I was too young to participate in Vietnam, but I spent many months in a submarine during the cold war being bored to death either looking and hunting for the "red team" or trying to remain undetected so we could launch our ICBMs if necessary. As they say, 75 days of boredom and a couple days of frantic maneuvering to remain undetected. The stops in the Phillipines and other WESTPAC ports were a lot of fun in the late 70's and early 80's before all the diseases started cropping up that could kill you or at least stay with you the rest of your life. I am proud of my service to the country, but I didn't do any more or less than the rest of us did other than being out there so the rest of America could have the freedoms that we all insist on as our way of life. Best investment of 10 years of my life as it taught me many life skills and I grew up quite a bit while I was in the Navy.
