Fairfax Dems Compete For “Stupid Party” Label

By Greg L | 5 December 2007 | Fairfax County | 4 Comments

Sometimes the only thing worse than the shenanigans that sometimes happen at a Republican Committee meeting are the ones that happen at Democratic Committee meetings. Via NLS:

After claiming Kenton [Ngo] was ineligible and failing to cite any section that said so, the committee decided to let Kenton vote- WITH A PROVISIONAL BALLOT. Kenton, and one other teenager’s votes were decisive- without them one candidate won 20-18- with them it was a 20-20 tie.

BUT THE ELECTION WAS CAST BY SECRET BALLOT- MEANING THAT KENTON, WHO IS A FULL FLEDGED MEMBER OF THIS COMMITTEE HAD HIS VOTE PUBLICLY ANNOUNCED WHILE THE OTHERS WERE ALLOWED TO VOTE SECRETLY.

Apparently the infighting that is so legendary within the Prince William County Democratic Committee is also on full display within the Fairfax unit as well, and the exclusion of Kenton was an attempt to alter the outcome of a leadership vote.  That apparently failed, and now this sixteen year-old activist is the Secretary of the Springfield District Committee.

I disagree with Kenton on just about everything, but I do admire his determination to play a part in the political landscape and applaud him for his recent position as a campaign manager for a school board candidate in Fairfax.  If the FCDC wants to kick him out, as they’ve tried to do with others before, they’re slitting their own throats here.

Back when I was a student at West Springfield High School (1980-1984) the Young Democrats tried to do volunteer work up on The Hill. No luck, not one Senator or Congressman wanted their assistance. Same response at the local level.

Well, they approached the teacher who was in charge of the Young Republicans and asked if they could join us as EVERY Republican Congressman and Senator was grateful of our help. He agreed and soon, they became members of the Republican Party.

Oh yeah, even though the Republicans on The Hill were told that the students were Dems, they all said, “That does not matter, what matters is that they are here to make a difference and possibly learn something.” Soon, there was NO Young Democrats and the ENTIRE SCHOOL was a member of the Young Republicans, much to the chagrin of George Stepp.

If the Dems don’t watch it, they will be turning away their “best and brightest.”

    OT -

Breaking news - fresh off the press, etc. From Frank Wolf’s “news”letter:

    Immigration Reform & Border Security
Last month I added my name as a cosponsor to two important pieces of legislation aimed at combating illegal immigration.

    SAVE Act
The Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act would increase the number of Border Patrol agents by 8,000 and create a pilot program to increase aerial surveillance, satellite and equipment sharing between the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense. It also would increase the investigative abilities of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by employing more agents and training additional state and local law enforcement personnel.

In addition, the SAVE Act (H.R. 4088) would expand the existing Employment Eligibility Verification (E-Verify) program by requiring that all employers enroll within four years. This would ensure that all workers hired have a valid work permit. The expanded program would begin with the federal government, federal contractors, and employers with over 250 employees. Smaller businesses would begin using the system in a graduated manner.

The bill also would close existing loopholes that allow illegal immigrants to use the same Social Security number and would require information-sharing between the Department of Homeland Security, the Social Security Administration and the IRS. Lastly, it would expedite the deportation of illegal aliens by expanding detention capacity and increasing the number of Federal District Court judges. The SAVE Act has 112 bipartisan cosponsors.

Better late than never, eh Frank?

You know Advocator, I’m getting a little tired of your continuously strident remarks, particularly regarding Frank Wolf. Instead of saying, “Thanks for doing the right thing,” you’ve just got to take the opportunity for just one more jab. Is it really surprising that some of our legislators finally decide I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t…and stop listening to their constituents? We’re just lucky that Frank has been around long enough to know that people like you aren’t representative of his constituency.
