"We have lost our ambition, our imagination, and our willingness to do the things that built the Golden Gate Bridge" - Barack Obama (aka President Malaise)

Saturday Roundup

Quite a few things happening that I haven’t had as much time to follow them as I’d like:

Bwana notes a previous statement by Delegate Brian Moran regarding Delegate Jackson Miller’s chances for re-election:

“If Delegate Miller sides with the politics of extremism, I would expect a competitive race this fall,” said Del. Brian J. Moran (D-Alexandria). “Whether on transportation or immigration, we need moderation on every issue. That’s how Harry Parrish led.”

Um, not quite Brian, by your previous definition of “extremism” as ensuring that the rule of law actually meant something in Virginia.  In case anyone was unsure about whether Brian Moran is usually talking out of his posterior, those uncertainties have certainly been laid to rest.

Democrats have nominated someone named Phil Forgit to be the Democratic nominee for the First Congressional District, apparently missing the lesson that unelectable names, such as Steve Heretick (thumped in 13th Senate race 59%-41% on Tuesday) aren’t great qualifications for candidates.

Meanwhile, Republicans are still going strong in their convention as of this posting, with the sixth ballot being tabulated in a contest that has been whittled down to Jost and Wittman. Bowditch has withdrawn, and Davis was knocked out in the fifth ballot, and both are endorsing Whittman.  Jost has lead every ballot, but still hasn’t gotten within striking distance of an absolute majority of the delegate votes, but this next ballot should be the last one.  This started at 1:00PM, and may not end until 11:00PM.  Some of you thought the 51st District convention was interminable, but at least delegates are doing something, and there are hospitality suites to make this tolerable.

The Manassas Urinal-Massager is predictably trumpeting some strange complaints regarding voter intimidation at Stonewall Precinct in the Gainesville Magisterial District, my home turf.  I spent about three hours there on Tuesday, and the only thing I saw were “interpreters” “helping” people vote who claimed they couldn’t read English, despite there being instructions in Spanish on the voting machines.  One of the poll watchers observed an interpreter actually change the votes cast by a voter.  If there’s anything worth investigating, it’s whether such “assistance” is compliant with elections laws.

Stay tuned for more updates on the 1st CD Convention.  The Shad Plank is providing on-site coverage.

The first reminds me of the 6th district convention in 1982. Five candidate field, and state senator Ray Garland from Roanoke led on ballot 1, 2, 3, and then lost on the 4th ballot to Delegate Kevin Miller

He is not known as Moron for nothing.

Is it me, or does Jackson Miller have “Senator” written all over him in four years?

State or U.S.? Though, I would hope he would run for Governor one day. He can build his reputation up here, and since he has Southside roots, I think he has the best of both Worlds.

    Paging Chuck Colgan . . .

Jackson Miller is no Bob FitzSimmonds.

Enjoy your four years as Pro Tem, it’ll be your last.

    Chris,
Senator Colgan, 81, has stated this was his last
    campaign.
Hopefully, in the next four years, both parties will
find candidates worthy of following Senator Colgan.
Certainly, Delegate Miller may be one of those people.

Why would Jackson Miller want to run against Colgan when he voted for him?

    Big Dog,
    You are so right.
I hope both parties already have their “thinking caps” on.

Colgan wont run again. His statements in the Gainseville Times was shot to the Democrats - don’t come knocking again. Go find someone else. Of course if the same opponent runs against him again, who knows.

You are all such angry monsters. I hope that there is such a thing as karma, and I know that there is God. Evil will be met by an opposing force.

You can bet Fitzsimmons will run again in 4 years. He has tried 4 time and never made it. The Repb. need to get a stronger candidate.

Fitzsimmonds is way far right aand he runs the Party and always wants a Convention, just like Faisal they know they can run the conventions.

    Here’s hoping.
