Vigilant1, I think you may be on the receiving end of the problem created when groups or individuals mailbomb their supervisors.

Whatever the reason, both Stirrup's and Stewarts office should have had the courtesy of at least responding that they did in fact receive my correspondance. I have NEVER received an acklowdgement to any of my previous correspondence. That is what ticks me off more than anything. I pay taxes just like everyone else in this county and deserve to be heard or to have a response to a question. The subject had nothing to do with illegal immigration.

As far as I know, this is still a free country and there are no restrictions of the free movement of it citizens. These scumbags at the 7-11s are trying to intimidate people they perceive as a threat to them. There is no law that prohitits anyone from taking a photograph on public property. If I were the victim, I would be checking with a lawyer about a case against the police department for their behavior (or lack thereof.)

You are too kind. I will be at the next 7:30 citizen's time that's for sure. I've been to busy to make it down there since November. I sure don't want them to think I've vanished.:)

CJC, I think that a citizen should boycott a store if the management won't do more to assure its customers' safety. I'd start with a letter to the store manager or district manager...someone familiar with the store and not someone in Japan (in the case of 7-11). In the case of small franchises or mom-and-pops, the owner may think that it's probably not worth taking time off work to go to court, but that ignores the fact that there may be a liability issue if someone is hurt on their property. (Some owners think they have adequate insurance to cover this situation.)

And rather than confront individuals, I think you should continue to send your pictures to the Board or the store owners. Confrontations between loiterers looking for work, photographers whose primary interest is documenting these workers for ICE ,or to intimidate them, merely make it more dangerous for all of us who could be caught in the crossfire.

Vigilant1, I think you may be on the receiving end of the problem created when groups or individuals mailbomb their supervisors. The staff (both the individual supervisor's and the county's) is limited and can answer only so many queries.

I think the resolution has placed the police department in a precarious situation where they are trying to avoid being charged with profiling. If you keep bombing the PD with complaints aimed at Hispanics, regardless if they're loitering at 7-11, you'll give the resolution's opponents fodder for a legal challenge.

Just to lighten the mood.

Why doesn’t she bring in a small cooler with a coke from home and some ice. You know, brown bag the coke. Consider spending money on GAS to go to 7-11 (known overpricing) to buy a coke.

She doesn’t need a camera, she need financial guidance…

Lafayette, no one can equal you. There were very few people there. Six or fewer speakers.

Anonymoustoo,
I tried posting a few minutes ago.I got caught up in duplicate comment and still don't see comments. So here goes again...

I believe you understand where I'm coming from and what I've done. There have positive changes, and there ain't no denying that.
I have some of the same questions you do. However, it is called Citizen's Time for a reason. This is my belief of course and I know there are those out there that don't agree with me on that. Oh well, that's not my problem. I've seen nasty comments about myself from CT and it did NOT stop be from going back.
I am NOT about vilgiantism one damn bit. It was suggested on here one time that the "gun toters" march down my block and protest the illegals. That is a LUDICROUS idea if I ever heard one.
I have to say I've not had any trouble they did yesterday.

anonymoustoo
The problem is that many of "the proper authorities" are doing nothing to fix the problem. Why should a citizen be made to feel uncomfortable in a store? Why should we have to live this way? A grassroot movement has begun to work to get things changed. If we don't do it, who will? If we just put up with it and don't rock the boat, do you think things will get better??

I think you do understand where I am coming from. I've never advocated vigilantism or some of the other things I've heard on here. There is a way to get things done. I have some of the same questions you do, trust me. However, it is Citizen's Time and most citizens are not lobbyist. I have seen several nasty things said about me after going to citizen's time, and it didn't stop me from going back. I urge all citizens to get involved in what ever way they can. It takes a community effort not just the effort of a few. I said it before. I've been taking pictures for quite sometime, and I personally haven't any run in with them.

Lafayette, I have no doubt that you've worked to improve your neighborhood. My complaint is not with you because you've taken the time to find out which office, jurisdiction, etc. tackles which chore. It's the drone of uninformed speakers at Citizens' Time with whom I have an issue. It doesn't present a professional or informed appearance to berate the Board for situations over which they have little control or to show a lack of knowledge about which governing body does what.

I look at the info presented by the 7-11 woman and wonder why she couldn't get a soda in her own office building or bring one from home. Why go to a store where the loiterers make her uncomfortable? Why aim a camera at these men who make her uncomfortable when a confrontation is likely? If a police officer told her to do this, she should have dealt with that officer...perhaps even calling him or her when she was on her way to the 7-11. Basically I think it's nuts to try as an individual to enforce immigration law. That doesn't mean that I think it's a bad idea to voice your opinion to your representatives, but I'm not interested in seeing Minutemen or vigilantes stirring up confrontations in which our police have to become involved.

Lafayette on 8 Jan 2008 at 4:41 pm:
If my blood pressure gets to the boiling point I just may call him. What gripes me the most is the fact that there has not been at least an acknowledgement of my correspondance any time I have written or e-mailed him. Someone is not doing their job in that office. He doesn't have to agree with me on my suggestions but at least have the common courtesy to acknowledge the fact that they did indeed receive my correspondance.

Enough ranting for today. :o)

Advocator,
Thank you, sir.
V1,
I haven't emailed either of the lately I just pick up the phone and call them. We all know I'm not the best written person. I call Stirrup's office at least twice a week, and Corey's every couple of weeks or when I need to. I talked to Wally just last week. I would hardly consider The Honorable Stirrup the same as his predecessor. I would like to talk to you sometime. I thought the same until 6/18/07 when I first spoke face to face with Mr. Stirrup, and I've had nothing but positive results. We can let them ignore us. Call them please!

I dunno, Lafayette. There were a lot of loose ends there.

Sounds like the speaker's loose ends were the result of the police inaction. Now that the speakers complained about the way the police handled the situation, do you think the BOS will follow-up with Charlie on why the complaintants got treated the way there were re showing ID and not the perps? I'm not too happy with Mr. Stirrup's/Stewart's office. I have sent two e-mails (one before Christmas and a follow-up due to lack of acknowledgement yesterday) and still no response. And I voted for both of them. This is quite common I guess to ignore a subject you don't want to address. Pretend you never received it. His predecessor was the same. Would not return phone calls or written correspondance. Oh well, such is life in PWC!

anonymoustoo,
I do think she did great it was her first time speaking there that I've seen at least. Property Code doesn't want pictures from citizens they say they can get their own. The same is true of PWPD when they come out for taggings. Oh and they want to see my ID when I'm the complaintant. I'm glad their are looking out for my identity, I would for it to be stolen. I and others have forwarded these pictures to the BOS, and some others. I do a lot more than is revealed on this blog. I have been quite successful at getting changes for the better around here. You fail to realize this. If you'd care to discuss this further we can. Contact Greg for my email.

I dunno, Lafayette. There were a lot of loose ends there.

Some of those speakers hurt your cause more than they help...they're oblivious as to what jurisdictions (local, state, or federal) have the ability to solve problems and they drone on and on at each meeting. Sooner or later, the Board will think they're merely crackpots even though they'll get a little lip service. You'd be better off finding the department that is in charge, sending them your photos, and sending copies to the appropriate politicians.
