Anonymouse:
Our American culture:
1. Loyal to only our country and flag (the U.S. and U.S. flag).
2. Speak English (this is what unites all of us no matter where we are from). This has been our common language from our country's beginning.
3. Subscribe to the "melting pot" concept. This means that you do not place your country of origin/culture at a higher priority than the culture/ideas/traditions of America. This means that you get no special treatment or policies that favor one group of people over another. This means that all policies are for the good of all people (not a particular group of people based on race/ethnicity/culture, etc.).
Anonymouse....what is your culture now that I have spelled what a True American is all about?

The Devil, Dancers and placing of the Flags were all irresponsible and did not belong in our traditional Christmes Parade. Period

Those who approved it should be reprimanded and see to it that it never happens again.

We can have diversity with level headed latinos participating with a dance of
their culture. But it does not have to go to this degree.

This type of junk shows what this group is all about and I am sure the latinos
that are here to become american citizens for the right reason or already citizens found this as embarresing as the rest of us did.

Be sure your thoughts go to each person on the parade list.

We want a Christmas Parade and Santa Clause.

I will be the first to say, I do not have the answers.( read my post or ask anyone that knows me, I am the one that always asks:WHY? on everything , well not everything, what I don't know, I want to know, lol) :) I do see that more and more people seem to have gone form supporting a party to becoming an independent. I am still doing my part to help solve by listening and learning to work toward a solution. That is all I can do.

Rhyme time thinks he’s a poet
Just hand him a pipe and he’ll blow it.
He hates all that’s good
Cuz his head is made of wood
His words just constantly show it.

The last sentence of his rhyme makes no sense
He’s either dumb or just really dense.
He tries to take us on
While hanging out with Juan
At the Mexico/Texas Fence

In response to the rhyme of John Light,
My last line, was it perfect? Not quite.
but to critique my verse, with appreciably worse
proves to me that you're just not that bright.

You consider your musings the best,
they're predictable rants, like the rest,
with poorly paced meter, you anoy like a skeeter,
becoming the consummate pest!

We (Americans) are the lavishest and showiest and most luxury-loving people on the earth; and at our masthead we fly one true and honest symbol, the gaudiest flag the world has ever seen.”

Okay,I had to ask, I held out as LONG as I could…. ( my family has to hide my Christmas presents, I am to curious, lol ) Is this a quote?
I fly that gaudiest flag and I think I have good taste, humble and proud

Sam said that, and was also (mis)quoted as saying "I am not an American, I am the American." Arguably, during his time, he was. Most people would probably recognize his significant contribution to American culture under his pseudonym, Mark Twain.

You have the right to fly whatever flag you want to (assuming you're not in an HOA!), and Sam, or anyone else, has the right to comment on it's appearance or meaning. The parade participants had a right to perform as they felt appropriate, and everyone else has a right to their comments.

We watch, and decide which portion of the show stirs our hearts enough to include in our lives. We allow everyone else to draw their own conclusions.

As long as participants are not "scaring the horses" or otherwise causing public safety concerns, there's no reason call for their exclusion.

That's what makes a parade. And that, in large part, is what makes American culture.

1) The Krampus rocks, truly. Maybe there should be a BVBL contingent to enact that tradition next year at area's Xmas parades?

2) Now I am curious about the belly dancers. I would hope in the family setting, they'd have been somewhat modest. Kept well wrapped in their veils. Put more clothes on. (Disclaimer: RW belly dances.)

Dolph, I agree with you. I don't think there is one American culture. I don't think there was one American culture in the past and there certainly isn't one now.

Redawn, those are admirable traits that you listed above.

"I feel that no matter the American background, born or naturalized, we have been able to count on each other and make it stronger. We have learned to compromise,we have seen mistakes, forgiven and tried not to repeat them as we have learned to grown from them, etc."

I'd comment on your quote to say that while Americans in general have many of those traits, the political parties here are responsible for most of the divisiveness. Their goals are not necessarily the same goals as the average Joe's and Jane's. Their object is to win and if instilling hatred, divisiveness, or fear can help them achieve that goal, that's what they'll use. They've tried to make Americans hate fellow Americans for a long time now. But they don't think about the ramifications of their actions. Will people unite in an emergency? Will they not make the same mistakes? Are we capable of getting beyond party politics to find solutions to the problems this country faces now and in the future?

Rhyme time thinks he's a poet
Just hand him a pipe and he'll blow it.
He hates all that's good

We (Americans) are the lavishest and showiest and most luxury-loving people on the earth; and at our masthead we fly one true and honest symbol, the gaudiest flag the world has ever seen.”

Okay,I had to ask, I held out as LONG as I could…. ( my family has to hide my Christmas presents, I am to curious, lol ) Is this a quote?
I fly that gaudiest flag and I think I have good taste, humble and proud

What's not to like? The snot-nosed character and the thinly veiled S&M activity (whip-cracking in a Christmas parade?) For some reason we could not stop laughing at the hideous display. It was almost painful, and less funny when I thought about the poor kids in the float immediately before them. This kind of garbage shows us exactly what these folks are all about, how they not only flaunt our laws but spit on our traditions.

Anonymoustoo,

I am not going to touch that one with a ten foot pole re: defining 'our' culture. It all depends on a few small factors such as: where you live, your region, your race, your ethnicity, your income, your professional status, and probably a hundred more indicators. Dolph does not go where angels fear to tread.

We can have no "50-50" allegiance in this country. Either a man is an American and nothing else, or he is not an American at all.
