Democrats Start Infighting

By Greg L | 5 February 2008 | DPVA, Illegal Aliens, Virginia House | 14 Comments

The DPVA better figure out what the heck it stands for before it again starts lashing out at it’s own members for being “mean spirited”, otherwise some of us out here might end up getting confused about whether Democrats are interested in protecting the interests of low income minorities, or illegal aliens:

Today, [HB 14] passed the House 73-26. According to Sickles, we’ve got 73 mean-spirited legislators, and guess who’s among them? House Minority Leader Ward Armstrong, along with 14 other members of the Democratic caucus.

There were also quite a few …. how do you say …. “sweet spirited”??? individuals who think that legal Virginia students should have to wait in line behind ILLEGAL immigrants in order to attend in-state, taxpayer funded, colleges and universities. This list includes the Minority Caucus Chairman Brian Moran and 25 other colleagues of his.

Who represents Virginia Democrats? Dick “we will do nothing” Saslaw, chief defender of the interests of illegal aliens and those who unlawfully profit from them, or Ward Armstrong, who seems to have figured out that there are quite a few in the Democrat’s key voting constituencies who are harmed by illegal aliens and look to their elected officials to do something to address these serious and pervasive problems?

They better figure this out. We wouldn’t want voters to get confused about what Democrats actually stand for.

Note: I previously reported that this bill passed 68-28, based on a report from the floor that got called in immediately after the vote. Either I got inaccurate information, or some legislators switched their votes later on.

Greg, you got the vote on 2nd reading, the bill was engrossed and passed on to its 3rd reading by a 68-28 vote, the following day the bill was reported by the House on 3rd reading by a 73-26 vote and has been passed over to the Senate where it will go to the “special” sub committee on immigration

Passed to the Senate …. where they will “drive a stake though its heart.”

Very sad… because there is no acountability in the Senate.

How big a problem is university attendance by illegal aliens in Virginia, anyway? Anyone have numbers on this?

Probably not a big problem but every one that gets admitted takes a slot from one of our kids.

I believe the national average for latino dropouts from school is somewhere over 50% if I am correct.

I stand corrected. The national average for latino dropouts is 21%.

999: every pink amoeba from Pluto who enrolls at a Virginia university takes a place from one of “our kids” (unless “our kids” are also pink amoebae from Pluto). But my question is whether it’s a problem that requires a legislative solution. I suspect not or someone would be able to quantify it.

Re your statisic on “Latinos”: what’s your point? I assume that we don’t know the drop-outs’ immigration status. I further assume that drop-outs of any ethnic category are not matriculating at UVA or any other state university in Virginia. Anyone else know otherwise?

The site below will not answer your direct question (there are no figures available on the number of illegals attending universities (or public/private schools for that matter (it is against the law to ask for immigrant status) but the statistics might provide an indication that not too many Hispanics (legal/illegal that graduate from high school continue their education.)

    Harry,

Thanks for that correct information and clarification for everyone. Just so everyone is not confused, bills have 3 Constitional readings and votes after they have reached the floor.

Nova Scout, there are about 1,400 in the state colleges/universities.

There are 1400 illegal immigrants attending college in Virginia? What is the source for that figure?

    Harry,

That information ought to be in a central location. How can I locate it? I seriously doubt if I call each college in Va and ask how many illegals are enrolled, I will get a straight answer.

Senator Saslaw is an exaple of all that is wrong with the “social” engineers of this nation.

They follow a principle of “helping the unlawful” and “screwing” the legitimate, lawful poor.

How misguided and anal is the “ethnic group” favoritism in that Senator’s ethics?
