Huckabee Robo-Calls

By Greg L | 9 February 2008 | National Politics, Virginia Politics | 32 Comments

I just got a fascinating robo-call from what clearly was the Huckabee campaign, although the disclosure at the end claimed it was “Commonsense Issues” and not his campaign, that was actually a pretty outrageous attack against Mitt Romney that has lots of really bad distortions of Romney’s record.  I guess the Huckabee campaign is really worried that primary voters may still cast their votes for Mitt Romney even though he has suspended his presidential campaign.  Perhaps they should be.

I believe this robo-call violates Virginia’s elections laws, because there’s no way to clearly identify who paid for the call, and it’s pretty clear that this call is part of Huckabee’s campaign effort despite statements that it’s not.  It’s also interesting to note that Huckabee, who is supposedly bringing a more honorable set of values to his campaign is not only willing to lie about his opponents, but is eager to attack opponents that aren’t even running active campaigns any more.

So much for values, Huck.  You just lost me entirely.

Huckleberry strikes me as Bushesque, insofar as being arrogant, abusive and elitist. And I’m a devout conservative!

    Interesting side note-
Congress finally granted us Federal Law Enforcement Officer Status (LEO) for retirement purposes in the 2008 budget. We have been fighting for this benefit for DECADES. Bush, having already signed it into law, did not include funding for LEO retirement in the 2009 budget. It’s a symbolic gesture, it won’t stand, but it’s very revealing about the GOP and it’s attitude towards federal employees in general. “Well, I don’t like you, so I’ll just take it away.” Childish jerk!

Huckabee has always been an opportunist who in turns hides behind the cross to feign magnanimity and thrown the good book as a pretext for earning conservative credentials. It is his fervor which masquerades as honesty which should have all running for the gates.
There is nothing wrong with a candidate who lives by the good book, but he should keep his readings to himself. Hypocrisy has a strong face, one that cannot be lost on everyone.
His record speaks exactly to the opposite of what he has preaching. Let’s not forget this is the candidate who has sent a blistering letter of reprimand to ICE demanding to know what was the worth of their raid on a chicken plant in his home state and the subsequent bleeding heart campaign to bring attention to the “plight of the children orphaned by gestapo tactics”.

It is a warning note that a candidate who wants to be so close to the church going crowd and uses God to justify his success in the campaign can also be the one who wants to “change the Constitution to reflect the word of God”. It is he with his false doctrine who so many evangelist are so quick to embrace and who has displaced by his very presence a candidate who was a man of God and one who could have, with his intelligence and his class, have properly guided this country out of the worst time in recent history and represented us properly in matters of foreign strategy.

It is the bigot with the gift of gab that people flock to, and not the soft spoken man who may have, after all, lived by the very principles that Huckabee so cleverly tries to attribute to himself.

I may vote for the maniac, but if he selects the Jesus freak for his running mate I will sit this one out. I will vote for Romney on Tuesday, or possibly Obama to keep the Clintons out of the white house if the electrions board has taken Romney off the ballot..

Huckster is not a conservative. As just news says, he is an opportunist. He is a snake oil salesman. He ruined the Republican party in Arkansas, according to Phyllis Schlafly.

I’m voting on Tuesday–for Romney. Obama in the general election (if all goes well).

You guys are such losers. Voting for a white-bred elitist like Romney, who only cared about his millions and doing whatever it took to get elected in Massachusetts (acting like a liberal over a decade ago, and now acting like he’s a conservative). You’re all pathetic. Plus, it’s amazing how you single-minded one issue voters have such a hatred for an American hero like McCain. What’s he done to you? Yeah, he screwed up on immigration. But, I’m sure the GOP will not let him screw up again if he’s the candidate this November.

I’m planning on voting for the GOP for the first time in 2008, after voting Democratic the last four elections. But, people like you idiots make me want to sit this one out, since you’re the reason that many Americans hate conservatives.

In closing, it’s sad that a man of faith and a modest upbringing like Huckabee is taking so much crap from this blog and many others. It just shows you another reason why people hate the GOP - you don’t realize how many good, small town people of faith vote Republican and can’t relate to guys like Bush and Romney. They can relate to a guy like Huckabee. Be prepared to be surprised on Tuesday.

“he is an opportunist” - no duh. What politician ISN’T an opportunistic? “Jesue Freak” - well, enjoy Hell, buddy.

Good luck with President Obama, haters. Because of you, we’re going to have 8 years of Democractic power in the White House. Hope you’re ready for Secretary of State Sharpton.

PS: It’s odd that a person that attacks local people on a regular basis is talking about someone’s values…hmmm…hypocrisy, anyone?

You should astain from voting now and forever. As a democrat you are now willing to vote for a republican who is the closest thing to a democrat. You seem a bit confused. By voting for McCain you demonstrate you are willing to place the country in the hands of someone who is incapable by his own admission to understand the complex economic crisis which awaits us, who is so ignorant of foreign issues that he proclaims that there will be “more wars” and who is still very much dedicated to bring this country’s status to third world country.

In case you haven’t noticed his humanistic approach to illegal immigration has everything to do with pandering shamelessly. He is not only impossibly unaware, but he is the local hero who wants for himself the higher glory which his intellect does not deserve. We already have a president who is limited in comprehension: we don’t need another one.

And ,as a democrat, I fail to see why Obama is such a disgrace to you. I guess you must harbor a secret disapproval of the black man finding his place in history. No, a black man or a rich man have no place in the White HOuse. Let’s get another cowboy up there, one who wants more war and more illegal immigrants.

I forgot to elucidate your mind on a little point you bring up. You say it is us “haters” that are going to bring endless years of democratic rule.

You are most unilluminated and unaware. The “democratic” rule is the result of the spanish vote and the immense demographic shift that the reckless immigration policy adopted by this and the previous administration has produced. the spanish vote will not only bring about a change in the political landscape for years to come, but it will introduce social and cultural changes which are irreversible and irreducible.

And you are most unaware of Mr. Huckabee false piety. Notwithstanding his prelate credentials he is known to be vindictive and petty and is most known for using his “religion” to shameless appeal to the christian vote. He is neither capable nor honest and should be unmasked for the hypocrite that he is. The fact that he is of poor origin and has achieved status should not blind people for his misgivings. This is a man who advocates permanent quarantine for aids victims. I guess anyone who is inconvenient to the rabid section of the christian faith might find himself in a lager. this contrasts a little too much with his letter to ICE asking for clemency for “anchor baby” caught in the net.

The problem is that people choose candidates not for their abilities, but for the populist appeal of their social derivation or worse, by making themselves into “God’s” candidate.

It seems that you are more the hater than anyone here.

Mitt Romney ran some of the nastiest stuff I have seen on Huckabee and McCain in IA and other states.

I don’t blame any third party conservative group for bathmouthing a phoney like Romney. Romney was horrible on illegal immigration until he figured out conservatives like the issue. Romney was terrible on abortion (see his debate with teddy k) until he started talking like a conservative. I am glad he is out of the race.

I will probably go with McCain because of terrorism but I do appreciate the Huckabee supporters bringing the life issue back to the forefront of the party and exposing Romney.

This race just shows the huge divide between the pro-life wing of the party that supports Huckabee for the most part and more traditional conservatives who supported Romney. Until these groups can unite behind a candidate like they did with W. we will end up with moderate candidates like McCain. We needed a George Allen, Fred Thompson, or a Haley Barbour conservative in this race. This type of conservative would have united both sides. Too bad Fred really never gave a good efford.

Once again I will ask the question. What did he do to be called “an American hero?” Thousands of other military AND civilian personnel have spent time in POW camps and don’t flaunt it like he does. Name ONE thing other than his POW status that makes him a ‘hero”. Why won’t he allow the Viet Nam POW records to become public. Maybe something to hide?

Here is another article on McCain (written by COL. DAVID HACKWORTH, USA (RET) who is one of the most decorated miltiary personnel in history. Read his story (or get someone to read it for you.) If after reading this article (or having it read to you) you and you continue to voice your support for “Hero” McCain, you must have a “problem.”

Hey greg, what is up with the National Republican Party? Are they taking a page from Tom Kopko’s 51st delegate playbook or what? I’m voting for Obama. This Jimmy Carter Jr. will only be around for 4 years, maybe less if he appoints the kind of folks I think he will. Time for a return of the great malaise’.

Time for us to start concentrating on the US House and Senate. While I’m on the subject. Paul Nichols, you have succeeded in having the MJM turn on you. Keep up the good work. The Republicans who supported you are behind your efforts to stem the tide. Don’t let the RINOs down in Richmond who are on the dole of big money get you down. Cheers

I think it is wrong to analyze John McCain’s war experiences to determine character. Every POW deserves respect, just for being a POW and experiencing a life none of us can even fathom. No one can fault any POW for what they had to do just to survive.

Putting a label of “hero” on a veteran in my opinion, should be reserved for Medal of Honor winners. Most of those are posthumous. As are many, many purple hearts and many Meritorious Service Medals (go figure). War veterans and POW labels carry a more accurate respect for any serviceman, and any medal received during that period is very “personal” to each veteran, who typically view a veteran war medal as a reminder to the sacrifice’s they made and the nation’s gratitude for it. It helps provide closure for misery suffered. Almost every other service medal means nothing to a “veteran” soldier.

Leave McCain’s service record out of the debate, those who have not experienced it cannot hold judgement without bias and ignorance.

What you should do is look at his current character, ethics toward war, attitude, and voting record.

Personally I think he fails on only those accounts.
