MJM opinion of :

Resolution examined
OUR OPINION

Potomac News
Wednesday, November 21, 2007

Linda Chavez, the chairman of the State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, is coming to Prince William County. She will examine the county's anti-illegal immigrant resolution, passed unanimously by the Board of County Supervisors, of which Corey Stewart is the chairman.

The board moved ahead without much evidence of the impact of illegal immigrants, she said.

Chavez cited the county's low unemployment rate as a counter for the theory that illegal immigrants are taking the jobs of citizens. And she said that since the crime rate is down in the county, this raises the question of whether illegal immigrants are causing more crime.

In his role as chairman, Stewart told this newspaper that according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, up to one-third of all gang members in Northern Virginia are illegal immigrants, as are 21 percent of jail inmates.

And Stewart also says that none of this is really the point. The point is that illegal immigrants are here illegally.

That may be the point, but we don't see any harm in having oversight of government actions.

The committee itself has no enforcement authority and simply reports to the commission, a civil rights watchdog organization.

Stewart fears that Chavez has an agenda and that she cannot be objective. He also cites the fact that her nomination to head the U.S. Department of Labor in 2001 failed because of an illegal immigrant woman. Chavez said she was sheltering the woman. Others say Chavez had hired the woman.

A subsequent investigation by the FBI found that Chavez was innocent of any wrong doing, a fact that Corey Stewart neglects to mention.

But this is really all irrelevant. The fact is that Chavez is the chairman of the State Advisory Committee, she is coming to town and she will report to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. The commission will, most likely, listen to what she has to say.

So, it is incumbent on county officials to work with her, do their best to be transparent and try to prove, if possible, that the anti-illegal immigrant resolution will not violate anybody's civil rights.

Attacking the head of the committee leading an investigation isn't a good strategy for success. Attacks have a tendency to put people on the defensive, and that is not how you want someone leading an investigation to be.

Stewart's actions are those of a little demagogue. He says that he gives Chavez no credibility and that until she is removed he will give no credibility to the results that come of her investigation.

Unfortunately, credibility is not Stewart's to give. Neither the committee, nor the commission care if he agrees. Chavez will investigate regardless, and the best thing the county can do is cooperate. The best thing Stewart can do is stop turning what should be debate into personal attacks.

Linda Chavez has spent her lifetime in public service. In 2000, she was named a Library of Congress Living Legend -- an award that honors people who have made significant contributions to America's diverse cultural, scientific and social heritage.

We are left to wonder how history will judge Corey Stewart's contributions.

The civil rights commission will be BIASED as a result of its leaderships personal ethnic and racial alignment and favoritism (See Linda Chavez,'s comments on her own racial and ethnic group bias). See, these commissions only work one way. When a minority is being suppressed by a majority, they claim (justifiably and rightfully so) that ethnic hatred and racism is the motivating force. That is a just and appropriate cause. BUT, when a majority is being oppressed and treated unjustly with racial hatred, supremacists actions and words and ethnic privilige bias by a MINORITY, they cannot comprehend how that could possibly be a civil rights violation perpetrated on the ethnicity of the majority. They don't GET IT...

For these commissions to be ethical, fair, and just they MUST hold minority groups and ethnic advocacy groups as illegally and socially accountable for civil rights violations as the majority ethnic groups they so readily target.

If they cannot do this they are not fit for the role and office they represent.

They also cannot endorse "illegal" behavior and illegal activity as a non-civil rights violation, or accept that it is ethnically, racially, gender and religious group neutral, because they as a commision are ethnically, racially, gender and religious biased themselves for their own racial and ethnic group agendas..
The people are on these commissions in the first place because they only want to take care of their own race and ethnic group, that's why they can't see it when they are the "new" supremacists and ethnic group haters.

ICE along with the State Police are ALREADY active in this part of Virginia. Read the papers and you'll see that they are rounding up Illegals and on a weekly base. Some you hear about and some you don't. The deportation of illegals has begun and is growing ! :)

Also, illegals are the ones who have ran down Manassas!

Dave - Thanks; it didn't take much effort to amuse you. And congratulatons to a job that only ex-military can execute. I presume you're a real VIP right at the top.

"a job that illegals cannot do unless they served our great country in the military". Is it possible for illegals to be in the military?

"He doesn't scare the kids. They can't read English anyway."
Wow, does he carry a sign of some kind when he puts on his Border line hat?

Maybe we should all start wearing Border Patrol hats. All illegal aliens should be reminded frequently that they are not welcome here.

Suggest a small change.......

The should be reminded CONSTANTLY that they are not welcome here.

Why would they leave if they are stared at? Would it be that they don't belong here? If they can't take the heat, they should leave if they are illegal. If they are not illegal they have nothing to worry about.

He doesn't scare the kids, they can't read English anyway, otherwise why do we as the counties taxpayers have to provide 877 ESOL teachers this school year?

Krusty you're easy to spin up. Thanks for the laughs this morning before I go to my job that illegals cannot do unless they served our great country in the military and have a security clearance, which means a background check and interviews with friends, family and co-workers and sometimes a full scope poly.

Dave - That must be very satisfying; I mean to be able to stare people out of an office. So now you have the ones who do work American teens won't do, driving without a license and not on record. Some improvement!

And it sure would be great if he could stare away some sick people in the ER. Real achievement.

The top is your suggestion that he goes to schoolbus stops. Do you want to scare kids away from going to school? They have a right to go to school, no matter what. That you would even think about such an action proves to me that you've come a long way, baby! Over the edge, IOW!

Krusty,

My neighbor goes into a couple different DMV offices, can't say how or why he picks them on a weekly basis. He wanders around and looks at people in the office and pretty soon some of them leave to go back to their jobs that American teenagers won't do which allows people who are legally here most likely taking time off from work a shorter line to wait in. He's providing a service. I told him he needs to go visit the emergency room on occasion as well and some school bus stops. I went with him to the polls on election day and he wore his border patrol hat but it was too early for any of the MWB people to be there based on what I read on this blog. We went around 10am to the local elementary school, only saw some guy trying to sign people up to get Ron Paul on the ballot and a Cory supporter whom we high-fived after voting.

999 - 9:49 My, my! You're just sore because the Redskins lost again. And I think your neighbor has too much free time in retirement, so tries to go back to his working days. And show off his hat to prove that he's important. Bet he's a nice guy though.

Good night - sweet dreams of earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding... You don't have to worry. You'll wake up in your nice, cozy bed, turn a tap for your nice, hot shower, flick a switch to turn on your coffee maker and maybe sit down at your domputer and write red hot blog comments.

P.S. I have a great life. Saw the movie "Ratateuille" today.
In spite of it being a Disney, it had a lot to give. You ought to see it.

999 - 9:49 My, my! You’re just sore because the Redskins lost again. And I think your neighbor has too much free time in retirement, so tries to go back to his working days. And show off his hat to prove that he’s important. Bet he’s a nice guy though.

Good night - sweet dreams of earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding… You don’t have to worry. You’ll wake up in your nice, cozy bed, turn a tap for your nice, hot shower, flick a switch to turn on your coffee maker and maybe sit down at your domputer and write red hot blog comments.

P.S. I have a great life. Saw the movie “Ratateuille” today.

Maybe we should all start wearing Border Patrol hats. All illegal aliens should be reminded frequently that they are not welcome here.

I’d like to go and watch what he does.

Don't forget to wear your clown get-up or do you wear that all the time?

Dave - If he hangs out at DMV without having any business there, might that be called loitering? What does he do to "stir things up"? Is is OK to go into a DMV office to "stir things up? Just wondering. Which DMV office does he hang out in? I'd like to go and watch what he does.

999, 1:29 - How smug can you be?!? 17 years to recuperate after a war for a poor nation is not a long time. As for hurricanes and earthquakes ravishing same poor country, isn’t that enough to cause you to have empathy?

It about damn time we took care of our own people. Next you will want all of the refugees from Bangladesh who just went through a cyclone to come here, all of the refugees from the fighting in Liberia, Congo, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and every bananna republic that feels it needs to get rid of it poor and uneducated.
GET A LIFE, CLOWN!

Dave - Might that be called stalking? If a man with a funny hat were following me, I'd leave too. There are weirdos everywhere, you know. - Is your neighbor a border patrol person, or did he just have the hat left over from Halloween?
