Sen. Clinton is Coming to Manassas

By RHarrison | 9 February 2008 | National Politics | 143 Comments

It looks like Hillary Clinton will be at Metz Middle School tomorrow (Sunday) at 1:00 pm.  Yippy.

Either her campaign is desperate or they don’t know much about Virginia politics.  Probably both.  Manassas is one of the most Republican jurisdictions in Northern Virginia.  She isn’t going to win here in November unless the election is a huge blow-out, which is unlikely.  So she’s not going to pick up many votes by coming here.

On the other hand, the polls show that she’s about to lose the state by a huge margin to Sen. Obama, so maybe she thinks conservative jurisdictions like Manassas will give her some unexpected votes.  It is possible.  With the Republican race settled, some of those primary votes might drift elsewhere.  Clinton is the less liberal of the two, so I guess that could work, but those votes are unlikely to help her in November.

I understand there will be a counter-event tomorrow, just to make sure Ms. Clinton, the media and her supporters know where Manassas stands.  It won’t be a huge thing, just a quiet reminder that this is not Clinton country.  If anyone is interested in participating, show up at Metz around 12:30 and look for the McCain signs.

It should be fun.

Well…with the McCain signs out, it should not only be fun but also hypocritical since I have heard nothing but McCain bashing since logging on this blog for the past several months.

I do hope that there is a demonstration permit since Metz is in the City of Manasssas. After all, we all do believe in the rule of law, don’t we? I am sure the local Democrats will be asking to see the permit.

In the election for the POTUS, we will have a choice between voting for a liberal Democrat, or a liberal Republican. Either is vile, IMHO.

Hillary is coming to Chesapeake in the 4th Congressional District…that is the third most Republican area in that District. She is clearly going after the white Democrat vote in White Jurisdictions….She would be wasting her time campaigning in Norfolk, Richmond, Portsmouth, Sussex, Eastern Henrico…get the idea? I aint saying its sound for her to do this, still it IS what she is doing. The White vote is about all she is going to get…and as of last week, that vote is going for Hussein by 35% to 40%

Now you know if her people gave Chief Deane a heads up that she was going to stop for coffee at the Coverstone 7-11, he’d clean up that area faster than you can wink an eye. Of course she could fly directly to Metz. West Gate Witch and Woodstock could give her an escort. We wouldn’t want her to suffer any ill effects from too much cultural diversity.

    Guerrita,

We aren’t intolerant of other people’s perspectives. We insist on the RULE OF LAW. Something you illegal alien apologists don’t seem to understand.

EVERY COUNTRY HAS BORDERS. Every non-third world country has immigration laws.

This isn’t about racism. This is about illegal aliens who have invaded our country with total disregard for our immigration laws. We all support legal immigration here.

What we do not support is ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

This isn’t racist or anti-immigrant, nor are we Nazis.

Sore losers? What have we lost? The only thing we lose is 3 billion dollars a year of the American taxpayers money -which is what it costs us to have you here.

What would we like to lose? Those 12 - 20 million or more of you invading lawbreakers - demanding rights to which you aren’t entitled.

If you don’t like it here - go home! We didn’t invite you here. And we aren’t separating families. Illegal aliens choose to come here - and they are certainly free to leave and take their children with them.

In fact, we respectfully request that you all get the hell out of our country.!

We are losing $3billion dollars - then shouldn’t we be getting a check from someone for the 60 that have been deported from PWC? Or do we have to deport more? Do you know what the threshold is; how many do we have to deport to get our money back? I think this money is what folks here think should pay for all this immigration stuff and I agree.

I just can’t figure out when we start receiving it. Do you know?

over to McCain (who most likely can’t even balance his check book) or to
Obama (who has zero experience and is, IMO, poorly qualified to run this
country). Obama has promised to fix all our ills; stop the war, heal the
economy, give us the health care system we desperately need, etc., but
he doesn’t tell us HOW he will do this! I’m surprised that he hasn’t said he
will put an end to the tornadoes and the fires which often ravage our
country. What will he do about the illegals who are destroying us?
Dolph is correct….most of what we have read here about McCain has been

A better wordsmith than I has articulated what I see happening right here in PWC. You are practicing destructive behavior; you are simply grinding down the community.

This particular paragraph addresses what radio talk show has done to the Republican party. Heed.

“With their inflexibility, grudge-holding and eagerness to evict heretics rather than seek converts, too many of conservatism’s leaders sound like the custodians of a dwindling religious denomination or a politically correct English department at a fading liberal-arts college. “

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Did you see Tio Teddy’s endorsement last week out in LA. You would have thought he was in Central America or Mexico the was he was pandering to the Latinos. Do you really think he is going to go against Tio Teddy if he gets re-elected. Kennedy wants total amnesty for all illegals including the criminals as was demonstrated in the McCain/Kennedy comprehensive immigration bill. Thank God it was defeated. McCain is no better. If he gets elected (very doubtful) he will do the same and give total amnesty to all illegals. There is no one running now that will contain the problem or fix it other than giving amnesty and then have another 10-20 come across the border in ten years to get “theirs.”

One Voice - this is how the deportation process works:

The illegal alien serves his/her jail time. The costs for their jail time cannot be added to the costs for the RULE OF LAW resolution. Every convicted criminal, regardless of citizenship status, must first serve their time.

The costs incurred by deporting them are nil. After the illegal alien serves his/her time, ICE will come and get them. We don’t pay the deportation costs - the feds do. ICE picks them up within 72 hours - and then they deport them. So our costs only include the 24-72 hours of holding them in the jail awaiting deportation. Of that 24-72 hours that we hold them, the state gets reimbursed for a portion of that. The last figure I read was $84 per day, for which the state is reimbursed, and I think they give us 35%.

The cost benefit of having them deported increases exponentially. It saves lives (they can’t commit murder if they aren’t here), it reduces crime (they can’t rape, commit identify theft, steal, commit hit and runs, damage personal property), it reduces traffic congestion, it reduces overcrowding in homes and in schools (if the remainder of their family goes with them), etc…

The cost to PWC Hospital alone last year as a result of the illegal aliens was $15 million. If they aren’t here, they won’t be using the emergency room for their “free” medical visits. That $15 million for PWC Hospital is passed on to the tax-paying Americans whose insurance costs go up in order to pay for the medical services of illegal aliens….

What it comes down to is costs are nil. Benefits are huge…

Loudoun - I agree we have to arrest and jail but lets not put it out there that cost are nil. Major Melitis in his address to the BOCS last Tuesday said that it cost $75.00 a day to house someone at the jail. Once the resoultion is acted on and the police start arresting traffic violators who are illegal aliens and start puting them in jail the cost are going to be felt. As ICE and Metlitis have both said the problem is not going to be money it is going to be bed space. The jail already has more PWC inmates in other jails than in the Manassas ADC.

    One Voice:

You have such a sly way of misstating the facts. The cost savings will be returned - not in the form of a check - but the County will be spending less money on the services provided to illegal aliens and their children. When they leave, because we are no longer going to look the other way about their illegal status, the county saves money. Less money going out to pay for illegal aliens and their children. Less crime, murder, rape, theft, costs for educating their ESOL children…

“The cost benefit of having them deported increases exponentially. It saves lives (they can’t commit murder if they aren’t here), it reduces crime (they can’t rape, commit identify theft, steal, commit hit and runs, damage personal property), it reduces traffic congestion, it reduces overcrowding in homes and in schools (if the remainder of their family goes with them), etc…”

    Area 51:

I do understand that the jail is full and that the jail costs money. We will get reimbursed for a small portion of their stay in the jail until ICE deports them. But the illegals are leaving PWC - which saves PWC money.

    JimmyV:

This topic is important because all of the three presidential contenders are for amnesty. Our country cannot survive the influx of another amnesty of 12 to 20 million or more illegal aliens. We can’t even take care of our own citizens who are poor, hungry, and some jobless.

America will no longer be America - it will be many hyphenated Americas, and our melting pot will be gone. America and what makes us the greatest nation on the face of the earth will be no more.

OV - my comments weren’t snide - they were meant to be informative. I was trying to provide factual information. I attend BOCS meetings, I have attended a meeting with ICE (in Maryland), and meetings with members of the Gang Task Force (in PWC). I have also attended one of the Culpeper Coalition meetings (the county and city governments joining to fight illegal immigration).

It isn’t that kindness isn’t appreciated. It is that sarcasm is not appreciated - and your “dear” and “sweetie” were oozing sarcasm.

Is it necessary for you to be sarcastic and snide? Are we not on the same side here?

I did see that I was sly….. not usually a compliment?! Okay for you to use sarcasm but not me?! As I say, I can’t tell. It really doesn’t matter, just looking for the money. Hear alot about what we are goint to recoup but can’t really get an exact answer; although some seem pretty exact about what it costs. It is a dilemma.

Ducky, thank goodness someone hears what I hear. This can be a verra destructive group. This has been going on since early summer and it’s getting us nowhere fast except a reputation that is worse than PG County. There are adaquate of laws on the books, plenty of things we can do in PWC plenty plenty…… Not sure why we want to be the feds.

Loudoun, think we are all on the same side but how is so important. Destructive talk, constant criticism is not working with people, just against them. That’s mostly what I hear. Let’s go to 711 and see what the cops do to us (chest thump), get rid of the Police Chief (chest thump), and so on and so on. Just for fun, count the number of positive threads you see here….

FYI - Large crowd at Metz with many folks still waiting in
line. The parking lot and surrounding streets are full of
parked cars. When built in 1990, Metz’s auditorium and
parking lot were “super sized” beyond what a typical
middle school might have so it could also hold community
gatherings (The recent Manassas GOP mass meeting,
for example , was held there), but I’ve never seen this
many folks. Happy to see any of the candidates come
to Manassas, but it appears a large number of people
may not find a seat or even get in today. Plus,
it is cool and very windy (know some of you

The venue was way too small.

People waited in line for two hours without being told they were in line for the auxiliary room, not the actual room with Hillary in it.

    JimmyV,

Good question. Why is she coming here? And what city officials are planning to show up for the meet and greet?? I attempted, before 12pm, to get out of my neighborhood but found that Wellington Road was gridlocked. I also noticed many surrounding streets FILLED with street parking that don’t live here!

Someone had connections to get this venue set up long before today. Guess the hoops and loops most have to go through were by-passed to get a celebrity ‘breck girl’ into the city to give it a make-over to appeal to the nation to come and consider living in our beautiful city.

just some dude, maybe it was strategic planning to have Metz be the place knowing full well and good it could not hold a hugh crowd. Makes for a better story of how many came to support her that crowds willingly stood in the wind just to be in solidarity.

Look forward to your ‘live coverage’ clip when you can get it out, Greg.

Apparently someone forgot to send Hillary the memo that this isn’t Clinton Country. People nearly wrapped around the building over at Metz.

The Clintons probably got confused because Virginia just elected a Democratic Senator and Governor. Things are looking pretty purple to me.

I didn’t see any McCain signs out there…doesn’t mean they weren’t there. I just know that the fine folks here believe strongly in the rule of law and they would have needed a permit to demonstrate for McCain.

Hmm, traffic lawbreaking deserves sympathy, and you want amnesty for abusive drivers NOW (or even better retroactive!) but no compassion for migrants.

This is highly inconsistency since bad driving kills people but illegal migration does not. This is why some of us think the grouchiness here about illegals is based more on a personal dislike of latinos than a principled stand for rule of law.

How about every illegal migrant we catch gets a $75 fines and let go? Sort of like what we do with red-light and speeding cameras as a revenue generation for government.

I was at the Manassas Town Hall Meeting (THM) and there was over 3,000 people who came to listen to Mrs. Clinton. From all over Prince William County, Culpepper, Faquier, and Fredricksburg. No one I spoke with was from Arlington or Fairfax.

Of all the candidates I have gone to listen to at various THMs she was the first one to really give detail information on the issues I am concerned about….education and getting rid of No Child Left Behind, student loans and tax writeoffs for the parents and a workers program to help graduates pay off their loans by becoming nurses, teachers, police officers, etc….

Hillary spoke about healthcare and no she will not garnish workers pay. She spoke in detail about her healthcare plan. Bringing our men and women home from Iraq. Taking care of our vetrans from WWII to today. Just to mention a few topics.

Hillary Clinton has what it takes to be President, courage, strength and personal conviction. Is she a ‘nutcracker’? HELL YA - isn’t that what we want in our President. A woman or man who won’t take sh’t from anyone or any country!!

Obama is untried and too inexperienced. He reminds me of Carter. Too many ideas and not enough experience. I don’t want another ‘Training Wheels’ President.

Since Virginia has open primaries, and with the GOP nomination pretty much settled, she’s probably attempting to entice the Hillary-would-be-easier-to-beat-than-Obama folks into voting fro her in the Democratic primary instead of the Republican primary.

    Hokie-Mom,

Thanks for the update. It was waaay too crowded when I finally got over to Metz to dream of getting inside. Kudos to you for getting there early. I listened on C-Span later in the day and was impressed with what Hillary had to say. I find her to be a moderate.

    Hokie-Mom,

I left out the most important thing Hillary said in MY mind: She will do away with NCLB. I have not yet heard that out of any other candidate. I suppose each person has their priorities. That would be mine.

Compare 1000 Traffic deaths in Virginia per year (http://www.wtop.com/?sid=1316699&nid=25) to a handful of latino on latino murders. Which is more of a concern to the soccer mom down the street?

We need to focus on enforcing laws that protect people from violent crime rather than a blind focus on immigration status. Illegal immigration is not a violent crime. Speeding and red-light running is.

You have ruined whatever high road you had on the rule of law argument by showing how quickly you are willing to change the law (and give amnesty) when the law is unfavorable to americans but won’t consider amnesty for unfair immigration laws because it would benefit a latino migrant.

You seem to want to pick and choose what laws are enforced in this country.

Identity theft, check fraud, embezzling, etc., are not VIOLENT crimes… so they’re okay in your view?

    Just curious.

When someone breaks into my home and steals my belongings, is that a “violent crime”? Should that be ignored?

    Mike,

Yes because they may have been hungry or cold. DO YOU NOT GET IT?
HOW inhumane of you to pose such a question! ( forget all the kindness that you have shown, it all goes out the window!) OF course I am being sarcastic, but it gets old huh?!?

But traffic violations are a violent crime and you (Virginian lawmakers and their supporters) want to give lawbreaking drivers amnesty. Why? Where’s the emphasis on punishing criminal conduct. Instead the emphasis is on how harsh the penalties are on poor americans and thus inhumane and must be repealled. So the message one takes away is that vehicular violence by americans is OK but migrants crossing an arbitary line to find work to put food on the table free of a tyranical socialistic regime is a crime? I don’t get it.

The trespassing analogy is apt. Trespassing is not a violent crime. Illegal migrants are not stealing jobs but even if you wrongly think they are theft is not a violent crime. [Killing someone with a vehicle IS a violent crime.] So you want to ignore thousands of manslaughters per year so we can concentrate on at most theft of services and an occasional migrant homicide? Where are the pro-life people in this crowd? Is there no compassion for human life and dignity?

Mcain is a nut and no way he’s fit to lead this country. Then again, ANYBODY is fit to lead especially after the job Bush Jr. has done.

Now, now, now…. you don’t want to make BATS IN THE BELFRY unhappy. He thinks McCain is the greatest thing since bottled water.

    Dolph,

Are you serious? Hillary a moderate? Do you just throw stuff out to get a reaction? She wants to take the profits of companies, not taxes, but profits. That is socialism. She wants to provide health care for everyone, that is socialism. She was to take money from the rich and give it to the poor, income redistribution, that is socialism. Socialism is not moderate in anyway.

    COM,

You are very conservative and I am very much a moderate. We simply will not agree on these things so it does neither of us any good to discuss. We disagree on the original premise so obviously anything after that would be wasted air. For instance, I would never see health care for everyone as socialism. You do because you said you did.

Let’s live to fight another day.

    Dolph,

Sorry, but that is not going to work here. Even Canada and England call it socialized health care. This is not a matter of opinion to not want to call it that, it is what it is. Since when has America ever promised that health care is something that is expected or even a right? It has not, but thanks to libs who want to push their socialism on us, it has become in their eyes a “right”, and therefore if you are against it, you are against the children. Hmmm. I heard a lot of the same from the illegals during the public hearing on the resolution.

Do you think it is OK to take money that you earned and provide it to someone else?

    COM,

I believe England called their health plan NHS.

I guess you are opposed to medicare and social security?

    Dolph,

I oppose social security from the stand point that when I get to retirement age, it will not resemble the program we have now, and I could have used/invested the money much better then just paying into like I have been doing.

I agree there should be a program that allows workers to save money that is taken directly from their pay checks. The Government should just allow us to expand 401K programs and other saving programs and bypass paying into a general fund that allows for the misuse and abuse of the program.
