Loudoun County Democrats Reach Out To Illegal Aliens
By Greg L | 4 January 2008 | Loudoun County, Illegal Aliens | 34 Comments
Unless Democrats want to be viewed as the party that supports the continued unlawful presence of illegal aliens in our communities, they’re going to have to stop pulling dumb stunts like this:
LEESBURG, Va. (AP) - The new Democratic majority on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is backing off on the previous board’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
The board voted Thursday not to follow through on a decision to ask the state legislature to allow the county to withhold business licenses and building permits for illegal immigrants and businesses that hire them.
Why in the heck would a board member (in this case not one, but several) in Loudoun County, which has significant problems with illegal aliens in many neighborhoods such as Sterling Park, want to promote the unlawful business practice of hiring illegal aliens? This is a hugely unpopular policy position, and while Loudoun’s recent elections were largely a referendum on development, actions like this can only raise the profile of the immigration issue and cause a groundswell of opposition. American Solutions reported in their recent poll that 78% of the public feels that there should be heavy monetary fines against employers and businesses who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, but the current Loudoun County board wants to coddle illegals and those who employ them. To say that this is politically stupid is a huge understatement.
For those in Loudoun who want to put an end to this chicanery, the only group that appears to be effective on this front is Help Save Loudoun. Actions like this from the board should definitely help them swell their numbers.

Our loss is their gain! The will come around and see the error of their ways soon enough.
Is the day labor site still closed in Sterling? Are Democrats REALLY that ignorant, or just too out of touch with reality? Are all Dems keeping in step with Congress by sticking their heads in the sand?
Sometimes it feels like living in one of those Billy Jack movies.
Like I say, the M-burgers are afraid of having to clean their own toilets.
How is this reaching out?
They don’t want to spend tax on a Fed issue
Feel the spin
I think Anonymous is afraid of the same thing.
Get a handle Anonymous. You can do it, come out of the shadows and be recognized.

This could very well be the same action we could expect if a dem president is elected. They want the kum bah yah feeling for everyone. The last thing we need is that.
They had the chance and now they are going to let it slip through their hands. I can only imagine all of that hard work going to waste. I wonder how many of these people will be on the board after the next election?
This is a move against the one developer loving supervisor that was re-elected. Although he was on the wrong side of growth, he stumbled onto the right side of the illegal alien problem. Who knows if his effort was real or just because he saw the light of people being fed up with growth and decided to distract them by concentrating on immigration.
In any event, the rest of the board wants to teach him a lesson so they are sticking it to him on this. Although I admire the new board’s stance on growth, this type of spiteful behavior is not really smart in the long run as Loudoun will suffer.
Tell me, does any group of supervisors actually manage to act like adults instead of a bunch of snotty nosed middle schoolers ready for revenge? This tit for tat is getting a little ridiculous.
I’m very very disappointed with this, especially after some of the statements from most of the Democrats during the campaign. They didn’t want to so much crack down on the illegals themselves, but their employers. Until now that is.
Hey, they got what they wanted so now let them wallow in their decision to elect a liberal body that they knew would buckle on the illegal immigration issue as their first order of business. With any luck, all of the illegals in PWC and MP will head off to greener pastures in Loudoun. The stupidity of voters never ceases to amaze me.
park’d,
Hopefully there and Arlington. Apparently they can afford them.
This is political payback pure and simple. The Supervisor leading this charge is Stevens Miller. It did not take Supervisor Miller long to get on the wrong side of this important issue. Most of us who observed and worked the elections in Loudoun are not surprised. Mr. Millers actions are both foolish and petty. Turning back thoughtful positive public policy out of spite and disregarding the ramifications and costs to Loudouns tax paying legal citizens is simply irresponsible.
We have our work cut out for us with this guy.

Help Save Loudoun
Check out the link at NLS for the Kelly Burk fan club view of how the meeting went. We do need to call out Susan Buckley for voting the right way on this and listening to her constituents. Miller also led the charge to take the Economic Development Committee chairmanship away from Lori Waters, I guess because she’s an evil Republican.
I know I was in favor of booting out the crooks who were creamed in the election, but most of them were absolutely not for real enforcement of immigration laws since it would bite into the bottom lines of their developer masters. They were posturing for the election, and their pattern of votes showed they really never cared about over-development and its negative impacts on our taxes and influx of cheap labor sources. If there were more Waters clones on the last board we would still have a Republican majority.
This is definitely a step backward. I hope the citizens of Loudon will raise the roof over this. It is time for them to make the supervisors phones ring off the hook.

I have a better idea that is based upon free enterprise principles rather than further Government empowerment to pry deeper into business and private affairs. To everyone so concerned about illegal immigration, when you encounter a business employee you feel may be here illegally, demand they or their employer present proof of legal status.
If they do not or will not - take your business elsewhere, dry your own auto at the car wash, clean your own house, cut your own lawn, make your own fast food lunch, bus your own tables at the restaurants, etc.
My personal opinion is we would be better off trying to find a way of deporting all the lazy native born Americans who are not willing to work for a living or take advantage of free public education. I am more sympathetic to people who come here willing to support themselves, as long as they learn the one and only official native language (ENGLISH), pay taxes, and obey the law.
Tom, you forgot…the “come here legally route”.
Tom: I agree with you on your post but take exception to your last sentence. The problem that we have with illegal aliens is precisely the fact that they won’t learn English, don’t pay their fair share of taxes and many of them aren’t obeying the law(s). On top of that, they are rubbing it in our faces on a daily basis with their absurd Latin machismo sense of entitlement.
Jeez.
Yeah - customers should demand verification of immigration status. And demand to see the corporate tax returns to make sure that the company is paying its fair share of taxes. And maybe perform unannounced OSHA inspections of the company’s work locations. Monitor the company’s compliance with EPA regulations too.
Enforcement of the law is the responsibility of government not customers, not ordinary citizens. The government takes a vast fortune in taxes away from the taxpayers (as a whole) each and every day in order to pay for things like enforcing the laws. If corporate executives ignored laws and regulations there would be a hue and cry to put them in jail. Why should we tolerate less from elected officials?
Tom, so you are saying that illegals are doing the work that Americans wont do? Wow, I never thought of it like that before! You may be on to something here.
You’ve got some reading to do. I suggest you take a couple of days off work (I assume you are not one of those lazy Americans mentioned in your post) and start reading some of the previous blogs.
[…] 2: BVBL notes this action, too. He also makes a mention of a state Senate bill that’s been introduced that would […]
anon…I ask all prospective companies that I want to hire their process for ensuring that they or their subcontractors do not hire illegal aliens. Those that don’t provide satisfactory evidence….DON’T GET THE JOB! Period. Additionally, I request detailed proposals! I want to see the labor hours/costs and material costs as separate items. That way I can assess what kind of service I am getting. I wouldn’t expect to pay $100 per hour per person when people show up are only making $10 per hour per person. That raises a whole load of questions that need answers. So yes, it is all of our responsibility to help do our part. Once businesses realize that consumers are cracking down and demanding change they will have no choice but to abide or go out of business.
Anonymous-enforcing our laws is the responsibility of every member of our community, from the neighborhood to the world. Think of what a different world we could live in if everyone followed the rules.
Question: Does anyone have any information beyond this little blurb from wjla?

There wa a story on today’s WT or MJM about a shouting match at a Culpepper board meeting between Rimeikis and another member in regard to trying to pass a no loitering ordinance. Rimeikis is claiming it is a thinley veiled attempt to discriminate against the Latinos who are looking for day jobs. They have been banned from some shopping centers and are now lining Rt. 29 in Culpepper looking for work. Rimeikis sounds like he has no problems with having illegals in Culpeper looking for work. He is the kind of person they need on that commission. NOT! Culpepper is going to seek advise from the Attorney General’s office on the legality of passing a no loitering ordinance.

That article about the mayor of Culpepper is in the MJM on page 3. There is also a story on page 1 about a couple from MP being abducted by 2 Latinos and dumped out in SW Virginia. Article said they formerly lived at the address of the abducted couple. Sounds like a “boarding” house was being run IMHO.
Thanks for all the info, Vigilant1.
Mostly wondering what those recommendations to the Governor will look like… will read up on the excursion to SW Virginia…
Well how quickly things change. Yes the old board went way too far and was way too chummy with developers, but we in Loudoun are going to be shocked at the crap this new board is going to do. Let’s all get ready for ultra liberal votes that are going to cost us millions and move us backwards. The funny thing is that the only Democrat who has always been on the correct side of this issues was Phyllis Randall. She took major heat for her position and was cut out of the whole VLF/ Scott York love fest. We have made a huge mistake in Loudoun and we are all going to pay big for it over the next four years, but I don’t want to hear any whining from the crew at TC, they have only themselves to blame. I don’t care what they say, I would take Tulloch over McGimsey Clem over Burke and Snow over Miller any day.
The Patriot and Johnson:
I just don’t buy your arguments. Why stop at immigration status if it’s everybody’s duty to enforce the law? Should I ask to see the corporate tax returns so I can assess if the company is in compliance with applicable tax law? Should I be able to run a background check to make sure that none of the employees have outstanding warrants? Where does it end?
The government takes plenty of my money. They have all the resources they need to enforce all the laws. Asking ordinary citizens to become law enforcement experts is just asking for trouble. I have no idea whether demanding proof of citizenship or legal residence as a pre-requisite to hiring a company is even legal. If my blue eyed, blond haired son came to your door asking (in an American southern accent) to mow your lawn would you really ask if he had proof that he was in the US legally? Be honest with yourself here.
E-verify is a great idea. It puts enforcement of immigration laws where it belongs - in the hands of law enforcement professionals.
In Spite of the soaring rhetoric and promises from our Presidential Candidates this Nation faces it most perilous times since WWII. Most of the Candidates are refusing to recognize or address problems that in time will destroy this nation!
We have an arrogant, incompetent, illiterate, and inept fool in the White House, a demoralized and decimated military, plundered treasury, trashed world standing, trampled rule of Law and Constitution. While the nation is sinking under an tidal wave of Uneducated Illegal Aliens waving the Mexican flag, demanding their rights, while feasting at the trough of Public Welfare, as they Kill, Rob, and Rape thousands of American Citizens each year. .
We as a nation can survive fools in our White House. What we CANNOT survive is fools both in our Congress and white house like Bush, McCain, Hillary, Obama, Kennedy, Reid, etc. & now they want to be President! Each promising a new American, rebuilding the middle class and taking care of the poor. But what they refuse to acknowledge or recognize is no single Nation or people is rich enough to lift the 100,s of millions of poor out of poverty. In others words American & American taxpayers cannot bear the cost of becoming the welfare state for Mexico and Latin American. To attempt to do so will only reduce all Americans to poverty equaling what the uneducated invaders are fleeing from in their home countries. The poor and criminals pouring across our Borders have an average of an six grade education. Each person with less than a high education is a net cost of 20k per year for American taxpayers. This applies to American citizens as well as the millions of Illegal Aliens. So the displaced compassion endorsed by Edwards, Obama, McCain, Hillary etc. is deeply flawed. Failure to close our border or to give Amnesty to the 12 to 30 millions of Illegal Aliens in this country will in the long run, with the Chain Immigration result in adding 100 to 160 millions poor citizens to our welfare rolls. Their high school drop out rates exceed 50 percent with a high crime rate and a very high illegitimate birth rate, the very combination that keeps Mexico & Latin American a cesspool of poverty & misery!
Maybe the results is what the multinational companies and the rich dream of, a Nation full of poor docile labors like China, India, Mexico so the rich can live like the kings of old and the rest can live like the peons in Mexico that are pouring across our borders, but I do not believe it is the future most Americans aspire to for their children and grand children!
In all, my country, a potential benefactor and beacon for all the world - is headed right off a cliff and to an third world status!
If the Politicians with the Citizens support, decide they must do more for the worlds poor then they must find a way like an Marshall plan for Latin American. What they must not be allowed to do, though flawed logic or by criminal intent is to turn this Nation into a Cesspool of Crime, Corruption, Poverty, and Misery by continuing the open borders policy and Amnesty for the millions pouring across our borders.
In my view - and in the view of many educated thinking Americans - this has all come to pass because the Politicians, the elected and sworn stewards of this country, have allowed it to happen. Surely they should have known better…when they refused to abide by the Constitution against invasion or enforce our laws they disgraced their oath of office. One way this Nation can start to recover is for the lot of them to be gone from those hallowed halls of Congress and the White House, because most of them have become a house of party-bound prostitutes paid by the special interests, swirling and partying, amidst the rubble of their own malfeasance - taking this Nation right down with them.
As a proud and concerned American that proudly served my Country in time of War as did my Father, my two brothers and my son. I am appalled and very angry at what self severing, stupid/corrupt politicians have done to my country!
McCain, Heckabee, Hillary, Obama & the rest of the Democrats, plus Liberal Media and the rest of the open Border pro-illegal Aliens supporters professed & false compassion for Illegal Aliens is sicking. This Nation has 47 millions citizens without medical insurance, Million of our elderly chose between food and medicine every day. Millions of American children live in poverty with no chance at the American dream. Our vets. return from the war that came about by lies from Politicians without proper medical care or treatment. Yet they shower rewards on the Illegal Aliens, free medical, free schooling for their many children, no reward is too great or price to high for the American citizens to pay, for the ones that break our laws, invaded this country and demand their rights while waving the Mexican flag and Slaughtering, Raping and Robbing thousands of American Citizens each year.
The Corrupt Politicians and Liberal Media try to get the public to believe they are Compassion, & Wise for wanting open borders and amnesty. While American Citizens are racist & xenophobe if we request that our Constitution and Immigration laws be followed and enforced for all law breakers irregardless of race or nationally!
It is the money they get from business from supplying them slave labor with 20K worth of benefits paid each year by the tax payers and the Latino votes with the promise of millions more if we give them amnesty that they are really after.
If they really are Compassion and Caring there are Millions of American Citizens that have played by
the rules, payed their taxes, obeyed the laws, fought the wars and built this Nation that are in great need. The Politicians could use American Citizens to show their Compassion. But Compassion for American citizens or legal Immigrants does not get Money and Votes for our Corrupt lying Politicians.
Loyal is right.
Loudoun Insider, I laughed out loud at the post on your blog about “partisanship” by the new board: What the heck else did you expect when you got them elected? That they would thank you, crown Lori Waters queen, and start razing houses in your viewshed? What a maroon you are. I guess you need to start backpedaling on the support you gave them ALL (but DelGaudio) given the looming budget disaster, not the least of which is the payback due to the schools people. The new Vice Chair made her name on schools, and this should be fun to watch.
Gang, I hate to break it to all of you who care about illegal immigration, but you were out-single-issued in Loudoun.
That was the game plan, as it always is there.
LI and his little buddies are probably far more disturbed by Stevens Miller’s attempt to oust Waters from her Economic Development position than by anything else the new board may cook up.
Let this be a warning for what to expect of the Presidential election.
This all reinforces the need for a state org such as STOD.
May God help us all.
Give me a freaking break, j.o. The a-holes who were booted out of office were going whether I existed or not, they were just that out of touch with their supposed constituents. I could give a rat’s ass what you think of my post. As with so many national level Republicans, if these jerks cared more about their constituents instead of their special interest financial backers we wouldn’t be in such a mess right now in so many areas, including illegal immigration. The build, build, build mentality of those idiots was soundly rejected, as it always is - they just got lucky last time and pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes with their “managed growth” mantra four years ago. The LCRC needs to find more Waters-like conservatives if it wishes to hold on to power in Loudoun County. The developer wing needs to take a back seat.
