I am FED UP with these people buying up properties, trashing them (or making them disappear by fire or demo) and then abandoning them - what a blight!

Archie,
I've always thought arson/insurance fraud. It all just does NOT
add up.
Redawn, we should go. Manassas City welcomes those natives from the county unlike Manassas Park. Although, I find the "unamed" wanting to purchase the property for office space
is pretty SCARY. Think about it.

I have said this before, and here I'll say it again.

Several months ago the Manassas City Council was addressed by several interested parties from Liberty Street asking that the house be restored rather than demolished. The MC Council did not listen!

Following that MCC meeting, I personally spoke with several residents who are close neighbors to that property. They all said the same thing, that it was their belief that the fire was arson and an insurance fraud case.
They told me exactly what the plans were for the property and so far everything they said has been correct! Remember, this was months ago!

Further, I have also been told that there is an (un-named) attorney in Manassas City who has already agreed to purchase an office building on that property, should one come to be constructed there.
This, I believe, was the plan all along!

Much more profit in this than to continue to run a boarding house (for illegals) that is falling apart.

The residents I spoke with said that a few days before the fire, Uhaul trucks arrived and all contents were removed from the house, all occupants were moved out, then days later about 0500 on June 18, 2006 a man stood at a front door across the street saying that there was a fire (in Spanish)! That neighbor / resident made the call to 911.

There are some good pictures on the Manassas VFD website. It is evident that this placed the lives of many people in jeopardy.

http://manassasfire.com/previous_headlines/june2006/2006_06_18_9500_liberty_st/2006_06_18_9500_liberty_st.htm

I could go on about this but what good would it do?
Please show up at any hearings or MCC meetings that have to do with this property. Let's get rid of this cancer.

"f the owner has a business that is capable of repairing the home’s deficits, why didn’t he do so?"

His business is not licensed to do electrical or plumbing work, as I noted above.

I am glad that some Liberty St. residents came and spoke about the historic nature of the street. I don't believe the City needs a multi-use building on that site. Am I the only one who was not surprised that the house burned in the first place? I drive by the lot every day. For years I noticed that when the house was standing, there were electric cords that extended out of the upper windows into the lower windows. I remarked more than once to my husband "There's a building code violation." No one who works for the City noticed these cords? The cords were on the side of the home that faced Pr William St. If the owner has a business that is capable of repairing the home's deficits, why didn't he do so?

I think the government should be able to seize private property of not only illegal aliens, but also legal residents who "aid and abet". Just imagine a legal resident losing his/her house and cars and everything for housing illegals in a bunk house. That would send a clear message to those thinking of doing the same thing. Sorry folks, but we need to start getting tough on this issue.

Where is the Kelo decision when you need it? While I am vehemently against the seizure of private property by government and subsequent transfer to another private citizen, and think the Supreme Court should reverse itself on this, this might be one time that it would serve a useful purpose until it gets overturned.

park'd -
I agree with you 100%, particularly with "If it were some white dude with a sign claiming that all Hispanics are racist then the sign would have been dealt with a long time ago."
You are absolutely correct. We are being discriminated against, and once again, there is a blatant double standard being applied.
Enough of this PC crap - and let's get on with it ! Do you hear us, City Council? Enough already!

This guy has been getting away with this sign for a long time now so it's obvious to me that the Manassas city council has no desire to take him on. I see this as another failure in local city government for letting this travesty go on as long as it has. If they 'really' wanted to slap this guys wrists then they would have already done it. If it were some white dude with a sign claiming that all Hispanics are racist then the sign would have been dealt with a long time ago. I see this failure to act as nothing else but white apologists with weak knees and no stomach. I hope the council is reading this as well.

Again we are slapped in the face by this guy. How many times do we accept it before we get tired of going back to allow him to thumb his nose at us again? I hope the council decides against it and can stick to their guns. If not, I am sure elections will help weed out the apologists.
