Replacement Open Thread
By Greg L | 11 January 2008 | Blogs | 300 Comments
The existing weekly open thread got three hundred comments, which seems to be the magic number for this version of Wordpress to fall over and stop rendering a page. I’ve turned off comments on that thread and it’ll now display properly, but you’ll need somewhere else for that free-wheeling discussion. This is it.
I’ve been putting off upgrading this site to the latest version of Wordpress because of some incompatibilities with the modifications I’ve made and some of the plugins I use, but I guess I’m going to have to bite the bullet and finally do this upgrade. Not what I wanted to spend my time doing right now, but this is a rather annoying bug. In the meantime, don’t pound on these thread too hard.
The opinions expressed here are solely the views of the author, and not representative of the position of any organization, political party, doughnut shop, knitting guild, or waste recycling facility, but may be correctly attributed to the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy. If anything in the above article has offended you, please click here to receive an immediate apology.
You can follow the discussion through the Comments feed.
Thank you. This is extra work for you, right?

For you liberals that say the mexican consulate is not “aiding and abetting”. In fact, this article says “The consulate will aid Mexicans regardless of their immigration status, Sarukhan said.” The article also points out how Huckabee is involved in setting the one up in Arkansas.
Hey Dolph, you were the final commentor. You sunk the ship.
Now you can be “DOLPH 300″ (Winner of the Bring down the Thread and make more work for Greg Award).
Dolph, who are you talking to in the last thread that was closed down…about misquoting you? I didn’t quote you. If I did, show me the quotes please! The argument has been made that some legal residents are “afraid” and some newcomers are “afraid” so they stick together. That is what I was referring to. However, that is a bunch of nonsense. It is time for people to demonstrate that they want to fit in with the general public! They sure have a lot of courage at a BOS meeting though…right?
OV, this probably will take about four to six hours to upgrade and fix all the things that will be broken because of the upgrade. That’s why I’ve been putting it off, since there doesn’t seem to be any security issues, and hadn’t been any observed bugs.
I saw this happen before on an inactive thread, and now I understand what caused it. Now I just got to take the time to make the fix.
Of note, we crossed over the 49,000 comment mark, and at this rate will soon have our 50k comment winner. By the look of the spam queue lately, I’ll bet it’ll be a porn advertisement coming from one of the legion of virus-laden machines on Comcast’s netspace.
Thanks for the new thread, Greg. I am not sure how to pound it or not to pound it. Help!
Whine, Cry! OV is trying to get me thrown off of here!! (just kidding)
Patriot,
I don’t know…and don’t have time to go look now. I have to go bash some heads. If you didn’t do it, then I wasn’t talking to you.
LOL, you will have to fudge that one and give to someone else.
I am trying to figure out how to say thanks for the time you spend on our behalf. Most of this communication tool is greatly taken for granted - on my part because I haven’t really a clue as to how it works. You provide a service; not work for us. I WILL remember that in the future.

This is crazy! This is the church that barack obama belongs to! According to the Bible…Christianity is “colorblind”. I am not sure I understand the approach of obama’s church. Discuss!
Mr. Obama made an interesting comment regarding his projected performance in Iowa. He said that he did not think he would do well because “there’s not a lot of people like me in Iowa.” Racist? Or just me?
Committment to Africa…Puhleeeze!!!
IH, tolerance is of course a relative term. Of course there were instances of intolerance, and I said they are often cited. My Irish-American brother in law has a copy of the “No Dogs or Irish Allowed” saloon sign hanging in his kitchen. However, immigration was encouraged by this country, and system of processing was established for new Americans.
You claim to be a historian, so perhaps you have access to data that I don’t. But your claims that half of the European immigrants came here illegally flies in the face of every thing I have ever read or learned. If you want to provide a specific link to this information I would truly like to read it.
No one refuted my last point. What do you say to those people in foreign countries that have had their place at the table taken by another? How can our immigration laws, or any of our laws for that matter, ever be respected if we make no effort to show we value them by enforcement?
I am waiting for the liberals to comment on the obama link I posted! Come on liberals….I would love to hear your comments!

Here it is again!
Patriot,
It will be the typical liberal stance, ignore it and shove their head in the sand.
http://www.outragedpatriots.com/ is a good site for up to date info like you posted. That was actually posted on that site a couple of days ago. I found it offensive and racist myself, but of course nothing will be said because he is black and they are allowed to be racist.

jfk,
I am all for consequences, see my posts about the ex mayor getting off. HMMMM….may not be a good choice of words there.
The sooner we show consequences for actions, the sooner we will curb the ILLEGAL aliens invading the US. I am noticing more and more ILLEGALS getting caught by the law now than before. Maybe local law enforcement opened its eyes after the Houston cop was shot by one that was caught and released.
TP - Red meat! I’m abstaining. Tooooooo faaaaaaaar out!
Krusty, I’m losing respect for you. You are becoming a baiter instead of a debater.
Patriot,
How can anyone support a Presidential candidate that belongs to a group that has these 10 talking points:
About Us
We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian… Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain “true to our native land,” the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.
The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:
1. A congregation committed to ADORATION.
2. A congregation preaching SALVATION.
3. A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
4. A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.
5. A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION.
6. A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION.
7. A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.
8. A congregation committed to LIBERATION.
9. A congregation committed to RESTORATION.
10. A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.
Shouldn’t Obama have non-negotiable commitment to the USA not Africa and remain true to the US? Isn’t that liken to treason?

What do you mean Krusty? Surely you have an opinion on the link I posted regarding obama???
You see medic….you, I, and certain others on here understand that….I want to hear from the liberals! They are the ones that typically use the “race” card argument! So let us hear from them with this “clear as a bell” and recent example!
WOW…From the Trinty church website. The church Obama belongs to.
Mission
Mission Statement: What Trinity Is About
Trinity United Church of Christ has been called by God to be a congregation that is not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and that does not apologize for its African roots! As a congregation of baptized believers, we are called to be agents of liberation not only for the oppressed, but for all of God’s family. We, as a church family, acknowledge, that we will, building on this affirmation of “who we are” and “whose we are,” call men, women, boys and girls to the liberating love of Jesus Christ, inviting them to become a part of the church universal, responding to Jesus’ command that we go into all the world and make disciples!
We are called out to be “a chosen people” that pays no attention to socio-economic or educational backgrounds. We are made up of the highly educated and the uneducated. Our congregation is a combination of the haves and the have-nots; the economically disadvantaged, the under-class, the unemployed and the employable.
The fortunate who are among us combine forces with the less fortunate to become agents of change for God who is not pleased with America’s economic mal-distribution!
W.E.B. DuBois indicated that the problem in the 20th century was going to be the problem of the color line. He was absolutely correct. Our job as servants of God is to address that problem and eradicate it in the name of Him who came for the whole world by calling all men, women, boys and girls to Christ.

If this isn’t racist, what is? How do we know God is not please with the economic distribution? Is it somewhere in His teachings? Have I missed something?
http://www.tucc.org/upload/tuccbulletin_jan13.pdf
Take a look at page 14…the new membership class!
This is what I am talking about…churches like this, groups like NCLR, etc. all promote segregation! Liberals…where are your comments please????!!!!???
Patriot,
You clammed them up. I guess the next time they are getting out of hand, just toss this discussion up there and it will slow them down!!!!
What are the differences:
WET (White Entertainment Television) RACIST
BET (Black Entertainment Television OK
Miss White USA RACIST
Miss Black USA OK
Black Men Can’t Jump RACIST
White Men Can’t Jump OK
Seems to me there is something wrong with this picture. It is ok for black people to be racist, but not white people. SICKENING!!!!
As long as you’re a minority then you can say what you like! The white male is the last group that one can poke fun at!
Congressional Black Caucus
National Black Alliance
La Raza…
Just do a Google of ‘National Association of Black’ and see how many there are. Isn’t that racist?

If I was to say nigger in public, I would get all kinds of hell, but a black person says it and everything is ok. The double standard is getting old.
It is getting old real fast. All of the PC crap is just making things worse. What happened to the day when you could tell someone what you thought without fear of the PC police?
Spanking a child is ok too!!! Not abusing them, but spanking them. Trust me is doesn’t bruise their little egos, it shows them there are consequences for your actions. I had to go get my own switch for my a$$ whoopin’. I also had to make sure it would last for the entire session or I would have to go get on that would and the whole thing started over. I wasn’t abused as a child, I was disciplined. This is why God made that fleshy part on our backsides.

From what?
This could be a trend-did anyone see the Post story this week about how Obama’s relatives in Africa are looking forward to having an African as POTUS? Is Obama African or American? Where are his loyalties? Who is grooming him? I’m thinking he’s a little too close to being a foreigner? Will he put the U.S.’s interests first?
999,
From the Barack Obama website:
Whether it’s the poverty exposed by Katrina, the genocide in Darfur, or the role of faith in our politics, Barack Obama continues to speak out on the issues that will define America in the 21st century. But above all his accomplishments and experiences, he is most proud and grateful for his family. His wife, Michelle, and his two daughters, Malia, 9, and Sasha, 6, live on Chicago’s South Side where they attend Trinity United Church of Christ.

Good news from NYC
January 11, 2008
Metro Briefing | NEW YORK
Manhattan: Former Immigration Official Sentenced
A former supervisor with the federal Citizenship and Immigration Services office in New York was sentenced in Federal District Court on Thursday to 42 months in prison for taking bribes in exchange for granting citizenship to ineligible applicants, prosecutors said. The defendant, Jimmie Ortega, 59, of Lindenhurst, N.Y., admitted that from 2004 to 2006, he used his position as an adjudications officer to obtain citizenship for at least 20 immigrants in exchange for payments of $1,500 to $4,000, said Michael J. Garcia, the United States attorney in Manhattan. Mr. Ortega, who retired in April 2006, pleaded guilty last July to conspiracy and soliciting bribes, prosecutors said.
In Luke chapter 8, Jesus marveled at the centurion’s faith. Starting in verse 10: Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, “Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel.” “I say to you that many will come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven…”
I think it’s pretty clear in the Bible that Jesus doesn’t make any distinctions in regard to the color of one’s skin.
I would think that the gospel of Jesus Christ and what the Bible teaches is more important than cultural education and commitment to Africa. Every culture has some pagan practice that goes against Christian beliefs. I’m curious as to how that church responds to cultural pagan practices in Africa. I think when a church loses sight of Jesus Christ and Biblical teaching then they have strayed.
It’s getting nasty out there!

blacks in the same pot any more than you can put all whites in the same

sitting on their porches drinking moon-shine and waiting for their welfare
checks to arrive.
I personally am disappointed in both you and The Patriot for your extreme
radical views.

BTW, medic64 and The Patriot…Obama, (IMO) is a disgrace to his race,
so since he’s a mixture, I suppose I mean a disgrace to both blacks and
whites. Besides, I believe he is an undercover Muslim.

999 at 3:36 - What a fabulous addition to the open thread!
Aside: you just never know what them Texans can do.
Several of you wonder why I won’t comment on Obama’s church or faith. I don’t discuss religion with people I don’t know, and I don’t interfere with others’ beliefs, and if black churches want to be black, that’s fine with me, and if they want to improve the lives of their parishioners, that’s fine with me, and if the huge mostly white, rich churches want to be that way, that’s fine with me. I just ask to be left alone when it comes to religion. And it would be fantastic if religion could be left out of politics!
I seem to remember being called a pinko communist non-believer and probably something else on this blog. If that is the Christian spirit, then you can have it! I’m doing it my way.
Yes, I’m a softhearted do-gooder and proud of it!
Dammit, gave away the right-wing conspiracy secret, didn’t I? Not a bad strategy, once you consider it…
Patty-I tend to agree that politics has no place in religion. Do the Muslims wonder why they can’t rule themselves? The two must be separate. Those folks need to start a PAC, not a church. It’s good to apply our faith in our every day lives to help guide us. It’s not good to let it take us over.
This is beginning to sound like 1959 when folks thought the Pope was going to run the USA….. move along little doggies, move along.
corr - dogies….
Gone Fishing…please show me a statement I made that you consider “radical”???? I will be waiting!
Krusty, I’m was just trying to communicate that the mission of the church is the gospel of Jesus Christ. In fact there are many passages in the Bible that give the mission of the church, like Matthew 16, Matthew 24 and Acts 1. I have a problem with a church that equates cultural education with Biblical education. All cultures have some practices which goes against teachings in the Bible.
The best way to know God is through His word. People are not perfect but God is. In fact Moses asked God to know His ways so that he could know Him (Exodus 33:13).
By the way, did you hear Logan on the link that I gave on my previous post? God does love you.

/\/\3|)iç 64- 30 something white men would be racist. Not the groups you put up. Sarcasm…………………….
Patty is correct…if you know the Bible….there are jews and the gentiles. Gentiles refer to all people not of jewish heritage (basically everyone else). So there is NO reason to make Christianity a “race” thing. I am appalled at reading the “about us” statements on that church web site!
A political radical, originally, is someone holding political views of far left or far right varieties, or simply of an extreme kind. They are so named because they desire change at the “roots” of society.
Not ALWAYS a bad thing, Patriot - considering your blog name.
Of course I violated my own rule regarding ‘wikipedia’.
OV…thanks for your input. However, I really want to hear from Gone Fishing!
To Charlotte
Commenting on your thoughts from yesterday regarding my post on the assualt in Woodbridge thread. It certainly is obvious that you never experienced some of these situations in your neighborhood (the ones I mentioned are but a few and I could write a book about them all). Sympathizers usually fall into the following categories (which one pertains to you?)
1) You don’t live in the neighborhoods affected (yet).
2) You are Latino and think you deserve special rights at the detriment of other people.
3) You are a bleeding heart liberal whose agenda is to prevent others from solving this “non” problem.
4) You are a priviledged sort who wants to exploit these people for cheap labor to clean your home, raise your children, or run your business.
If you are #2 then do yourself and your community a favor. Spread the word. Americans are sick and tired of this and if you really have a desire to fit in and become a part of us, you will:
1) Come in legally and wait your turn.
2) Stop expecting more than the average citizen has a right to ask for.
3) Learn the language (ENGLISH).
4) Pay taxes (all of them–not just sales tax).
5) Assimilate.
6) Respect and obey our laws.
7) Stop running all these boarding houses and ruining our neighborhoods.
Is that too much to ask? We’re not asking for more than we expect from ourselves. Forget this outrageous double-standard. No race or group is superior. As far as human nature and my reaction are concerned (as if my reaction is something bad) while the detestable behaviors of the Latino community is nothing to be upset about, right Charlotte? What would you do if you had to spend all your savings to move away from this rif-raf three times? How would you like it if you had insurance money (check) meant to bury your deceased mother stolen from your mail box? How would you like your Latino neighbors using your address to have medical/lab bills sent to you instead of the dead-beat who won’t pay their medical bills? (I have enough of my own.)
On Obama–I’ve heard about his muslim background and I think we would be making a mistake allowing a potential “Trogen Horse” lead our country.
What??? No liberal input on the obama link yet? That impacts your liberal “diversity” and “multi-culturalism” concepts!!! Common…where is your input????
Wow, so much for not hitting this thread to hard. I’m going to jump in here with a letter to editor. Another way for the county to save money. I sure hope I elected officials saw this letter.

corr: Wow, so much for not hitting this thread TOO hard.
Krusty,
I agree. I don’t criticize anyone else’s religion. People may believe what they want and as long as they don’t try to legislate their religion, I don’t care who or what they worship.
Gone Fishing,
Thank you for addressing this topic. No one else obviously wanted to be baited into it.
I think Obama might be getting a bad rap based on urban legend and myth. I will try to keep an open mind about all the candidates.
To all,
I would just leave religion out of this. If you are going to take a swipe at Obama’s church, take one at Mitt Romney also. Until very recently, blacks could not assume positions of leadership in the LDS Church. It seems to me that we should just leave the religion to those who practice it.
Patriot,
You are trying to bait people. I don’t think there are any liberals present. Try one of the liberal blogs. You might have better luck drumming up some discussion.
Whatever Dolph!!!!!! The web site is crystal clear!!!!! You cannot deny it!!!! Nice smoke and mirrors!!!!
Sorry dolph….but this rides right into the arguments the liberals always cry foul on! Time to step up and make your case once and for all when the facts are clearly present!
Didn’t Obama swear in on the Koran and not the Bible?
Correct me if I’m wrong…..
TP,
I actually have no idea what you are talking about. I have no case. I am not interested in his church. I see no facts. I see opinions.
Madmom,
I believe that is an urban legend.
madmom,
Perhaps you’re thinking of Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN).
He was sworn in on the Koran.
Hey Medic,
Did it feel liberating to say the “n” word and not get slammed for it? I find it interesting that some white people want so bad to say that word. Not sure why, I find it a disugusting word. There are MANY people within the black community who also find it offensive. It use to be that for a time, the way to disenfranchise that word from white people was to use it the way black people wanted it used. Now that time has come and gone and you see an emergence of disdain for that word from the black community also. As far as Barak Obama’s church, if that is the best slam you can come up with, that is pretty pathetic. Religion should be a non issue in the 21st century and it is sad to see that some people still use it as a weapon against people, whether it be Barak Obama or Mitt Romney. The reality is that white men still have a huge advantage over who gets what when where and how in our economic engine. Please, if you can’t admit that reality we really are coming at this from two different worlds. Are we, as a country, collectively moving towards true acceptence, I’d like to think so, but we aren’t there yet. There are deep rooted inequities that still exist.
As far as illegal immigration being some new novelty in this country with hispanics, my great aunt was smuggled in through Ellis Island in a suitcase because she was sick and would not have passed the medical exam. If she had been sent back to Russia, the family would have been torn apart, and their lives would have been at risk, having just escaped the Pogroms. This story is no abberation and I wonder how many of YOUR family trees may carry the same story but you dont’ know about it.
Well, here is a quote from Sen. Obama regarding his church. Like many, we all are part of a particluar religion but we don’t necessarily agree with all the opinions of the organizaton. Particularly we all spin “Love thy neighbor” to:
When I feel like it
When they act/look like me
When I have to because someone is watching and so on.
I will admit loudly and clearly that I do spin love thy neighbor, but I don’t think it makes be a bad person. I don’t even know my neighbors - could care less.
I am part of a large religious organization, but I can tell you I have suffered through lousy Priests that don’t speak for me - but I didn’t drop the religion or go look for another church.
Read this though, it includes quotes from Mr. Obama. I also read that his mother’s approach to religion was from an anthropologic perspective and thus quite ecletic……. Maybe this will help provide another way of looking at it. If you pulled the current bulletin from my church, there would be things there that are going on with which I don’t agree.
Just for the sake of consideration…..and benefit of the doubt which most of us like to receive.
Obama’s own religious beliefs seem different from those of his church. The motto of Trinity United Church of Christ is “Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian.” Wright preaches an African-centered theology, which seeks to empower African-Americans to free themselves from white oppression.
Obama told the Monitor that he respects the theology but stopped short of agreeing with it. “There are some things I agree with my pastor about, some things I disagree with him about,” Obama said. “I come from a complex racial background with a lot of different strains in me: white, black, I grew up in Hawaii. I tend to have a strong streak of universalism, not just in my religious beliefs, but in my ethical and moral beliefs.
“I think that the particular views of the black church have been shaped by the black church, by specific struggles African-Americans have gone through,” he said. “I respect the fact that people tried to make sense out of problems of slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination in society and link it up to serve their Christian faith. I may not agree with every single aspect of it, but it’s a part of our larger religious tradition in the country.”
Lafayette:
Thanks for your link to a most erudite and articulate letter to the ed.
Not that it should matter ONE BIT, but here are the facts Madmom,
“Two press reports from Obama’s swearing-in ceremony in January 2005 mention specifically that Obama took the oath of office by placing his hand on his own copy of the Bible. The Barack Obama campaign also confirmed that it was a Bible and that the book belonged to Obama. Vice President Dick Cheney, in his role as president of the Senate, administered the oath.
After being raised outside of any particular faith tradition, Obama became a Christian in his mid 20s and is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. (Obama gave what are arguably his most extended remarks on his faith at the “Call to Renewal” religious conference in 2006; read the speech here.)
We suspect this false claim was inspired by the 2007 swearing-in of Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., an American convert to Islam and the first Muslim elected to Congress. Ellison used a Koran that once belonged to Thomas Jefferson, borrowing the rare book from the Library of Congress. “
Advocator,
You are welcome!
Mrs. Collins is one of those long time residents that love to watch how the county is spending OUR hard earned tax dollars.
madmom - It was a representative from Minnesota. Besides, there’s no law that says that one must swear on the Bible.
Patty 4:40 - Yes, I heard Logan and couldn’t help but wonder what it had to to with Obama’s church. You are preaching. Maybe you should go out missioneering somewhere else. This was what I meant, when I said I want to be left alone when it comes to religion. Of course, after having heard Greg L read the Bible on youtube a while back, maybe this IS a religious blog after all, although with all the ugly namecalling and plain hatred that shows up at times, it’d be hard to believe.
And Patty, I’m glad you know that God does love me. Sure of that???
Patriot, yours and medic’s little back and forth banter today, yours urging
feed back from “liberals” to your comments re Obama and his church,
use of the race card, etc. well, there was some implied radicalism there
and after reading the comments, I was a bit taken aback because we’ve
been on the same page so often (same with Medic) about so many topics.
Unlike medic, at least you didn’t use the “n” word.
Gone Fishing,
Looks like maybe you aren’t the only one “gone fishing”
Your comments above are very well stated and thought out.
I agree as usual. Let’s face it we agree, but there is one thing I think we are about the only ones with our eyes and ears open on.
Gone Fishing — Good “wheat from the chaff” comment. We all don’t have to agree but how you present yourself is verraa important. Good comment.
Patriot - read my post and realize it is not an endorsement or dismissal. Just something to consider in the larger scope of things
Charlotte,
I am just getting caught up and see that you replied. Thank you.
I would say that you are missing my point or I didn’t make it clear.
There is NO difference between KNOWING what is going on in the house down the street albeit drug dealers, prostitutes, etc.
I would even say some of those people have full time jobs of cleaning hotels, picking fruit or pushing paper in an office ( in response to reply)
I am speaking out for the people that know this is going as you are speaking for the people that you know sneak across borders, yes, Human beings.

Charlotte,
“I understand that you are concerned about the degradation of the quality of life in your community, but then you (Greg) say this is what happens when “illegal aliens invade our neighborhoods.” Laf, you also make that jump. But that is not a logical conclusion. You don’t know who is illegal. What I really hear you saying is “Look at what those Hispanics have done to the neighborhood”. That is akin to the rallying cry of a generation ago when the blacks moved in to white neighborhoods. But that is not socially acceptable…so instead you say “illegal aliens”, because that is a dehumanizing, demonizing term that somehow makes it all right for you to say whatever you want.”
The same cry and argument could be made about drug dealers, prostitutes, etc. with the RACE card taken out of play.
We can call them whores, crackheads, greenbean, etc.
What do you suggest to work toward a solution to the problem?”
“Charlotte said on 9 Jan 2008 at 11:04 pm:

Obit (7:01) there is nothing ambiguous about drug dealers and prostitutes. In my mind, that is not the same as people who sneak across the border to pick our fruit, clean hotels, etc. I also do not like riff raff in my community, and am only speaking up on behalf of the decent human beings we live with.”

You might have the kids doing this if the “no pants ride” happens.
Adam Tuss, WTOP Radio
WASHINGTON — Something may be a little off with some Metro riders this weekend, and it’ll be their pants.
A group of people who’ve organized on the social website Facebook, say they are going to take a “no pants ride” on the rails Saturday.
About 200 people so far say they are up for taking their pants down. No reason has been given for why the stunt is happening, but Metro is aware.
“Our police have been alerted that this event is going on,” says Metro spokesperson Lisa Farbstein.
While there is no law against riding Metro in your underwear, Farbstein has a message for the dressed-down crowd.
“We are going to be especially looking out for anybody who might be disorderly, or any sort of indecent exposure,” she says.
The no pants group is calling for anyone who wants to participate to show up at the Dupont Circle Station Saturday (fully clothed) around 4 p.m., from that point instructions will be given as to where to disrobe and which direction to head.
These types of stunts have taken place on the New York City Subway before, but never on Metro.
“It is very very odd,” says Farbstein. “And then there’s that age old question, what would your grandmother think if she saw you like that?”

Krusty,
Yes, I’m 100% sure.
Since this is an open thread, I thought some might like to hear Logan. That is why I put it on a seperate post. That post didn’t have anything to do with Obama or his church. It was just about Logan.
I’m glad you got to listen.
By the way,
For all those who gave me pot roast recipes - Thank you!!!
I made a pot roast on Monday and it was delicious. You all are great. Thanks again.
I am just totally disgusted and it is time to take a hiatus from bvbl.
Medic and Patriot, I simply do not know what to say to either of you.
Patriot, that shrill bear baiting is so ….girlie. Liberals!!!!! Shriek!!!!
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, you would think you had just seen a mouse.
Within a 2 hour period today I was sexually harrassed and called a racist by some pimple faced punk. I really didn’t want to come here to see the crap I had to look at. It is beneath thinking, decent human beings.
My email address if dolphin_moon@excite.com Please put your name in the subject line.
Write if you would like. Meanwhile, It is time to go to grounds that make me a little less sick for a while.
No one needs to apologize to me but some of you sure need to apologize to others here. The bullying and abuse is perfectly disgusting and it is time someone said so.
Dolph,
I will take me sometime to catch up ( I have not read every thread or comment) to go and read and see where you are coming from BUT I know you are a woman that I RESPECT, so this must be GOOD ( not good, but you know what I mean=YOU NOT being SO easy offended) I am going back and reading thru the comments.
OF all people that would STEP UP to the PLATE and say something that NEEDS to be said, it would be YOU.
YOU are the underdog supporter of ANY cause, BECAUSE, YOU try and put yourself in the other shoe to see where that person maybe coming from.
I applaud YOU and YOUR efforts here ( as in the past, I’ve see you being jabbed at and keep going back)
Take a swim, the same ole shnit will be here when you come back up.
I should clarify this statement:
“YOU are the underdog supporter of ANY cause, BECAUSE, YOU try and put yourself in the other shoe to see where that person maybe coming from.”
not ANY cause, but my point is that you are OPEN minded ( A SKILL, that REQUIRES LISTENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Dolph,
This is for you…lol….

redawn,
I agree with your post about Ms. Dolph. An open mind is not the “norm” around here. We don’t have all the answers. This is a great place to learn, and certainly be amazed at what you read.
dolph,
I think you might have to be checking that email more frequently while you are on your sabbatical.
Lafayette,
I still have to go back and read but I understand where she is coming from and sometimes ENOUGH is ENOUGH. ( some others have taken a break from here too and have been back)
IF she is gone for good…COUNT me in too!
redawn,
A break almost becomes mandatory at times, and looks like that time has come again for some.
Lafayette,
Yeah, the name calling shit has to stop
Lafayette,
I must of missed it but I wonder who called Dolph a racist?
By the way, I forgot to tell you that the Spic and Span man wanted to come in to do a demonstration. There is never a dull moment.
Patriot:
You want to hear from a “liberal.”
I heard Barrack Obama speak at the Call to Renewal conference in 2006. I heard, from his mouth, the words of a man who takes his faith and God’s call seriously. You attempts to ascribe the writings from the TUCC Web site are just what others here have called them–petty attempts to bait and goad others into a fight.
Read the speech (http://obama.senate.gov/speech/060628-call_to_renewal/) then tell me how much the TUCC Web site matters in how we judge the man.
Should we assume that all Catholics are child molesters because some priests seemed to find nothing wrong with touching little boys? Should we assume all Mormons are racist because the Mormon church used to classify blacks as an inferior race?
My impressions of a person are based on how they act, how they behave, and what they say. Needless to say, “Patriot,” I find Mr. Obama’s brand of Christian caring far more attractive than the robes you put on.

I guess I can post again…I am no longer tagged as spam.
Okay, come on, you know you really want too….LOL ( I cannot believe so many videos have been made with this song, maybe I will be next)
This is like watching someone sing in a shower, car, elevator and thinking NObody is watching…LOL….I have been know to get people to peek around the corner and join in or come dance…LOL

I did have the pleasure of contacting churches in this area while doing some work for a particular ministry. Many of the churches I contacted have African American/Black (you pick the term) congregations. I would go to their web sites to find out more about them. They would have mission statements in regard to the gospel of Jesus Christ, salvation, personal relationship with God which would be typical for a Christian church. I just thought that the mission statements from the church that Mr. Obama attends are a bit unusual especially the commitment to Africa and cultural education. Churches are to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to all people and like I said the “African American/Black” churches in this area have the typical Christain mission statements.
Typo: Christain should be Christian
Patty
Thank you for your posts, I did listen to them. Your sincerity is apparent and respected by me.
About the pot roast, did you try a pinch of tapioca as I suggested - it thickens it a tiny bit.
One Voice,
I forgot to get the tapioca this time but I’ll have it for next time. Yes, it was watery but it still tasted good. Low and slow is the best. I’ll make sure I get the tapioca in next time.
All and especially Billy Boy,
I sent Senator Colgan a thank you e-mail. I just might forward a copy to Lafayette so she can be my witness.
Just a pinch or two. You will be surprised!!! It’s better than cornstarch. New Englanders are famous for their pot roast dinners and tapioca is a common ingrediant.
Billy Boy,
I don’t know what you thought of Coach Joe but I was sure sad to see him retire. I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year celebration. I think I remember you said you had something wrong with your eye. I hope you get better soon. Don’t worry about responding. I understand.
One Voice,
Do you have a recipe for clam chowder?
As I said last week, Patty, YOU ROCK. Very few would do this at all let alone do it publicly. I would think anyone would need “proof”.
ooops I would NOT think anyone would need proof.
Yes!! Clam chowder. Not only is there Manhatten style with tomatos there is New England style with milk and there is also Rhode Island style which is verrraa thin. I will e-mail the recipes to a friend, unless you want to e-mail me. I think Greg has mine.
Yes, I would love the recipes. Anyway, you want to get them to me is fine.
I think Greg must be busy. I sent him a couple of e-mails. I haven’t heard back. I’m sure he gets a lot of e-mails.
I meant to say Any way you want to get them to me.
It’s late and I’m having a hard time typing.
Ask Chris.
okay
Patty
Dolph will e-mail you about where it happened.
Turn, Dolph, absolutely….you know….RIDICULOUS responses! I expected nothing other than that anyway. The TRUTH hurts! Anyone belonging to a church that publicly makes the statements that they make needs to be called out! I could care less if obama says he agrees or disagrees! He can leave that congregation and join a church that doesn’t discriminate! You don’t like this do you??? Why??? Because it CRUSHES your nonsense arguments related to it….”diversity” and “mult-culturalism. You know darn well if that was an “about us” statement for one of the churches in our local neighborhood….and it replaced the words with “white” there would be a public outcry….and you two would be on the list of complainers! Don’t for a second deny this fact! Based on your responses to alot of threads that would indeed be the case! Right? So why don’t you step down off your little pillar that you have placed yourself on and get real! I didn’t write the web site. I don’t agree with the web site….in fact….it goes against what America stands for…equality for all regardless of color. You know darn well that this is what I was talking about and addressing. You also know that you liberals were dodging it! It is time for you to get honest with yourself dolph and quit flipping around like “flipper”.
Gone Fishing…you are simply amazing??? You still have yet to provide the “radical” statement I made to make your point! “Banter” is what you came up with? Get real!
Had Enough (4:48),
You wrote:
Sympathizers usually fall into the following categories (which one pertains to you?)
1) You don’t live in the neighborhoods affected (yet).
2) You are Latino and think you deserve special rights at the detriment of other people.
3) You are a bleeding heart liberal whose agenda is to prevent others from solving this “non” problem.
4) You are a priviledged sort who wants to exploit these people for cheap labor to clean your home, raise your children, or run your business.
Here is my answer:
1-No, I don’t live in Manassas
2-No, I am not Latino
3-Yes, I am a bleeding heart liberal, and proud of it. I devote a lot of energy to solving problems in a constructive, positive way. I started reading this blog in the summer to see what immigrant-haters talk about. I only started contributing this week when I was pushed over the edge by the Day laborer thread, but I have already have learned a lot from Dolph, One Voice and even Lafayette at times.
4-No, I am not the privileged sort, but I admire the work ethic of immigrants.
Now, after I read your post, I spent time composing the categories of Immigrant-haters for you to check off which one pertains to you. But even while doing so, I felt uncomfortable sinking to that level of discourse. I was going to enter it anyway, but then I continued reading and saw that Dolph is quitting because of the uncivil conversation today, and she is the voice more than any other (from the Conservative side) that I respect here.
Therefore, I am saved from becoming something I am not. Thanks, Dolph, for your help.
Charlotte, this is from another thread. Since you don’t know where the majority of illegal aliens come from here is the report (this is from Department of Homeland Security): http://www.dhs.gov/ximgtn/statistics/publications/YrBk06En.shtm
Click on the “deportable aliens” spreadsheets and see where the majority of illegal aliens are coming from. Mexico, Honduras, El Salvadore, Guatemala. The rest of the countries are NO WHERE CLOSE to these stats.
Thank you Charlotte. I know I am not perfect and can always learn. Unfortuately, Doph has headed out for less polluted waters…….
I am going to bed but you know what? I think in the end, it is who has the most money WINS( well, I at least understand the saying NOW!)Doesn’t make it right. ( but hell, time is money and money is time…time to move on and enjoy life
) Good luck and God Bless.

Contact Dolph for my e-mail.
Patriot, I know that the majority of undocumented immigrants come from Latin America. I am not threatened by that, because I know they are not terrorists. I know why they come and I have a lot of compassion for them. I am very comfortable with the Latino culture and I enjoy the diverse area in which I live. Yes, I see day laborers and gang members, etc, but I don’t condemn a whole culture for that. I am sad that the laws are such that people risk their lives to cross the desert for a better life. Our laws need to be changed to reflect the reality of today.
Charlotte, WOW! Your response was so original! Sounds just like the liberals during the Amensty hearings! Oh…until you live next to some bunk houses that resemble the Wild West…your opinion doesn’t hold any weight!
Did I mention that I have legal hispanics in my family that would disagree with you? I know I mentioned this on this blog in the past.
Patriot, that’s how I feel. As I said above, I am a liberal and proud of it.
Charlotte, oh….okay.
Charlotte, I will give you this….at least you have the guts to say you are a liberal.
Why wouldn’t I say so? Aren’t we blessed in this country to have freedom of speech?
Charlotte, there are some on here that are liberal but deny it (in fact they think that it is a derogatory term…so I have been told in the past). Yes, we do have freedom of speech.
Well, I have to say that there are those on my side who think that right wing conservatives are evil.
I’m logging off for the night….
“Our laws need to be changed to reflect the reality of today.”
That’s right Charlotte…and the reality of today is that NO country can sustain uncontrolled immigration in conjunction with a welfare state. So our choice is to either control immigration or do away with welfare altogether. I vote for option #1…we have plenty of home-grown welfare abusers as it is, but we also have citizens (and LEGAL residents) who legitimately need public assistance to varying degrees.
I caught that comment too and thought the same. Plus, charity begins at home - I strongly believe that. If it would THEN we could assist others.
Ok, so I’m not going to bed yet.
AWCheney, I know that is correct that we cannot have uncontrolled immigration. But we do have a need for labor. I heard a presenter last week say that there are only 5,000 visas available a year for agricultural and service workers, and 500,000 for highly skilled labor. I might have the details wrong but the point was that the availability of visas does not match the need for workers. But I don’t think anyone would argue for uncontrolled immigration.
I honestly don’t know what the answer is or how the immigration issue can be solved. My only small piece is to promote compassion. I just wish there were a way for all sides to get their points across without villifying the other.
Charlotte, perhaps we should also look at the reality of today’s global marketplace and consider that we are beginning to fall behind in technological development largely because we are yearly becoming more dependent upon cheap labor in certain industries, particularly agriculture. I seem to recall following a link on another comment thread here on this site which discussed that very issue in a very rational and fact-filled manner (don’t feel like going through the threads looking for it right now…a little late).
The point is that this dependence upon labor that is comfortably earning less than a living wage because they CAN by living under the radar avoiding taxes; employers avoiding appropriate benefits, and quite often payroll taxes, thereby able to enormously increase their profits (doing so); subverting our social welfare system and, in the process, often doing it by destroying other people’s lives (and they are all too often children) through identity theft; stacking themselves like cordwood in illegal bunk houses, and the list goes on and on, is like creating another potential slave/underclass which is dangerous in a civilized society, and economically irrational.
This new underclass is undermining the natural progression of fair wages and safe working conditions for ALL workers in this country. There’s no question that greed plays a huge factor in all this and it’s the average citizen and legal immigrant who are left to suffer. Artificially induced economic upsurges are NOT healthy in a healthy economy (note the housing boom), because eventually you reach a ceiling and, the greater and more rapid the upsurge, the harder and faster the bottom will fall out…and that’s going to be true in any industry (and then the “nanny state” decides it’s a good time to do a bailout at the expense of the taxpayers). The more logical answer to this is to shut the door completely on this underclass until the market is able to shake itself out, and THEN take another look at the numbers of visas for foreign workers and rationally updating our immigration policies. We are NOT a nation of unlimited resources, as much as the rest of the world would like to believe. Our dependence upon foreign oil should be the first tip-off to that. Our government (both Democrats AND Republicans) seems to have been oblivious to that fact for quite some time in its headlong rush to be all things to all people and getting us into this mess in the first place.
You say “that there are those on my side who think that right wing conservatives are evil.” Let me tell you what I grew up believing was the difference between conservatives and liberals: Conservatives believe in RATIONAL change which takes into account long-range effects (economic, societal, etc.) and liberals believe in the quick fix (in other words, “let’s try it and, if it doesn’t work, we’ll try something else”). Unfortunately, it’s a lot harder to fix mistakes than it is to avoid them, whenever humanly possible. The “quick fix” usually winds up compounding the problems. Let’s try to be rational, for a change.
AWC/Anyone that’s not a “newcomer”
I just read that Edward Daffan, Inc(est. 1968) has been sold to a Roanoke company. Let’s see now November ‘07 Kline’s(est. 1969) by the airport sold to a bank. Now, January ‘08 Daffan’s have been bought up by another company. Where have all of our locally owned and operated businesses gone? I still miss going to Rohr’s dime store like there’s tomorrow. My daughter will never what “penny candy” is. We’ve see the Colgan Airways be sold to US Airways. I still miss the Manassas Bakery, and hate to see that place as a car dealership. There’s enough of those around here.
I must wonder who’s next?
corr: I still miss Rohr’s dime store like there’s NO tomorrow.
My daughter will never KNOW what “penny candy” is.
(I hate mornings disclaimer)
I just did a drive by of the Coverstone 7-11. Thirty-seven (37) day laborers hanging out waiting for work. Thirty-six were Latino (36) and one (1) was black. They were spread out from Pizza Hut to the dirt hill on the other side of 7-11.
Also, I drove by the MS-13 tree at the corner on Woodstock and the tagging has not been removed from the tree.
Loudoun,
Michelle Casiato spoke with Patty about that house at BOS meeting Tuesday. I hope this comes down soon. Call me. We must head down to Loch Lomond today.
Hugh Brien (retired Chief of the U.S. Border patrol and Manassas resident) had a letter in today’s MJM and the Washington Times re ILLEGAL ALIENS vice ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS and how the government from the president down is not doing anything to curb it.

Nice pieces, Hugh. Keep the letters coming!
Hugh is a legal immigrant and formerly a Chief of the Border Patrol. He now does consulting work for DHS. His writings are based on facts.
You won’t see Charlotte and the other illegal alien sympathizers calling him a xenophobe!
I, like West Gate Witch, wish I could cast spells!
Letter from 12 January Washington Times
Take back America
I read John Lockwood’s letter “Securing the border” (Wednesday) with interest. As a young U.S. Border Patrol agent in 1959, I remember sitting with some fellow agents and laughing at the antics of Richard Webb and his Hollywood colleagues (”Border Patrol”) performing unbelievable feats. It was great drama, and the early television watchers loved it.
Back then, we had a force of less than 1,400 agents, and annual arrests did not reach 40,000 per year. We were a band of brothers. The southern border and immigration were under control. We had a legal and fair system.
I am a legal immigrant myself, who came to the United States in the early 1950s. Today, there are 15,000 border patrol agents, and they are being assaulted every day on the Mexican border by the narco-gangs and others.
In 2008, with few exceptions, we have a do-nothing Congress and White House when it comes to fairly enforcing the immigration laws. The system is not broken; it is just that there is too little political will to enforce the laws that have been on the books for decades.
Today, we have an estimated 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in our country. Included in that number are about 700,000 absconders who have already been ordered deported and are still here.
There are probably thousands of M-13 gang members, sexual offenders, credit card scammers, thieves and terrorists among those millions. And our political presidential candidates are silent. We need to take back our country.
HUGH BRIEN
Chief, United States Border Patrol (retired)

For all that think that unchecked and illegal immigration is natural and good, Europe doesn’t agree. There’s been plenty of talk over there about kicking the illegals out. Once again, the have-nots will try to get what the haves have.
Not about race or religion, it’s about keeping what you have earned for those that deserve it. For all of Islam’s talk about charity, why are so many of them leaving Muslim countries?
AWC,
I am not sure how this immigrant migration is so different. I will keep saying this! What you are describing, low wage unskilled labor for immigrants is how almost ALL large waves of immigrants began their journey into this great country. The natural progression is that, through time, the immigrant ’s children become the more skilled labor as their have access to education, their parents sacrafice their dreams to give their children the American Dream.
Sorry Dolph felt the need to leave, but I understand why, this blog is extremely sad and frustrating to read sometimes, but sane comments must be seen here, even if they are mostly ignored.
There she goes again……’NO WOMAN IS ILLEGAL.’
http://www.lvrj.com/news/13702902.html
Independent Thinker,
You are incorrect. All of the past large waves of immigrants (with the exception of the illegals sneaking into our southern border) entered this country legally through the proper channels. They are immigrants.
There is a big difference between “sane comments” and factual comments.
What is sad and frustrating is the liberal viewpoint on illegal aliens.
Loudon,
I JUST gave a very personal story how not ALL immigrants did NOT come here legally. Additionally, the economic story is the same.
Loudoun said on 12 Jan 2008 at 10:50 am:

Absolutely untrue. There are hundreds of stories of people in suitcases, changing coats, changing tags at Ellis Island at Ellis Islan alone and many many poor Italian and Irish that could only afford to go as far as Canada and entered through Buffalo, Detroit…. The stops were Canada, Boston and NYC. The wealthliest of the poor could go as far as NYC.
Have you been to Ellis Island?
I am not justifying illegal immigration, although you do run that risk here when you disagree with some regardless of the topic. However, to lay that on an entire group is exactly why my CPA friend whose son is a Civil War Re-enactor who came here from Cuba in the early 60’s is reluctant to stand up as being of hispanic origin and against illegals. You would likely never give her the chance to speak more that three words.
What is sad and frustrating is the limited viewpoint expressed by so many here. Pathetic, actually because it’s by choice.
IT - see Dolph’s message with her e-mail.
Thank One Voice for that information regarding immigrants and how many of them came to America in alternative ways. Like I said, I wonder how many people here on this blog, commenting with such holy than thou attitudes may have distant family members who came as my great aunt did, illegally.
And Loudon,
If being a liberal means that I take a holisitic approach to problem solving, that I recognize that there are not easy answers, that I put a human face to problems on BOTH sides, than I will take being called liberal as a compliment!
As far as I can tell President Bush is NO liberal and yet he and I agree on this issue.
Well then it would be okay; because they would have learned to speak english or something else that would make it fine.
Thanks One Voice, I will find that her last comment with her e-mail.
IT…you supported the AMNESTY too right? Did you not know that it failed in 1986? Now we are suffering big time now because of it! WOW such an intelligent approach….repeat the same mistakes over and over again without learning from them. You liberals cannot even recognize this….says alot about your “holistic” approach right? Your approach is ALL based on emotionalism NOT reasonable solutions!
Independent Thinker and One Voice

Have you been to Ellis Island?”
Emphasis on the words “hundreds of stories.” Multiple millions of immigrants did not enter into this country through suitcases or changing id tags or sneaking across the Canadian border - those accounts are very few and far between and cannot compare to the magnitude of the multiple millions of illegal entrants through our southern border.
No, I have not been to Ellis Island. Yes, the majority of my family immigrated through Ellis Island from Europe - and a small portion of my family is Native American.
I fully support immigrants - not illegal aliens.
I usually just read this blog and don’t comment - so I am sure your accusations of “run[ning] that risk here when you disagree with some regardless of the topic” are not directed towards me.
One Voice said: “What is sad and frustrating is the limited viewpoint expressed by so many here. Pathetic, actually because it’s by choice.”
One Voice - yes, you are only “one voice” and IT, you call yourself “independent,” similar to the Washington Post calling itself an “independent newspaper.”
Just because people don’t agree with you doesn’t mean they have a “limited viewpoint.” You call those different viewpoints limited because they do not agree with your viewpoint. As Lafayette has said repeatedly in the past, we must agree to disagree.
Finally, being called a liberal is not a compliment.
Have a lovely Saturday!
Vigilant1,
Did you notice the trash is now gone from Strasburg and on my block? Zoning got that taken care of within 5 days of notice.
The new NW sign must not be working to good. I’ve heard of some just last night two blocks from the sign. Thanks for posting Hugh’s letters.
I have a question….if it is known that people are at the “day labor” 7-11 (or other sites) to get hired to work, would it not be reasonable to request that all these workers provide “proof” that they are legal to work in the United States? I know when anyone of us legal workers tries to get a job we have to provide “proof” by filling out forms, showing ids, etc. So…why are these people not being asked to provide their legal work papers??? Maybe we should pursue this approach as a solution.
Loudoun - “All of the past large waves of immigrants (with the exception of the illegals sneaking into our southern border) entered this country legally through the proper channels.”
So are we willing to agree that this might just be a bit of an overstatement and we should not assume you meant it the way it sounded?
The Patriot,
I know you want answers when you ask a question. Here’s a question posed to you, and I never saw you answer it. I would like to the same this Loudoun asked you. I’m very curious what you think we call in, and meet the police for so many taggings which can be very time consuming. I waited an hour last Saturday at Stonewall Middle for PWPD to investigate the SUR-13 tagging there. There were several taggings Christmas Eve there only two that have yet to be taken care of. One on a tree on Woodstock, and the utiilty box at the church. This was reported to PWPD Christmas. Why is still there. Kids attend school right next door there, and have to walk past this. I really thought this would’ve been taken care of by now. What’s you congregation think of that mess. Grjeg L has stated on here before you all attend the same church. This is why I ask this of you.
Loudoun said on 29 Dec 2007 at 11:17 am:
Patriot - are you a member of the church that was tagged by SUR-13?
Patriot - . That is a violation of federal tax laws. They should be followed to work and the employer reported to IRS. Existing laws.
Patriot - . That is a violation of federal tax laws. They should be followed to work and the employer reported to IRS. Existing laws. We shouldn’t discourage them from getting work until we get to the employers.

One Voice,
In my post “all of the last large waves of immigrants…” with emphasis on the words “large waves.” These “large waves” entered through the proper channels and became U.S. citizens.
The current “large wave” is from the south - and not following the proper channels.
Okay, see your point. I can be wrong without falling on a sword…. Guess I jumped the gun on you.
Also, the limited thinking was not really directed toward you, just a bit frustrated to see some of the words used and name calling.
I was just thinking of those two border patrol guards that are still in prison. What a disgrace!
I guess the way to sneak across the border is that if you are confronted by guards all you have to do is turn your back on them. You can always come back a little later and smuggle drugs or whatever.
OV…actually…LEOs should be asking for their paperwork to work legally in the US while they are waiting around. Who knows where they will work on any given day? Just like a legal citizen…you have to provide your “proof” before your first day of work. Same concept! How many of those workers would stick around if they know they will be asked for their legal work papers! That is my solution. I think it is a great solution too!
Lafayette, who knows why the tagging is still there?!? I am not the one who removes tagging for the county.
Patriot - Well if you are going after the workers, yes. If you are going after the employeer (to push the self-deportation) it’s one of those pesky federal situations. Only the feds have that authority. The employer needs to be called in to the IRS tip line. I have called in the names of the business I see on a truck. Tried the ICE hotline and ran into the same nonesene that Lafayette did. Then tried IRS hotline, and left information.
OV…in this case it is a two-pronged solution….go after the workers to make sure they have legal paper to work in the US (those that are not legal can be processed by ICE), and go after the employers who are hiring illegal aliens. It is a robust solution. Additionally, it uses the same process that legal citizens already have to go through.
The BEST part of my solution is that it doesn’t matter who is waiting for work…all people waiting around will be questioned!
Agree. I think the bigger bang for the buck is going after the employers, IF we can get support for that. Hard to believe we are wondering if we can get support for tax evasion. Can’t imagine they wouldn’t find me in a NY second with a bad return.
I think that’s how they got Capone. Must have been before RICO.
OV….the bigger bang for the buck is the two-pronged approach (that includes questioning all workers at the “day labor” sites to show proof that they can work legally in the US). Those that cannot….will be further investigated by ICE.
The Patriot,
I just don’t understand why the utility company has not just simply replaced the cover. I’m VERY well aware of the fact YOU don’t remove taggings. I would just think the congregation or the church itself would be proactive in getting this taken care of. I just want the sh!t cleaned up. I don’t understand why the taggings take so long to get removed. I think they must speed this process up with the number of taggings that seem to be popping in on a weekly basis, if not more frequent. I can only speak for the ones I find. I’ve never been smart with you, and I’m only trying to improve OUR community, and you that too.
corr: and you KNOW that too.
Another reason why my solution will work (particular questioning all prospective workers for their legal documentation to work in the US) is it will make it HARDER for illegal aliens to seek work (which is getting to the root of the problem). If they know they cannot operate without the possibility of being caught they will move on! It is logical and a very reasonable and easy solution to implement.

Patriot, that is too logical. Anyone with half a brain would recognize that without work and an income and no way to get on the welfare rolls yet, they will go elseware (hopefully back to where they came from….please, please!)
One more reason why my solution is great…it is NOT targeting an individual it is targeting the “ability to work legally in the US”. Therefore, nobody could say that they are being “profiled”. If you are standing around for a “job” you should be able to demonstrate and prove your ability to work legally in the US.
correction —– elsewhere
I wonder if any of the candidates are not racist (Obama) or sexist (Clinton) ? Are any actually historically in favor of kicking out illegal aliens? Or getting us out of the middle east?

This makes perfect sense. There will always those will still complain though. This seems very cut and dry.
The self-deportations help too. I’ve seen several moving vans in the area the past couple days.
Lafayette, yes…the solution is very cut and dry and uses existing processes that legal citizens have to abide by anyway. Additionally, just because you choose to “get a job” by standing at a 7-11, home depot, or other site does NOT exempt you from having to provide “proof” of your ability to work legally in the US.

“I am not sure how this immigrant migration is so different.”
(Sorry I’m so late responding…just came online)
THIS massive immigration surge is VERY different in that during previous illegal alien migrations of similar proportions, this country DID NOT have a social welfare system. Education was NOT guaranteed to all children. Medical services were most certainly NOT guaranteed to all people. The aliens were on their own and therefore either assimilated rapidly, or went back to their home country. Those that made it were the ones upon whom our culturally rich country was built as they merged their diverse cultures, thus forming that uniquely American character. THIS IS VERY DIFFERENT INDEED!
Btw, the above comment
