1st CD Special Election Today

By Greg L | 11 December 2007 | Virginia Politics, US Congress | 13 Comments

UPDATE: Wittman crushes Forgit 62%-36%, “Lucky” doesn’t break 2%

Today is the special election in the First Congressional District to pick a successor to Joann Davis, and polls will be open until 7:00PM. Republican Rob Wittman, Democrat Phil Forgit and Independent Lucky Narain are vying for this seat.

Voter turnout so far looks like it is about as expected, which will benefit Rob Wittman. With a pretty Republican district and a significant cash advantage, this should result in a Rob Wittman victory by about ten percentage points, or better. That doesn’t mean you don’t have to vote, though. If you’re in the district, make sure you get out and vote today.

There is a little blurb in the Metro section of the Washington Times entitled ACLU alerts polls of no-ID rule. It reads as follows:

“The American Civil Liberties Union asked registrars in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District to make sure poll workers tell voters in today’s special election that they don’t have to show photo identification.”

“Virginia ACLU executive director Kent Willis said the organization asked registrars yesterday to have poll workers inform voters that they can cast a ballot even if they don’t have identification with them.”

“Today’s election will determine a replacement for U.S. Rep Jo Ann Davis, a Republican who died in October from cancer.”

“Mr. Willis said the ACLU got complaints after last month’s General Assembly elections from people who said they were asked to present a driver’s license or other identification to vote.”

“Virginia law allows voters who are not carrying identification to sign an “affirmation of identity form.”

Now Krusty go can vote and say he is Greg L. by signing an affirmation of identity form. What potential for identity theft and voter fraud!!!!!

“Krusty go can vote and say he is Greg L”!?! Wow, wow again! Krusty is an old crusty lady who would never, unless comatose, pretend to be Greg L.

Ha ha, Krusty, your statement reminded me of Woody Allen playing Blanche DuBois in “Sleeper”.

Patty : “Virginia law allows voters who are not carrying identification to sign an “affirmation of identity form.”

True. And my meager understanding is that those votes are treated as provisional ballots….

“Provisional Ballots are not counted on Election Day. Your local Electoral Board will meet the day after the election to determine whether each provisional voter was qualified to vote. ”

Which is something that the electoral board should and must do to prevent FRAUD.

Wittman wins 62-36. Wittman won every precinct in PWC except Powell where he was tied by Forgit.

Let the bloodletting begin. Republicans need to track down each and every Republican that was behind the Lucky Narain vote-splitting scheme and excommunicate them from the party. Attempting to cause the defeat of a Republican nominee so that their particular Republican candidate could pose a challenge in 8 months blasphemes Ronald Reagan’s principles of supporting fellow Republicans.

I would like to congratulate the Democratic Party in Prince William for yet another fine showing and say thanks for all of the hard work they put in to turn out the vote.

A Republican won in Potomac, Dumfries, and River Oaks?? Are you kidding me? I am standing at my desk applauding….Bravo.
