Jackson Miller Crushes, And Other Observations

By Greg L | 6 November 2007 | Prince William County, 50th HOD District | 25 Comments

With all but one precinct reporting, Jackson Miller is leading Jeanette Rishell with more than a twenty percentage point lead in the 50th House Distruct.  Although Rishell’s campaign called Jackson Miller yesterday to make sure they knew how to contact Rishell in order to concede, Jeanette Rishell still hasn’t called Jackson Miller yet.  The race that began with no class, ends with no class.  Surprise.

Results coming in show that Supervisor John Stirrup and Delegate Jeff Frederick won with a similar margin, Chairman Corey Stewart increased his lead over Sharon Pandak from last election, and so did Delegate Bob Marshall.  Delegate Scott Lingamfelter also won big over Bill Day.  In every race other than Woodbridge Supervisor, where Frank Principi beat Chris Royse for the Woodbridge Supervisor seat, candidates who were strong on the illegal alien issue won big.

A couple of tidbits from today are noteworthy:

Although Julie Lucas demolished her opponents for Neabsco School Board, PWCRC Chairman Tom Kopko refused to recognize her at the PWCRC party this evening.  I guess the realization that she really should have been the candidate for the 51st House District isn’t making some folks very happy.

Chuck Colgan seems to have fended off a strong challenge from Bob Fitzsimmonds, which is a remarkably narrow margin of victory for a 32 year incumbent.  DPVA dumped in a lot of resources to rescue Colgan that might have otherwise gone to other Democrats in Northern Virginia.  Running this strong shouldn’t be viewed as a defeat from a strategic standpoint.

Despite a huge effort by the illegal alien lobby to swing the outcome of races in Prince William County, they came up with nothing.  The write-in campaign against John Jenkins was a dud, none of the candidates they wanted to defeat did anything other than do better than they did last year.  What is it going to take for these folks to realize that they can’t win?

Ham Sandwich failed to unseat Paul Ebert as Commonwealth’s Attorney, despite getting hundreds of votes.  Ebert should still be embarrassed.

Full election results are available at the State Board of Elections website.

I suppose we should not be shocked at what Jeanette is doing. Because she is a wine and cheese elitist liberal, she hardly feels she has to look down her nose and concede to Jackson.

Well Jeannette, will you believe the facts from today????

Nice to see Chuck Colgan put the boots to Bob Fitzsimmonds..no mention here though?

10 points is a “remarkably narrow margin”, on what planet, that is a land slide, hell Mabie did better. The State Republican Party invested much more in Fitzsimmonds than the DPVA invested in Colgan. The reality is that money could have saved O’Brien or Davis. FitzSimmonds hurt the entire party.

Greg a little honest would be nice, the best man won.

According to the MJM headline, “Miller Egdes Rishell”. Since when is deafeating someone by 20% edging?

Maybe they just recycled the old headline…

I have to agree with Billyboy. In this environment, I’m amazed at the margin that Colgan was able to pull off in his VERY impressive win. I’ll be so proud to have my Senator back in Richmond. I’m a Republican Colgan supporter going back to the 70’s.

Let’s hope we’ve seen the last of Fitzsimmonds and his ilk who stand for nothing but control and exclusion from the party that they are bent on destroying. I was happy to see Kopko and Co. brilliantly lead their handpicked candidates to defeat, but I’m fired up that their antic took out Jay O’Brien.

Billyboy, your remark (re Colgan’s win) that the “best man
won” doesn’t always ring true. There are many variables
which lead to victory and having all those children and grand-
children out there beating the bushes on your behalf couldn’t
hurt. I hope that we haven’t seen the last of Bob Fitzsimmonds,
    a really good man.

You had some who voted for Stewart but voted for Colgan do to his long standing ties in this area and because he’s doing something about traffic. I’d like to see him keep him promise and help rid the area of illegals which was my #1 concern.

The fight to rid the area of ALL illegals became a priority and many democrats voted for Stewart because of this. Also, great to see Glen Hill win over Dominguez and “name” had nothing to do with it and Duminguez stated.

Can we now speed up our corporation with ICE. :)

Colgan’s a POS and so are all of his backers. We’ll get no help from him on the illegal alien issue. Most of his backers hire them.

Advocator, you are absolutely on the money about Colgan.

Angry Black Man, there’s not ever going to be cooperation with
ICE from Hill, so get over it. Hill has stated over and over again that he wants NOTHING to do with law enforcement!
He’s satisfied just to show up at his office a couple of times a
week (during the winter months when the golf games slow
    down).
He must be pretty sad, however, for the fact that McQuigg will
be the Clerk of Court (and not Lucy).

With Colgan in line to chair the Sen. Finance Cmte., lets see if he puts his political muscle where his mouth is and does something on illegal aliens. I’ll bet that he falls in line with Saslaw mighty fast and caves completely.

Gone fishing…we will agree to disagree!

Glen HIll is what we need and will do his part to stop all illegals so why printed that is a suprise. If you don’t like the man then say it but don’t make up lies!!!!

Angry, you obviously aren’t very familiar with our brother.
There’s no need to “make up lies” about the man. There’s
a lot of truth to be told. No, quite frankly, I do not like him
or what he stands for. He’s going to stop illegals? That’s
    very funny.

Gone Fishing, I’m well aware of Glendell Hill going back to his Police Days. The man is full of integrity and much better than Lee the crook Stoffgren or the most recent clown he beat.

I voted for Glen Hill and will again…plus I’m proud to have done so! :0)

Based on his margin of victory, it’s obvious others felt this way too.

It will be hosted by Lyall, Steinbach, and MC’d by the one and only Seeneeor Ricky Juarez dancing to the tune of “La Cucaracha”.

The demographic profile of the Manassas area (and of the City of Manassas, in particular), relative to the demographics of the rest of Northern Virginia, is not particularly favorable for Democrats.

Based on median household income, average educational achievement, ethnic distribution and a whole host of other socio-economic factors, Manassas looks demographically much more like down-state Virginia than the rest of Northern Virginia.

Manassas is the hole in the Northern Virginia donut demographically.

Given how built out Manassas is, and, sadly, its poor reputation nationally and internationally, its demographics are not likely to change materially anytime soon.

The Rublican Party should continue to do just fine in Manassas, where “God, guns and gays” still plays pretty well.

Angry Blackman…I agree with you 100%. Dominguez is now race baiting by complaining that his last name had to do with his losing. SAD.

As I have stated before, voters get what they ask for (and
deserve) and then must live with the consequences. Hill is
an embarassment to the race. I should know.

It is just a matter of time before Colgan is gone. His replacement will be someone from the GOP. The fact so many of his supporters seem to be Jackson supporters and were not supporters of Jeannette, indicates someone in the mode of Jackson(no, I am not saying Jackson is going to run) would do very well in the election to replace Colgan.

    Justice,

Actually there is some truth to what Dominguez is saying. I am related to someone who did not vote for him because of his last name. They assumed he was an activist with an agenda. Granted, that person should have been more familiar with the candidates, but…alas, they weren’t.

Emphasis on some….I do not think that was the only reason. Many people like Sheriff Hill. Personally, it wasn’t a race I was greatly interested in.

    Dolph,

I don’t think too many people were put off by Dominguez’ last name. After researching both candidates, I believed that either man would be a good sheriff. I chose Hill because there was no guess work involved. He had one term under his belt, and did a much better job than his predecessor. Most people I know were happy with Hill and saw no need to change. It it ain’t broke…

There you go again, Colgan is living those family values that are so important to you hypocritic right wing nuts…what’s wrong with Colgan’s family getting out there to support their father/grandfather. God forbid a Democrat have strong family values.

No Surprise the Republicans have major wins since this area is predominantly a Repubican stronghold. Very difficult for Ms. Rishell to have as strong a candidacy in an area that critcizes the very air she breathes…
