This is going to be interesting. The real drama will kick off at the 12/18 BOS meeting. I am trying to stir up some interest in local funding issues here; hoped the article in the Pot News about no roads after 2011 would have hit home - guess not. Maybe when the supervisors budget committe’s get rolling it will happen.

Sure would hate to end up like DC; police cars in the lots with no mechanics. The cars sat so long mice ate through all the wires.

Honorable Mr. Stewart is right when he says we are not going to increase our commercial tax rate - we are going to have to WAIVE it to get new business here in PWC.

The Election is over your Boy (Fatzsimmonds) lost (4 times now), you can stop spreading lies. Colgan’s position was he prefered the Gas Tax over the House Republican Transportation plan. He never favored an additional gas tax.

Remember they haven’t paid for immigration (yes, Virginia, there are big costs associated with the program), they can’t pay for what they started last year because the Honorable Mr. Stewart doesn’t think we really need a balanced five year plan to keep our AAA bond rating despite Moody’s criteria.

Maybe we should have a “what the heck will they do now that they won” thread?

My mother taught me that that the only breach of etiquette worse than making a mistake in public was correcting someone else’s.

It would have been more polite to remain mute on this issue; however, I suppose the point is moot (at this point).

I actually am right with you in your disdain for the Dillon Rule. It’s an anachronism and we would be better served with more local autonomy. My statement was not meant in any way to say I thought the Dillon Rule was a *good* thing. Rather is was to correct the presumption that local governments in Virginia really have any type of government power except those granted explicitly at the state level.

…and a Conservative General Assembly would not rely on the Dillon Rule to meddle in local affairs. It’s a Liberal’s tool of choice because they assume we aren’t smart enough to Govern ourselves. For those who are familiar with it’s history, it was a tool developed in the 19th Century to address corrupt local Governments. Some say (including me, a 10th Amendment fan) it has outlived its intended purpose.
