in accordance with the provisions of
Rule XXII of the Standing Rules of the Senate, a vote on cloture will
occur on Wednesday, October 24, 2007.
    Page S13202
Subsequently, the motion to proceed was withdrawn.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that they won’t introduce the cloture motion again soon, so calls never hurt.

NumbersUSA activist army stirring things up already — Don’t let up — Amnesty vote tomorrow

    AMNESTY UPDATE

Our early morning contacts with Senate staffers confirm what we told you at midnight:

Senate Majority Leader Reid (D-Nev.) is currently expected to bring the DREAM Act amnesty to a vote Wednesday morning.

Thanks to you, news of Sen. Reid’s late-night attempt to catch America off-guard with his latest amnesty maneuver is spreading across America.

You already have ordered 58,000 faxes into the Senate warning of this attempt.

And Talk Radio shows across the country are being alerted. If you have any contact with any Talk Radio or any newspaper, radio or TV journalist, please call them right now. At this moment, the NumbersUSA activist network is the only one spreading the news of Reid’s perfidy. That is a lot of responsibility that you carry.

Get this posted and picked up on every blog you know.

Most importantly, pick up a phone right now and make the call to your Senators requested in the midnight Alert (I’ve re-copied that Alert below).

Although the vote may happen tomorrow morning, the language of this particular DREAM Act amnesty is just now becoming known! No hearings, no committe discussion and, for the most part, not even any text!!!!

At first blush, we are estimating that this bill would grant amnesty to around 1.4 million illegal aliens between the age of 5 and 19, plus millions of illegal aliens who are between the age of 20 and 30. And that doesn’t even count the millions more who likely would be able to obtain amnesty through fraud.

THANKS FOR ALL YOU CAN DO THIS MORNING,

Another chain migration bill from Harry DUH Reid and his clone, Dapper Durbin. After the “green card” is obtained, then parents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles become elegible to come. Another sneaky attempt by the Dumbocrats to expand the invasion of this country. Call and call often as they used to say!

Senators invited to meet with illegal aliens this afternoon to persuade them to vote amnesty Wed.

    UPDATE

Open-borders Senators have plummeted to a new low in advocating amnesty by aiding, abetting and harboring a group of illegal aliens in our United States Capitol today!

Sen. Durbin (D-Ill.), Sen. Lugar (R-Ind.) and Sen. Hagel (R-Neb.) have invited Senators and their staffers to a meeting at 3 p.m. today to learn why they need to pass the DREAM Act amnesty on Wednesday.

Briefing the Senators in the Capitol will be:

“Several students who would benefit from the DREAM Act”

Angela Kelley, Director, Immigration Policy Center

Melissa Lazarin, Director of Education Policy, First Focus

Alfred Campos, Federal Lobbyist, National Education Association

Stephanie Grosser, Outreach & Program Coordinator, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society

Kevin Appleby, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops

In case that isn’t clear enough, anybody who “would benefit from the DREAM Act” is an illegal alien.

Should anybody in the world hold back from trying to come here illegally now that they see that illegal aliens can hang around our Capitol itself with no fear of arrest — and be embraced by our elected officials.

Last week, the Senate voted to protect Sanctuary Cities and their policies to shield illegal aliens. Today, some Senators apparently are declaring the Capitol an illegal-alien sanctuary!

We have now reached this point where the immigration lawlessness that has characterized the border for 20 years, that has suffocated our Southwestern states, south Florida and hundreds of neighborhoods across the country has now moved into the federal Capitol itself — invited by U.S. Senators!!!

If you think the champions of anarchy have gone too far this time, pick up a phone over lunch and call your two U.S. Senators and demand that they commit to vote NO on cloture tomorrow on S. 2205.

DREAM Act Offers Amnesty to 2.1 Million
New Estimate Shows Another 1.4 Million Family Members Could Also Stay

WASHINGTON (October 23, 2007) — The Senate is currently considering the DREAM Act (S.2205). Some have argued that only 60,000 illegal immigrants would be granted amnesty annually under the Act, but a new analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies of 2007 Census Bureau data shows millions of potential beneficiaries.

    # An estimated 800,000 illegal immigrants under age 17 have been here long enough to qualify for legalization under the DREAM Act. There are a total of 1.7 million illegal aliens estimated to be under age 17.

    # There are an estimated 900,000 parents of illegal aliens under age 17 who qualify. It is unclear whether the government would deport these parents.

    # The DREAM Act is also unclear as to what will happen to the siblings of legalized illegals who are themselves illegal, but do not meet the Act’s requirements. There are an estimated 500,000 of these siblings.

    # The DREAM Act also allows illegal aliens ages 18 to 29 to legalize if they claim to have arrived prior to age 16. We estimate 1.3 million meet this requirement. There are a total of 4.4 million illegal aliens in this age group.

    # Thus the total number of potential amnesty beneficiaries is 2.1 million (assuming no fraud). This does not include 1.4 million siblings and parents of qualifying illegals who may end up receiving a de facto amnesty.

    # Prior legalization programs have been plagued by fraud. One-fourth (700,000) of those legalized in the 1986 amnesty are estimated to have done so fraudulently.

    # Given the difficultly in determining whether an applicant meets the DREAM Act’s amnesty requirements, coupled with the overworked nature of the immigration bureaucracy, fraud could be a significant problem.

Methodology: These estimates are based on a Center for Immigration Studies analysis of the March 2007 Current Population Survey (CPS) collected by the Census Bureau. No estimate is definitive, of course, but the Urban Institute, the Pew Hispanic Center, and the INS have all used the March CPS to estimate the size of the illegal population. We estimated that the survey included more than 11 million illegals in 2007. This is entirely consistent with prior research. The above numbers do NOT include those illegal aliens missed by the Census Bureau’s survey. The Department of Homeland Security and other researchers have estimated that 10 percent of illegals are likely missed in Census Bureau surveys of this kind. Thus, the actual number of potential beneficiaries is almost certainly higher than the numbers discussed above.

We use the demographic characteristics of respondents to distinguish legal and illegal immigrants in the survey. We combine this with the estimated number of legal immigrants in the country. This method is based on some very well-established facts about the characteristics of the legal and illegal population and is consistent with other research that employs the same approach to estimate the illegal population.

    UPDATE

Interestingly, both the leaders of the pro-amnesty side and the leaders of the anti-amnesty side of the Senate are saying they don’t think they have the votes to win tomorrow.

That means the amnesty vote tomorrow morning is totally up in the air.

Thanks for sending 34,058 faxes in the previous four hours alone.

TARGET THESE DEMOCRATIC SENATORS UP FOR RE-ELECTION NEXT YEAR

Our success tomorrow probably depends on your ability to convince at least seven Democrats to vote NO on cloture on S. 2205 (the DREAM Act Amnesty).

Our “whipping” of vote counts tells us that we are perhaps as strong as we’ve ever been at this point among Republican Senators. But there are at least 20 Republicans who are pledged to vote YES or on the fence. I believe that several of these Republicans will be far more likely to vote NO if they see several Democrats voting NO, too.

It may be a situation where the Democrats bring a kind of 1-for-1 match in which each Democrat who votes NO will cause one Republican to vote NO.

Here are the Democrats who are up for re-election next year:

    Baucus (D-MT)
    Biden (D-DE)
    Durbin (D-IL)

    Harkin (D-IA)
    Johnson (D-SD)

HELP THE ANTI-AMNESTY DEMOCRATS OF LAST JUNE STICK WITH THEIR PRINCIPLES IN OCTOBER

The Washington Post had a story today quoting Democratic strategists as saying that Democrats who don’t take seriously Americans’ disgust with illegal immigration are in for some rude awakenings during next year’s elections. Especially if you are a Democrat or and Independent, you may want to try to convey this in your phone call.

I think it would be a great idea for Ricky S to attend Durbin’s Dream Act event on Capitol Hill. From Tom Tancredo’s press release:

    http://tancredo.house.gov/PRArticle.aspx?NewsID=1321

( WASHINGTON, D.C. ) – Representative Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) today released a statement regarding an event Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) reportedly plans to hold in conjunction with discussion of the DREAM ACT – an event that will be attended by several illegal aliens.

“I call on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency to detain any illegal aliens at this press conference. Just because these illegal aliens are being used for political gain doesn’t mean they get immunity from the law.”

“If we can’t enforce our laws inside the building where American laws are made, where can we enforce them?”

Tancredo alerted the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency earlier today regarding Durbin’s 3:00 PM meeting.

So Tancredo is being silly. Big surprise. This kind of statement is quite easy when you know there isn’t a chance in hell ICE would interfere with a Senator’s press conference.

ManassasCityResident, I used silly in the sense of absurd. It is genuinely absurd to think ICE would ever arrest people invited by a US Senator to a press conference. It is a publicity stunt for a presidential candidate whose candidacy is sunk. The fact that it makes you so breathlessly extol his alleged political virility doesn’t make it any less of a stunt.

Ya know what is even MORE disturbing to me than the issue of illegal aliens in our country?

It’s the fact that we have Senators and Representatives who 1) do NOT know, and presumably do not care enough to find out what their constituents want 2) if they DO find out what the citizens want, they play the “oh well, maybe” bit….and come back again later with basically the same flippin’ deal.

What has our representative democracy come to? :(

Booting a ton of incumbents out will shake things up in there believe me. These guys are so used to Americans not giving a crap about anything and taking bribes from companies for preferential treatment that they are useless to us now. We need to kick out 5 or 10 of them in the next election and replace them and then maybe the rest of them will fall in line. That is if the votes even are legit any more these days. With illegals voting and electronic voting machines that anyone with resources can manipulate who’s to know whether or not the votes are even real any more…

Right, monticup, Leila is too rigid and concrete in her thinking. The real point Tancredo is making is that ICE should go where they know the illegals are, MSM and Woodbridge Workers Committee events, day labor centers at 7-11s and government sponsored sites, CASA of Maryland, Prince William County BOS forums, wherever they know the illegals will be. It’s fine to raid poultry and packing plants, but those aren’t the only places that illegals work. They are easy to find, yet ICE does not go where they are.

SEC. 7. STAY OF REMOVAL OF CERTAIN ALIENS ENROLLED IN PRIMARY OR SECONDARY SCHOOL.

    (a) Stay of Removal- The Attorney General shall stay the removal proceedings of any alien who–

    (1) meets all the requirements of subparagraphs (A), (B), (C), (E), and (F) of section 3(a)(1);

    (2) is at least 12 years of age; and

Did everyone take note yesterday of the “show” our “leaders” in the Senate put on by parading illegal aliens in front of the cameras and supporting amnesty for them?. Bringing illegal alien lawbreakers into our nation’s capital building has all appearances of “aiding and abetting illegal aliens.” What else can you call it? Where was ICE and/or the national capital police? I’ll bet they did not go through the metal detectors either which everyone is required to do with the exception of our “leaders.” They are too “important” to have to waste their time going through security like the common citizen.

Good! It got voted down. We must continue to pay attention! Also, lets get on the e-mails to let Webb know he did not do the right thing! Now let’s concentrate on getting that AgJOBS voted down too! That is another amnesty Reid is trying to sneak by (see article I posted a while ago).

Now we have to have our elected officals vote NO on AgJOBS (the other amnesty).

Channel 5 did report at 10 pm last night that the suspect was Hispanic. This is an updated link from Channel 5.

I heard it would be a couple of days before a composite drawing is done. I hope to see that posted all over Loch Lomond, WestGate/Sudley, Yorkshire, Manassas Park and in the Point of Woods. These are all neighboring subdivisions.
    madmom,
I’m madmom2, on this one. This crap must come to an end. Enough is enough!!!
    Greg L,
Please, new thread for this horrific story!!

    Madmom & Lafayette,

This is my number one reason and concern with the bunk houses, that are advertised by PROPPED open storm doors. The nomadic following this brings to our neighborhoods. There are a lot of storm doors propped open around that neighborhood, drive and take a look for yourself.

I want to make the clear distinction, that we do not know if the perp was illegal or not as the description is vague and very little.

I just want to prove the point of the dangers of the people that let nomads in to rent a room for a night are contributing to the unsafe conditions of our children and community, they are also putting themselves at risk.

It can be ANYONE renting these rooms for the night. How do they know they are not rapist, people on the run for murder, etc.

You can’t judge a book by it’s cover and the people that would have to resort to finding a place to lay their head at night this way should be an indicator.

    Madmom,

There is a public website to check on cases. You will not be able to check juvenile and domestic cases online, you need to go to the courthouse.

    Lafayette,
You can bet I will be out with the composite drawing to every house on my street and on Alleghany. I need to find out the house number of the family involved so I do NOT knock on their door. I can’t imagine what they are going through.

If you’d like to join me, I’ll hit your neighborhood with you, too. Maybe we should put the drawing up on every telephone pole and every propped open storm door!!

    redawn,
Thanks for the information. I am trying to find out the name of the SOB who raped my friend and didn’t show up to court. (duh)

    Madmom,

To find out the name of someone who did that very, very horrid act against your friend ( my sympathies are with her) could have also used and aka, what are the chances with all this identity fraud that you can see clearly reported in our paper.

Also, I think that it is a great idea to walk and post the possible sketch of the suspect in and all around the neighborhoods. With that said, I hate to say, there are MORE and MORE of missing child posters etc., all over our area. That alone says something and it is NOT to be tolerated.
It could have been you, your child, like your friend, a family member…..

    Madmom,

He can be found because someone knows something. I was involved back in the late 70’s with the Irongate rape case of a 3 year old. The rapist was caught because of a tip given to police at a community meeting that the residents held. The police were there along with various community leaders. Hundreds of people showed up. No one likes rapists.

It took a great deal of work between police, a reporter from MJM, and the community, but the perp was found. What happened after that is another story for another day.

This story makes me as sick today as the one did many years ago.

Lafayette and Redawn both know how to contact me if I can help you with this problem.

It is imperative that we know who our neighbors are. We need to get the nomads out of here for the safety of our communities. I don’t really care about their status or ethnicity. I care that no one knows who they are or anything about them. We all might as well live next door to homeless shelters. This is a job that the BOCS needs to tackle immediately.

    Dolph,
I was young myself, and remember the Irongate rape case you mention. No one like rapists, indeed. Heck, murders in jail HATE rapists too!!
    madmom,
We will get that composite drawing up all over our neighborhoods. We already got redawn and dolph with us on this one. I’m sure there are several others that’d be willing to help us too. We will take our neighborhoods back.
The rapist is probably still right here in one of the above mentioned neighboring subdivision. Remember, the murder in the summer in Point of Woods, the murderer was found about a half a mile from crime scene. Police snagged him at the Sheetz, right next to the library and across from Parkside Middle.
We will get out there and work together for the good of our entire community.
    madmom,
Please, contact Greg L, and ask him to put you in touch with me. I’ll let him know you will be in touch(hopefully).
    Greg L,
Please, please we need a thread for this. We must get the word out!!

    Dolph,

BY THE WAY, the NOMADIC behavior way of explaining it in such a SIMPLE, COMMON SENSE way is due to YOU! YOU came up with the words we were all lacking…NOMADIC!

THANK YOU for helping me help me and others :)

sellout_of_America - THAT is the objective of the Dems, but it was shot down by Republican filibuster - the Dems just cannot get ANY part of the Amnesty passed.
