I think (this is OT) is that republicans in the federal government are not fiscally conservative!

We are 9 trillion dollars in debt - a huge percentage 90% I think, under republican leadership.

Sure the Iraq war is expensive - but why arnt we paying for it now? If its a required war, why are we letting the chinese mortgage the cost of it, and we doom future generations as a result?

Republicans need to be fiscally conservative NOW, balance the budget NOW if they want to win the white house in 2008. Give people hope that the arnt all crooks and they can make tough decisions, which are tough now, but are the best for the long run. Give people hope that this country isnt going down the toilet when they can still act.

Allen was the victim of the same stupity of arrogrance and “I am better then anyone else” just like Stewart and Frederick. They have no character so how could it be assanated? Allen did all he could to screw up the Va government and he did no better in the Senate.

Davis read the tea leaves and found his brand of conservatism is some where below whale dung as far as attracting Virginia’s conservatives. Big tooth has a well oiled machine, so whom ever picks up the Republican flag has his/her work cut out for them.

Gilmore tried to bankrupt the Commenwealth with the car tax promise. He cannot beat Warner. Davis couldn’t either and he was smart enough to know it.

The worst part about Gilmore is he borrowed the Car Tax idea from Chuck Colgan but he screwed it up by failing to fund it.
At least Colgan had a revenue source in place.

After Gilmore, Mark Warner closed 56 Government Agencies and cut the budget of all state agencies by 7,11 or 15% depending on the need of the agency. Sound like a fiscal conservative to me. Yes he raised taxes $1 Billion but that was after Gilmores irresponsible $3 Billion cut.

Davis’ poll results against Warner were dismal: he gets 34%; Gilmore’s are actually worse against warner: 31%. What was remarkable in this Democratic poll was the undecided: 7%, which is incredibly low for a race that’s a year away. So it went like this: Warner 59% - Davis 34%- Undecided 7%. Warner 64% - Gilmore 31% - Undecided 5%. As far as an Allen - Warner matchup, it’s unlikely Allen would want another nearly sure loss on his scorecard.

Gilmore is a good man but he cannot beat Warner.

VA GOP can do better than Gilmore. Allen or Pace would be fine although Allen is all involved with Fred Thompson’s campaign right now.

While my initial reaction was Sen. Allen should run (he ONLY lost because of a stupid, but affective, smear campaign over a made-up word), I must say that Gen Pace would be an EXCELLENT alternative to the Moderate to Liberal John Warner.

Yes, I have stated my like for Jim Gilmore. I know the man and he is more than honorable and up for the task. That being said, he would probably be best suited for Dept of Homeland Security in the next Republican Administration in 2 years. Gen. Pace has a proven track record and IF he honestly has intentions on going to the lion’s den, HE is the gladiator who can stand up to them and win.

It will be nice to have at least ONE Republican in the Senate - something we have not had since Senator Allen!!!

there is a movement underway to “Draft” Fmr Marine Gen and Head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Peter Pace, who was forced out of office due to criticism of several senators (John Warner the most vocal) stemming from the statement he made that homosexuality is immoral. The day he retired he put his 4 stars on the Vietnam Memorial under the names of the soldiers in his platoon who had died.
I Personally Believe that he would have the best chance of defeating Warner, and that he would be a great Senator

He’s done a good job representing his district in Congress? Hmm. Fifteen years ago, a commute from the intersection of Rte 50 and I-66 to the Key Bridge took an average of 25 minutes. Now it’s 50 minutes. At the first sign of precipitation, his entire district is gridlocked. When he first went to Congress, his district was populated by military and government workers. Now it’s populated by so many illegal aliens the County is ashamed to count them publicly. His key committee membership, the “Government Reform” committee, has done so well with the federal procurement system that government contracts are a bad joke the world over. I don’t think his district or the country can take another term of his “leadership.” Good that he’s retiring to “RINO-land.” He and Jorge Boosch can swap tales. We can only hope that Frank Wolf follows.
