The City of Manassas Park is completely independent of PWC. Zoning enforcement is handled by a department for that purpose.

Park'd

MP said there are 5 up for election in November. Is there anyone decent that would run? I know what you mean about property values. Does the City of Manassas Park fall under the same zoning as PWC? Do you all have a seperate zoning enforcement or does the police department do that as well?

Are there any MP council members up for re-election this year? Any prospects in the city that would be better and restore order and credibility?

Now generalize that to what the rest of the country is going to be like. As goes Manassas Park, goes the USA.

I concur. Oh how I concur.

Not holding my breath for anything to be done about this crew though. They seem to cover their bases and their illegal constituents, who now comprise 80% of the population of the town by my rough count based on hours of people counting, could care less what they do as long as they leave them alone. Nice gig if you can get it. Pull all the schemes you want and rob the town blind and the people don't care because most of them are breaking the law too just by being here.

The more people who raise this mess with higher authorities, the better the chances that something may actually happen.

It's times like this that make me want to take a little time to look up some of my former roomates I've had over the years on campaigns and working for the legislature....ESPECIALLY the two who are Deputy AGs at US Justice.

It will be great to catch up with them and tell them ALL ABOUT the town I'm living in now.

No wonder Manassas Park is considered a sanctuary city for illegal aliens. They have a bad habit of looking the other way when someone does something wrong.

This whole saga simply infuriates me! Greg, I sent you a copy of an email I sent to McDonnell's staff asking him to appoint a special prosecutor. We have to put some pressure on someone to really look into this mess.

Most of the "lewd" acts were perpetrated by a city official and a police informant!!!

Un-f-ing-believable.

It is still open Nick...struggling, as you can well imagine. I'm sure that David would really appreciate the business! It's really a great family place. I often sent my kids there when they were looking for a late-night place to go; of course Kevin Brendel was no longer employed there at the time. I just warned them to call me immediately if the MP police started any of their antics!

Does anyone know the status of Rack and Roll now? If it is still open, I would be tempted to go in there and spend some money.

I agree with Batson, and will add that Greg's series on the RnR scandal has been an example of superlative investigative reporting...something of which our local MSM would seem to be incapable. It is all well worth a read!

I will also add that when Greg responded to the Cowhurst threat with the traditional BVBL war-cry of "Bite Me!" , the MP government backed down.

It sounds like "Government Official" is worried that any corruption or obstrction investigation might ensnare him/her.

For those new to this saga, when Greg bagan investigating the ongoing abuses of governement power inflicted upon the owner of Rack & Roll by the both the previous and current MP Governments, Cowhurst threatened to sue Greg. Undetterred, Greg continued to post articles VERY WELL supported by VIDEO, Photographic and documentary evidence. It's all there in the archives of BVBL under "rack and roll scandal" I suggest that you newbies who may be skeptical do this before screaming "where's the proof!" It's all there, and has been developed over the better part of a year.

WHile you may not approve of the type of establishement Rack & Roll was in its heyday, there is absolutely no excuse for the MP government to have acted as they have. What they have done is clearly illegal, and unethical. The good people of MP deserve better, and should demand better this coming November. However, if history is any indicator, the populace is a bit apathetic, and those holding power may not have any challenge, giving them a mandate to continue their abuses.

Greg can only do so much. He can only tell the story, and hopefully inspire the citizens of Manassas Park to demand a change in the form of an electoral challenge.

AWCheney -- they tried to fight back too. However, they had been involved in a lawsuit with Fairfax City for the past year (that's a whole other ridiculous story there) and once the ABC literally ripped the license from the wall of their establishment they could no longer afford to pay the lawyers, much less their rent. The ABC said they could ask for a hearing -- months down the road of course -- but the damage is done and the place is locked up tight now.

It is believed that the City realized they were going to lose the lawsuit with these people, and so resorted to this tactic instead. Sadly, very effective.

Oddly, the Mayor of the city who owns an ice cream parlor/cafe, right around the corner, is rumored (we are attempting to verify this info) to have recently received his ABC license, even though just last October, an alcohol-related, sexual felony (perpetrated by his business 'consultant' against his under-age employee) occured on the premises which, at the time, had no license to sell alcohol of any kind. The incident has been neatly swept under the rug, of course. While the perpetrator will go to trial soon on the matter, the Mayor has come away unscathed.

Government Official:

"There is sleaze here and the Ruttenbergs are the sleazists of them all"

Just for the record:

1. David's father has practiced law for over 40 years. He started as aNavy lawyer and was the youngest Deputy Counsel, Naval Sea Systems Command ever. He was instrumental in resoving billions of dollars of shipbuilding claims against the Navy to the huge benefit of the U.S. Taxpayer;

2. David's sister is in cyber counter intellignce as a contractor for the Department of Homeland Security. She is a reserve Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy. She was the navigator of the ammunition ship Pyro during the first gulf war in the war zone with the Abraham Lincoln battlegroup. She was with Naval Counterintelligence in Suitland during the second gulf war.

3. David's brother is a partner in a Tyson Corner law firm and the current President of the Fairfax Bar Association. He is the Vice President of the charity "Devotion to Children."

4. David's uncle is the senior member of the New York State Assembly.

The allegations you keep bringing up about David are the product of fabrication by MP officials and perjury. Talk about sleaze. By the way, proof exists that Brendel was acting against David's instructions and did put a stop to his activities when he became aware.

Let me assure you that you will eventually be identified and sued for slander with respect to your remarks about "Ruttenbergs sleaze." And believe me Mr. "Government Official," I know whatof I speak.

(warning, total sarcasm follows)

MP did things the hard way. They should have taken notes from the Fiefdom of Fairfax City, where if the "City" (i.e. Mayor, Council and staff) don't like a business or don't want "those people" around, they simply (a) buy the building, become the landlord, and either kick out the "undesireable" tenant or level the building for a "pocket park" or sell the land (usually at a loss) to their favorite developer, thus putting people out of business; or (b) call the ABC and have the establishments liquor license revoked (no prior notice or hearing of course) for minor technical infractions, also resulting in putting the people out of business.

Alternatively, as with the Fairfax Fiefdom, they could've simply bought or condemned all the parking lots in the area, (selling them to their favorite developer of course) thus forcing out the businesses quietly. No parking, no customers... no customers, no business. Very simple really. No public hearings are required apparently. And, so far, the Fairfax Fiefdom has gotten away with everything. Seems MP should be taking notes from the "masters of redevelopment run amuck" over in Fairfax.
