Kaine cannot throw up his hands on this issue. The state does have a responsibility here. The fact that the illegal apologists throw this same argument out tells me that our governor likely is being pressured/influenced by other forces rather than listening to the voice of the people in the Commonwealth.

The people may think it is the number one issue, but in reality, how much is it being talked about in the presidential debates. The Democrats are running from the issue. Then you got the Republicans…McCain is for “Guest Worker”, Rudy…well enough said on his record…Then Huckabee..he’s made enough statements that makes you question where he will take the issue. And George Bush….good grief. Outside of Lou Dobbs, who in the media is anti illegal immigration?

Kaine better be careful. He is playing right into the Republican’s hands. Mark Warner is an odds on favorite to win the Senate, but the more Kaine digs his heels in, the more it hurts Warner.

TWICE IN ONE DAY?

FEMA restores all of these primary missions after a disaster.

They sure do! Katrina and New Orleans is a prime example. They did a wonderful job there didn’t they? Those $2,000 vouchers given to ANYONE with their hand out really helped too.

It works everywhere it has been instituted. How can it not work?

You forgot to mention the Senate the Republicans will most likely lose next Fall. Creigh Deeds has already announced is candidacy for the Democratic nomination for governor. Brian Moran has said he’ll wait to make his decision until after the legislative session. So who is the presumptive Republican nominee to take back the state house?

And the FEMA anology is flawed. FEMA is actually swcondary support to local disaster response, not the first line. FEMA is called in when the problem is too big for local response or too widespread. A better analogy would be to ask if the states should take over for the military and each design their own strategy for Iraq. The courts have made it clear that immigration is in the federal domain. Before labelling Kaine’s policy as a cop-out, how about putting more pressure on the President and Congress to do their job. Before asking the states to foot the bill for yet another federal responsibility, let’s get our money’s worth from the Feds.

On Loudoun Board, Growth May Trump Immigration Issues

Loudoun County’s much-publicized election-year effort to root out and drive away illegal immigrants may fizzle six months after it began, as a slate of Democrats with different priorities prepares to take control of the Board of Supervisors next month.

Loudoun was quick to follow Prince William County last summer in attempting to crack down on what some board members said were problems created by illegal immigrants, and many elected officials used the issue in their fall campaigns.

But the Loudoun board that will be sworn in Saturday has a different mission.

“The emphasis is going to be on issues of growth and transportation and education,” said C. Kelly Burk (D), one of four Democrats who defeated incumbent Republicans in the Nov. 6 election. “I want to get back to what people are concerned about.”
