Not sure I understand your point. It should be difficult to get a replacement driver’s license without adequate documentation. YEs, in your case the fact that she had your picture in front of her was ridiculous, but flip the story a little. What if a person went into DMV claiming to be you with a forged birth certificate and/or SSN card (with no photo ID) claimed he had lost the license? Thus the requirement for a photo ID. The law is pretty clear on the documentation required for renewals, reissues, and new licenses. Or are you saying that the “rule of law” is flexible in its interpretation and how it is applied? *G*

And I did lose my license once. I used a photo ID from my employer and my birth certificate to get a duplicate. It wasn’t a pain for me because I brought the documentation the law required.

I told her my license plate number - not good enough. I told her the make and model of my 2 previous cars - not good enough. She asked me if my last DMV transaction had been at the DMV or online and what type of transaction it had been. When I answered incorrectly she told me there was nothing she could do for me, I had to show an ID with picture, the birth certificate was not good enough without picture. I told her that I had changed a bit since 1966, she failed to see the humor.

I then demanded of her to see her supervisor and she told me that she would go back to talk to him. He rolled his eyes at her and told her to give me a new license. Once it was printed (no new picture was taken) MY picture taken a year prior was on the ID. Amazing, she could have done that from the get-go and seen it was me. Who knows, maybe since I did not have Neve Campbell next to me she did not believe who I was - lol

To get a Virginia Driver’s License, you are required to bring and show identification that proves legal presence, Virginia residency, and your SSN (if you’ve been issued one). The exceptions to this is someone born in 1937 or earlier who has held a Virginia Drivers License that is current or expired less than five years ago. This is for new licenses.

For renewals, if you have a valid, unexpired license issued before 1/1/2004, you do not need to provide proof of legel presence when renewing your license. 1/1/2004 is the date the legal presence requirement became part of Virginia law.

Including it here you are implying that Bulova is attempting to make it easier for illegals to title vehicles. That’s not what HB 28 does since one must prove legal residency to receive a drivers license.

HB 55 is not an anti-illegal immigration act. In addition to the point made by anonymous above, HB 55 would also hurt the tourism industry in the state, making it illegal to provide signage and other documents, brochures, marketing materials, etc., for state- and local government-operated parks and tourism sites and destinations. It would also prohibit economic development agencies from printing and distributing marketing materials to attract foreign business and investment. The Fairfax County Economic Develop Authority, for instance, maintains overseas offices to attract foreign businesses to Fairfax County. Some of their materials are written in the language of those foreign countries. Finally, this is just a stupid bill. The major exceptions mean that all those places so many people are tired of seeing alternate languages will still be there. This one is smoke and mirrors to make it look like someone is doing something.

The text of Tata’s HB -45 bill reads: Provides that any person, knowing an individual is an alien in the United States unlawfully, who, with the intent to violate the immigration laws of the United States, fraudulently assists the illegal alien in acquiring or attempting to acquire a benefit, service, status, or privilege to which the illegal alien is not lawfully entitled, is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Please explain how that law would encompass the “poor cleark who looks at fake ID’s and in good faith gives the person benefits.”

(Delegate Scott Lingamfelter-R) requires the use of English by government, with a few necessary exceptions. — English is already the offical language of VA. I do believe federal law requires goverment forms be printed in languages where the population of certian non English speaking group is over 5%. There one incident in NYC where a hospital had to hire an employee who spoke an obscue African languge because someone came to the hosipital who also spoke the language and no one on staff could help the person and he sued. FEDERAL LAW.

(Delegate Robert Tata-R) will make assisting illegal aliens for benefits which they are not legally entitled to a crime. —- This is great. Some poor cleark who looks at fake ID’s and in good faith gives the person benefits — they get arrested not the illegal. What a thought!!!!
