Employers of illegal aliens are starting to feel the heat as enforcement actions seem to be increasing in numbers, Culpeper cleans up an informal day laborer site, and an illegal immigration fraud ring gets dismantled. Here’s a roundup of what’s happened in the Commonwealth recently on the illegal alien issue, which shows we here in Prince William are not at all alone in this battle.
Fauquier County Employer Indicted
A federal grand jury Tuesday indicted three family members in Fauquier County on charges of employing, recruiting and housing illegal immigrants. They face a possible prison sentence if convicted, and the government is seeking $1.5 million in alleged proceeds from their business.
Fishing Company Pleads Guilty To Hiring Illegals
Owners of a Newport News fishing company are prepared to pay $6.9 million in penalties under a plea agreement for employing at least 126 illegal immigrants to work its fleet of trawlers.
Help Protect Culpeper Cleans Up the Town Square
Within a month of the founding of “Help Protect Culpeper”, dozens of day laborers are no longer gathering to wait for work in the parking lot at Culpeper Town Square along Bus. 29. That’s because Centro Properties, the national company that owns the shopping center, has hired a private security firm to disperse the gathering of mostly Hispanic men which have been blighting this property for over three years.
Immigration Fraud Ringleader Sentenced
Arturo Tovar-Pena was sentenced to 63 months in prison Tuesday after being convicted of running a illegal immigration and fraud ring in Roanoke. The Tovar-Pena brothers recruited Mexicans to enter the United States illegally, pose as construction workers in order to case the offices of various companies, then return to steal payroll checks, make them out to themselves, and cash them. He had pleaded guilty to conspiracy and being a deported alien who returned to the United States without authorization. Tovar-Pena will be deported after his sentence is completed.

That first story especially is good to hear. We need to circulate it around and make these contractors understand their legal liabilities. A big THANK YOU to the police officer who investigated this in the first place rather than turning away from it.
“With the other defendants, Tovar-Pena was ordered to pay $40,668 restitution. U.S. District Court Judge James Turk set Tovar-Pena’s payments at $25 per month or half his income, whichever is greater, during his imprisonment and $100 per month after his release.”
What false justice! At $25 a month while he’s in prison, he will only have paid $1,575 of the $40,688. At zero interest. And then he’s off to Mexico. Good luck in collecting the remaining $39+K.

You are correct! That is a plain out and out sham! Even if he did make payments after his release, it would take him over 35 years to repay the restitution. Someone should give that judge a calculator and half a brain!
Perhaps Tovar-Pena has property that can be seized and liqidated to satisfy the restitution? I’d imagine he didn’t just just have the shirt on his back when he was apprehended.
Of course, that’s wishful thinking.

I’m sure our “Pres.” will have something planned. What about the citizens? I just don’t understand why groups only. I have my opinions on their lack of logic. I attended all but two of the Immigration Sub-Committee meetings, and what a joke they were. There was never a single meeting when all the members of the committee were present. Maureen did attended ALL of the meetings. I let her fill you in later.

The General Assembly is the next logical step. We need to PUSH for a statewide 287g agreement. As far as I’m concerned, Kaine has slapped Virginians in the face for not doing this already.

As I have said previously we need to fine the cheating businesses who hire illegals into oblivion ($10,000 per day per illegal(?)) and jail persistent offenders.
Another provision I’d add is a reward of up to 10% of the fines to any ***legal*** tipster who turns in the cheaters. Set it up like a Crime Stoppers Tip Line - they get an anonymous account number and are shielded from retribution - legal or otherwise.
Anyone have experience or knowledge on how well those tip lines work?

Harry C - I’m told the IRS tip lines (for employers that pay under the table)are very effective, though I haven’t verified that for myself.

Border Patrol agents sent to jail for 11 and 12 years for trying to stop a convicted drug smuggler from bringing in 865 pounds of marijuana to poison our kids. Howard County (Tx) sheriff’s deputy Guillermo Hernandez is in jail
also, for trying to stop a convicted human smuggler from bringing in a van load of illegals, In the meantime, his wife and infant are having a difficult time, just trying to survive.
You will note that these heroic lawmen have Hispanic names, but they are true Americans, fighting for us…and like them,
there are thousands of them in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting for us.
It is unbelievable that our government would send people who
are trying to do the right thing to prison…and we sit back and
complain about the invasion of illegals…you can blame the

There are several organizations that work very hard to help the families of these men who are now without a breadwinner.

regarding this issue. I actually had expected others to have
something to say about this case, but our bloggers have not
been forthcoming, for some reason. I wonder how many
among us have children fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan or other
parts of the world where U.S. Soldiers are being killed and
maimed…..Do we have any war veterans among us? I don’t
mean prior service, I mean real war veterans.

I think the Border agents should have been given a commendation instead of prison terms. This is why we need to visit this issue more closely. The crooks and drug dealers should not get away with this. I feel if the police tell you to stop and you do not and get shot, shame on you not them. If the police tell you to get on the ground and you do not and get shot, shame on you. If you have anything in your hand that looks like a weapon in the dark of the night and do not drop it when told which causes you to get shot, shame on you. What part of stop police do they not understand? People run to try to get away, but when they get caught or cornered they expect the police to be cordial and nice. The adrenalin is pumping because of the chase so what do you expect?
Forget the turkey, pardon the lawmen in jail!!! Lara Ingraham spoke of this on her radio show Wednesday. She said to pardon the lawmen in time for them to be home for Thanksgiving.
Since the Deputy has a record, will he be able to return to law enforcement? Has his livelihood been taken away from him?

record of service to our country. Thank you for that. I didn’t
mean to infer that it is only our war veterans who count for
anything, but it seems to me that war veterans would have a
more empathetic view of this situation since one might view
the positions of the border control officers to be that of quasi-
combat. I too believe those men deserve commendations for
their efforts and hopefully the records will be expunged when
those responsible for this injustice come to their senses.
