Tom Davis To Retire?
By Greg L | 24 October 2007 | US Congress | 16 Comments
Via NLS, there’s an item on Roll Call that says that Tom Davis may retire from the House of Representatives in 2008:
Veteran Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.), who has been seen as a leading candidate to replace retiring Sen. John Warner (R) in 2008, may now be just a day away from announcing his own retirement from Congress.
This should shake things up a bit.

Who would run for the GOP?
I suspect it would be Corey “America for Americans” Stewart or Sean “I’m not for sale–except to developers” Connaughton.

“The House will vote Thursday, October 25, on a new SCHIP bill that is being crafted in a way that will attract more votes in order to make it veto-proof.”
We must stop this today! Call your elected officials to vote NO! Illegal aliens will get these benefits!
Recap of action items:
1. Vote NO on AgJobs.
2. Vote NO on SCHIP.
3. Continue to vote NO on the Dream Act.

“Public La Raza Funding (HR 1999) Rolled Into Senate Bill Housing Assistance Authorization Act of 2007 (S.1923)”
We must stop funding for La Raza once and for all! Contact your elected officials today! This piggy backing is trickery at its finest!
Davis will not resign or retire from the senate today…too likely to undermine JMDD campaign. TD will announce he is not running for the US Senate nomination.
Davis will not ever resign his seat. That would potentially cause a special election. Davis might decide not to run for reelection next year. Difference is resignation clears the seat immediately…retirement means he leaves at the end of his term.
I think it is unlikely he will retire. To do so now when the GOP does not hold either seat means he will not be in high demand as a lobbyist, and will significantly undermine any attempt to come back for a future senate race.
Most likely event-no senate run in 2008, runs for reelection instead and keeps his options open.
Davis must be tired of dealing with right-wing nuts in his own party who have taken the party out of control.
Maybe Davis is just tired of dealing with the traffic on I-66, especially on days like today, and maybe he’s tired of trying to reason with left-wing nut jobs like Anonymous, who can never be satisfied no matter how much he compromises his principles. Maybe Wolf will follow him. Maybe one of their friendly developers will build an old-RINO home somewhere in Arlington where they can sit around and enjoy milquetoast and watered down coffee.
Davis was out of control. Last time I checked the constitution(its an old document that this country was founded on) DC is not a state and he continued to vote for DC voting rights.
Conservatives believe in the “rule of Law” Liberals beleive you follow the law unless there is an opportunity to skirt it to make yourself feel good about yourself for being such a “big hearted person”
Few men of first class ability can afford to let their affairs go to ruin while they fool away their time in Legislatures. But your chattering, one-horse village lawyer likes it, and your solemn ass from the cow countries, who don’t know the Constitution from the Lord’s Prayer, enjoys it, and these you always find in the Assembly; the one gabble, gabble, gabbling threadbare platitudes and ‘give-me-liberty-or give-me-death’ buncombe from morning to night, and the other asleep, with his slab-soled brogans set up like a couple of grave-stones on the top of his desk.
Laws control the lesser man… Right conduct controls the greater one.
Maybe Tom’s WIFE needs to retire - judging by her commericals, you would think she is a Democrat. I realize that she lives in a heavy Dem area but so does Jay O and HE has NEVER compromised his principles.
JL:
What make you think Jeanmarie Devolites-Davis is “compromising her principles”? Wouldn’t that mean she had to have some to begin with?

“…70% of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006 were illegal immigrants”
Wow! What an eye opener! We need to get that anchor baby loophole closed fast!
Davis did not resign or retire today…merely confirmed that he will not run for the senate in 2008…
…at least as things stand now.

Sorry to say, none of our officials in congress want to touch that subject. Look at the voting record for Allen, Webb, Warner and Wolf. None of them has ever taken a position on anchor babies. It looks like that subject is off the table for them.
