You Learn Something Every Day

By Greg L | 8 December 2007 | Illegal Aliens, Crime | 54 Comments

All along, I thought “Viva La Raza” meant “Long Live The Race”.  Courtesy of the Washington Times, I see that perhaps it means illegal aliens, underage drinking, and drug dealing.

ICE agents coordinated with Anne Arundel police last month to round up nine illegals who authorities say were involved in underage drinking and the sale of illegal drugs at a Mexican restaurant and bar in Glen Burnie called Viva La Raza.

With that new understanding, this begins to make some sense:

This woman must have been drunk, and on drugs.  That might well explain what happened.  Now all I have to do is figure out what the heck is going on with the National Council of La Raza, because they often make about as much sense as this lady did.

Meanwhile, another MS-13 member, this time in Stafford County, plead guilty to murder and will get a life sentence, apparently getting a much more effective prosecution than the MS-13 murderers who were tried in the C.J. Angelos case.  The Manassas Urinal-Massager, nor the Richmond Times-Dispatch which initially reported this are divulging the immigration status of this convicted murderer.  I’m certain since it wasn’t mentioned, and these newspapers always do such a good job covering the news, that the lack of any mention of the convict’s immigration status must mean that this was not an illegal alien.

Likely lesson number two for today: Illegal aliens get more lenient treatment than legal residents and citizens from the justice system in Virginia.

A drug dealer uses the term la raza. Therefore the term itself represents drug dealing and everyone who uses that term is for drug dealing and gangs. That’s pretty stupid and contributes nothing to a discussion of the issues.

  2. CitizenofManassas said on 8 Dec 2007 at 8:01 am: Flag comment

Maybe not. But, if you listen to the Washington COMPOST and other defenders of illegals, every single illegal is hard working and does a job that an American does not want to do, and of course is not a drain on the system.

I’d like you to provide a link to one comment in the Post that makes the claim that “every single” illegal is hard wroking and does a job that an American does not want to do and is not a drain on the system.

ElGuano - the fact that drug dealers choose to associate with this term gives it an inherent, negative connotation. It’s not necessarily the word itself, but those who use it in a pejorative, exlusive way that make it an un-American, racist phrase used by hispanics. In other words, you don’t hear of latino drug delaers or gangs calling themselves “Los Patriots de Americana”; now do you?

ElGuapo, perhaps you could sue the bar owner for defamation of character.

Drug dealers? More like undocumented pharmacists serving the community.

Lord knows the Viva La Raza name choice was in place to attract an Amish clientel.

How many times are we going to replay the one good thing ICE has done lately. How many of the 242 at the ADC turned over to ICE have left the country?

  14. ddpdrinker said on 8 Dec 2007 at 10:48 am: Flag comment

Left the country, only to sneak right back in again, in a lot of cases.

    ddpdrinker/One Voice,
We need that number! I know of at least one from PWC that was going to be deported. I was stricken from jury duty in Alexandria(Federal Court). Geez, I wonder why I couldn’t serve? :)
Let’s not forget the ones that get most if not all jail time suspended.

  16. One Voice said on 8 Dec 2007 at 11:38 am: Flag comment

How about ICE issues a warrent for deportation, releases them and then tells them to show up in a few weeks for a deportation hearing.

So if 100 leave and 60% come back we are down 40%.
I still don’t see how anyone can claim 287(g) is working until we see how many are actually deported. The effectiveness measure is not identified it’s deported.

That’s like saying a stolen car case is solved when you find the car instead of saying it’s solved when you find the thief.

Did you see this article about Anne Arundel County? Looks like they are taking the lead just like my native PWC. Immigration can’t be ignored any longer. Politicians at all levels nationwide need to WAKE UP!! We need a secure border, need employers to STOP hiring these illegals, and roll up the “red carpet” that’s been laid out for the illegals. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

  20. One Voice said on 8 Dec 2007 at 12:06 pm: Flag comment

Lafayette - Let’s start with how many from PWC ADC have been deported since July. That would be a good number to have. It needs to be qualified though - the actual question is “how many illegals sent to PWC ADC since July have been physically returned to their country”.

The way I understand it is that ICE issues a deportation warrant, releases them (unless they are a truly violent criminal) and asks them to show up for a deportation hearing.

The second question would be “of the 242 turned over to ICE, how many were issued a deportation warrant”. The third would then be “of those issued a deportation warrent how many showed up at federal court?”

THEN we will know if 287G is working or not.

To measure an effective outcome of the program, you have to know what your outcome is (turned over or deported I vote for deported) and have consistant data that is easy to obtain.

Also, we should closely follow the case of the woman who abused her children and then they found out she was illegal. If she is not deported I would question the program and be conerned about the future.

  21. Lafayette said on 8 Dec 2007 at 12:22 pm: Flag comment

    One Voice,
Wow! You’ve really got brain working overtime now. You bring up great questions. I will have to some digging. I like you want the facts first.
I certainly think the “worst of the worst” will be dealt with first as they should be. I agree the woman is the case to watch. I certainly consider child abuse one of the worst crimes. She should be DEPORTED. All criminals from small time to big time that are here illegally need to be sent packing back to their county of origin, and take their “anchor babies” with them. They are free to return to the USA when they are of legal age and can support themselves, be productive, and of course not be a drain on the taxpayers. By any chance do you have a link to that story, or where I might be able to find it?
As far as measuring the effectiveness consistant data is a must and needs to be made available for easy public access as well.
There’s still lots of dust to settle yet. I feel at least now we are on are way to getting control of the illegal immigration in our county.

  22. Lafayette said on 8 Dec 2007 at 12:29 pm: Flag comment

    One Voice,
I forgot to add this to the measuring factor. There’s much information that is public record it’s just not easily accessable.
With the nation watching the measures taken here PWC. I would think they would have a very user friendly means for all to see. I want the details as I imagine many others would too.

  23. One Voice said on 8 Dec 2007 at 12:31 pm: Flag comment

I agree we are on our way but don’t want to be once again let down by the feds. They MUST do this remaining part. WE are doing most of the hard work for them for free.

Yeah, if that woman doesn’t go, I will have very strong doubts about the program overall. She is one of the worst of the worst. Her children should be adopted and given the opportunity for sanity and love.

In light of ‘innocent until proven guilty,’ it is difficult to say what will happen to Marilou Lopez until her child abuse trial. If found guilty, the answer becomes clearer. If aquitted, your guess is as good as mine.

Okay, I will cede to the practicallness of Dolph’s comments regarding innocent until proven guilty. I still support the system iffy as it is…

I have very few “absolutes” (!) in my life - child abusers are one.

But let’s not get sidetracked (which I started) - we need the actual numbers of deported and those that failed to show up for their hearing.

Just checked the PWC case management login and entered the defendent’s name Marilu Lopez and if I am reading it correctly, trial was on 5 Dec., pleaded guilty and was given 12 months jail with all suspended except for time served. I am not sure if I am reading this correctly but that’s what it appears to me. It was non-jury trial.

Anyway, NO, I am not saying there has to be the “sucker” that has to go in and clean up other/s mistakes but in the light of things, there are steps that we all can take to to help.

With the market being the way it is we will probably see more and more of this happening. With all the calls and bitching about zoning going to the wrong house , etc….
I am just saying they can only be in so many places ( at our tax dollars expense) at one time and given the situation, we should all do what we can do.
