WashPo Just Makes It Up, Again
By Greg L | 8 November 2007 | Fairfax County | 20 Comments
In their gleeful celebration of Democrats winning in Northern Virginia, the Washington Post is starting to get pretty goofy. In a recent Washington Post Blog entry by Bill Turque, we find this celebratory item:
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly (D) swept all nine magisterial districts in his thumping of Republican Gary H. Baise on Tuesday. He carried Sully and Springfield — which he lost to Mychele B. Brickner (R) in 2003 — by comfortable margins.
Hmm, seems like the State Board of Elections has a different take on this:

Springfield has major problems with illegal aliens, and outrage over the situation helped fuel Pat Herrity’s thumping of Gerry Connoly’s boy Mike McClanahan on Tuesday. But the Washington Post, which has been falling all over itself to justify their claim that the immigration issue is of no consequence in Fairfax County, has started resorting to just making stuff up in order to bolster their opinion, um, er, articles.
Can’t they even look up election results? Not when they might contradict the obvious biases of the Washington Post. Sheesh.

The History Channel (41 in PWC) is airing a show right now on MS-13 and in Northern Virginia.
Um, Greg, get your facts straight before your throw stones. You’re the one who has it wrong.
Connolly won the popular vote in all nine magisterial districts in Fairfax (including Springfield and Sully). In other words, he personally had broad support across the entire county where the last time around, he lost the popular vote in Sully and Springfield. That’s what the blog post on the WaPo site claims. It doesn’t claim that Connolly’s fellow Dems swept in the county. How the candidate for Supervisor in Springfield did is not the question. The clip you post had nothing to do with Connolly’s race against Baise.
Once again, your headline is misleading and wrong (not that I expect you to acknowledge that). Can’t you read election results? Obviously not when they get in the way of your illegal immigration biases.
Oh, and before you spin this as Herrity winning because of his stance on illegal immigration, I’m sure the fact the he’s the son of Jack Herrity (you know, the guy whose name is on the “Jack Herrity Parkway” aka, the Fairfax County Parkway, and who was a larger-than-life figure in Fairfax County) didn’t hurt him. Then there’s the fact that he was succeeding Elaine McConnell who has been a popular Republican fixture on the Fairfax County Board for decades.
Gregs right on! McClanahan thought illegal immigration and five families living in one dwelling unit was a non-issue in Springfield and the voters took notice. I’m certain having Nate “I’m not legally allowed to vote” de la piedra followed by Frank “I can’t win a race” Blechman as his campaign managers didn’t help either. I guess Nates Next Generation PAC didn’t throw in enough money?! Of course, Nate moved on to manage our flaming liberal friend, Bruce Roemelts race. While were talking about Springfield, it is worth noting that Liz Bradsher, more commonly referred to as SCB by little boy Ben at NLS, destroyed her opponent for School Board. As we all know, Tribbett and Lowell Feld’s 15 year old boy toy at West Springfield High School ran that race…great job! I can assure you, Connolly will have his hands full with Herrity. He is a hard charging and won’t put up with the Chairman’s BS. Someone will finally hold him accountable for his actions.
Alleyesontribbett,
Um, Greg didn’t say anything about McClanahan’s views to be “right on” about. Instead, he accused the Washington Post of lying, which they clearly didn’t. As Turn PW Blue stated, Gerry convincingly won both Sully and Springfield for himself. The Post said nothing about the downballot candidates.
Where’s WOLF? Does he care about illegal immigration?

Where’s Wolf indeed (Darfur?). It’s pretty bad when we’ve got to depend on the likes of Rep Murtha to represent our interests instead of our own elected Representative.
I watched the documentary about MS-13 on the History Channel last night that Lafayette referred to. It focused on Northern Virginia and was incredibly scary. One thing they pointed out was that most of the violent thugs came out of the legacy of the Communist insurgency in El Salvador before they were defeated there. They learned their techniques of murder and intimidation in that school. The documentary illustrated many other aspects of how serious the problem is that we hear nothing of from the MJM or WP.
Interesting also was that History Channel, which has a global audience, focused on our area to discuss the MS-13 problem. I don’t know when or if History Channel will rerun this documentary but we should watch for it. It is extremely eye-opening regarding the worst aspects of the illegal alien problems in our communities.
Concerned,
I was devistated while watching that show last. I’ve recently met with 3member of the Gang Task force. I’d already heard some of the stuff they were talking about. However, the GTF said these sub-groups aren’t well organized like MS-13, they don’t have a set “rules/standards”, and they pretty much are just young thugs that do whatever they think they can get away with.
I’ve spotted a privacy fence on Liberia Ave this morning that has been tagged with MS-13, all over it. I took pictures, and I will post them later with the other taggings, etc. I saw a MC police officer in his car. I pulled over to ask him who do I report this tagging to he said it’d already been reported. He told me to contact their Non-Emergency number as we should in PWC.
Gangs are NOT WELCOME here nor are the ILLEGAL ALIENS. We need our community and quality of life restored. This will happen slowly but surely. This problem didn’t happen overnight, and it’s not going to go away overnight either.
All citizens must get involved, and pick up the phone, and call to report any and all suspicious activity.
City of Manassas - Non Emergency number: 703-257-8000
mcr,
Thank you. I forgot to put their number up there.
Layayette, can we youtube it???
Also, while it was true what was said about Herrity (him being the son of Jack), I have met with Pat a good number of times and unlike SOME politicians in Fairfax County, Pat was VERY approachable and likeable and I believe we can expect a lot of good things, more especially MORE PRESSURE on Gerry “Head in the Sand” Connolly.
I do agree with Greg in that this was NOT a thumping by Connolly. A thumping would be when the person you ran against won with over 70% of the vote, NOT 58-41%!!!.
Mr. Light,
I’m “digitally challenged” as one gentleman called, who shall remain namesless.
I will check the schedule to see if it will be re-aired.
I will get my pictures up very soon of new tagging.

**unless they care to call themselves out on that, I won’t call them out by name.**
If the name of the show is ‘You Rat, You Die,’ it is being rebroadcast at 9 p.m. on Monday Nov. 12 on the History Channel, according to Comcast fake tivo. I am assuming that this is the same show referenced by Concerned and Lafayette.
Lafayette, I am just wondering if you can’t work your digital camera, your fingers and toes, or do math if you are DIGITALLY challenged.

JL:
I don’t disagree with a single point you made. My concern is that once again the headline doesn’t match the facts. Pat Herrity will be a force in Fairfax. That’s why he got elected. He was a strong candidate across a number of issues, not just illegal immigration.
If illegal immigration were truly THE CONCERN, Connolly should have lost because he clearly did not step up his rhetoric on the subject while Baise made it a key pillar of his campaign.
Turn PW - Thank you and yes, you are 100% correct in your assessment. Personally, I wish it had been Herrity who ran against Connolly…would have made for an interesting race.
Medic64,
Thanks for posting the show times.
All-Here’s the photos of the tagging on Liberia Ave.
