Bob Marshall Will Announce On Monday

By Greg L | 5 January 2008 | Virginia Politics, US Senate | 30 Comments

Delegate Bob Marshall told guests at tonight’s social event hosted by Jay O’Brien that he would officially announce his candidacy for United States Senate on Monday. Bob joins former Governor Jim Gilmore as the only announced candidates for the Republican nomination, which will be decided by a convention.

This is very welcome news.

UPDATE: AP is reporting on this, and Mark Plotkin seems intrigued by the prospect of Bob Marshall’s candidacy:

[Marshall] said it was a “uniformly excellent response” that he received from contacting Republican activists and grassroots organizations from across Virginia that led him to decide to run.

WTOP political analyst Mark Plotkin said Marshall’s entry into the race brings another level of excitement because he is considered a renegade inside the Republican Party. He described Marshall as intelligent and thought-provoking.

“This causes a little excitement, flurry of anticipation and some suspense,” Plotkin said Sunday. “Any time one party differs over one or two candidates, the other party is very happy. This makes for a more interesting race.”

Not that I think Marshall can get the GOP nomination, but Mark Warner’s goons will have a field day with “chemical love canals for frathouse playboys.”

Ha ha. All George Allen had to say was “macaca”…one little word, three syllables. Let’s see…”chemical love canals”…three words, double the syllables. It’ll be a rout!!!

Who Marshall chooses to promote him will be the fast strep test. Who his supporters and advisors are. His supporters will agree that he has somewhat of a negative image. He will need credible advisors; ones that can pursuade the public that his thinking is not so limited.

Get ready for one more democratic senator from Virginia, Thank YOU Bob! I think at that point Virginia goes from purple to blue officially.

Dream Team - great expression. Marshall has a lot to overcome as far as image. He will need strong intelligent advisors that will listen to the public, tolerate differences of opinions as the man does not appear to do that. We shall see. This will be interesting from several perspectives.

It sounds like a miracle, not a make-over is needed here. Marshall does not compromise. Marshall stands by his convictions. I don’t know why anyone thinks that Virginians want an extremist as a Senator.

    ————————————————————

Krusty doesn’t need prozak. Krusty is a chix.

Marshall gives most thinking women that eeeeek feeling. Just stay tuned and see what else unravels. That trip on the Luv-Kanal is going to look like…well..a bad joke. I actually cannot imagine a Virginia delegate saying anything so crass on the floor of the General Assembly. In my day, we used to call that locker room talk.

Lafayette, You obviousley dont like Marshall much.

However, he has been one of the best advocates for going after illegal aliens in the General Assembly.

Warner will certainly be an apologist for the illegal alien population in Virginai and in the U.S.

    Marshall pro-life, Warner pro-choice.

Lafayette, which issue is more important to you as a voter? Illegal aliens or abortion?

    Im just curious.

    Manassasinsider,
That’s a tough decision. He’s not currently my Delegate. I’m thankful for that. I am very open minded. I do NOT care for a RADICAL approach to anything, I want to hear and see RATIONAL.
Curious..sorry you’ll just have stay that way.
I’m curious too. Why do you call yourself an “insider”. I don’t require an answer. ;)

One should not have to choose. As a voter, we can insist that our representatives cover all the bases. Interestingly enough, when dealing with Marshall, it isn’t just about abortion.

Bob Marshall is a dimwitted extremist with poor communication skills and a spotty personal history.

I hope he wins the nomination and embarrasses Republicans nationwide.
