Literacy Night at Mullen Elementary last night. Kindergarden through Second-grade kids to put on a short program and get a book for coming. Tuesday night, I get a recorded message calling my house urging me to come. A few minutes later, I pick up and hear the same message in Spanish. (Comically, at the end after the Spanish, in English a speaker says “Press the Star key in you want to hear this message again”).

Yeah if you live around here you’re not even free from being cold-called in Spanish. By a local school.

At the program, the Principal makes a big show that they have a translator there for those who speak Spanish. And after all of her remarks the translator translates them into Spanish while Americans who can speak English sit and suffer. The worst aspect of this to me is that the little kids are apparently being taught, on a daily basis, that this country is bilingual and business is to be conducted in two languages.

Also the signs that kids were holding up signaling the crowd to be quiet please were done in English and again in Spanish.

Also the Principal said something to the effect, I don’t have the exact quote, of read to your kids and it’s not important that it be in English, it can be in any language and they’ll benefit from it, it can be in Spanish or German or any language. A dubious message for the Spanish underclass in my opinion.

In mitigation, the kids’ songs and poems and the tedious 45-minute storytelling segment were English-only, it was just the Administration’s remarks that were translated. But it was enough to really make me question what my child is being exposed to over there.

I notice also that despite this hue and cry about how you were going to have to present ID to get into our schools around here, nobody took any ID of anyone coming in (or walking away with the kids). I guess that would be at odds with the idea of the translator and of doing everything possible to make lawbreakers feel nice and cozy in Prince William County and with the Prince William County school system.

Why give away books, why not fake ID cards next time or maybe coupons for Dish Latino.

I thought you all might find the 2 below stories interesting.

The Centreville “community” has been holding public meetings to find “solutions” to the illegal immigrant problem.

The meetings appear to be bizzare and Orwellian “group think” brainwashing/propoganda sessions designed to seduce the public into believing the only solution to illegal immigration is accept it as inevitable and feel sorry for illegals.

    http://www.connectionnewspapers.com/article.asp?article=93703&paper=62&cat=104

My favorite exceprt from this story is: ‘He also noted that “illegal immigrants aren’t criminals” but, because they don’t have papers, people think they are.’

Why do all of our local newspapers suck so bad? I assume that most are probably owned by the same company, because they seem very synchronized on the issues and the spin that is put on the “news”. The Urinal Massager comes to my home occassionally, and it goes strait to the recycle bin. A terrible waste of paper, I think.

There’s not be a Trustee’s Deed recorded yet. That place looked pretty occupied last Saturday morning when we rolled by there. They may have come up with the payment too. I doubt that one though. Maybe, once the bank owns it PCE might actually go there and take look at that entire backyard paved that the county says everything has proper approval. I’d like to see that asphalt in the back tore up and the house tore down.

Have you noticed the curtains tied back in the front windows of the house next to Frapps? Called that one in last week because of the oversized driveway (or the now undersized front yard.) It sure looks like a bording house has sprouted up with all the cars. Did you also notice that the driveway goes all the way through to the back yard. Called the one in on Westmoreland also. That driveway/parking lot is almost as big as Giant’s. Have a few more “residents” in that yellow house on Greenview. Just wonder with all of these bording houses now sprouting up that the people moving into them are the ones who have had their houses foreclosed.

Yes, I checking that place out because I turned them in for a car parking in the backyard(last Saturday), and it’s now on the side of the house. Funny thing is, it had been in the backyard for about a week before I sent complaint. Then oddly enough Monday the car was not in the backyard anymore. Hmm..

Have you noticed the concrete walkway leading around to the back of the Bishop’s old house. Two doors down from the tied curtain house.

Now, onto Westmoreland…Loudoun and I have both called the police about that truck. The last time was 2/9/08, and I haven’t seen it since. How long is the tow truck with the vehicle on the back going to stay down there. I noticed today, there’s now a For Sale sign on the towtruck. Oh, how about that small boat on Lomond just past Westmoreland? It “ship wrecked” there sometime between Sunday night and early Monday morning.

You sure left no stone unturned. Did you go on down King George and see the Pinta, Nina, and Santa Maria in the yard of the house that should have been condemned 10 years ago. I wish someone would call that atrocity in. That is the worst house in Westgate, by far.

What are the truck rules for neighborhoods? I keep getting conflicting opinions. If you know them, I would appreciate you sharing the info or directing me to its source via a link.

    Dolf, Lafayette,

I haven’t checked on King George. Is it on the portion of KG that is near Stonewall MS or off to the left of Strasburg? Those pics Lafayette took of zoning violations are really sickening. There is no way that situations like those photos show should be happening. I hope zoning has taken action.
With regard to trucks, it seems to me that recently I saw something about what could and could not be parked in a residential area but can’t remember where I saw it. Will scout around and see if I can come up with something. It seems to me though it depended on the number of axels (more than 2) and vehicle weight (over 10-12,000 lbs) to be considered a commercial vehicle which could not be parked in a residential neighborhood. I’ll have to check Hank’s house and the concrete walkway. The for sale sign has been down for a couple of months now and place looks empty (but you never know who has the keys.) The “blue goose” probably won’t be there long. Some drunk will hit it eventually. If the trailer has no valid plates, it is no doubt parked illegally.

    Thank you V1!!!,

The Pinta, Nina, and Santa Maria are on the splashdown side of Strasburg, I think between Woodstock and Dublin…I think. It might be the other section, going towards the pool, on your left. Laf can pin point it better than I can. It is all just one big blur to me.

The zoning violations are mostly from last summer, and they have been taken care of. I’m very pleased to say, but it did take some time and effort.

That dump truck that was down on Westmoreland certainly qualified as a Commercial vehicle. It’s a crying shame those “taqueria” trucks don’t fall into the Comm. category.

I am turning the “blue goose” into Patty’s tagwatch email, and attach the photos. Tagwatch for tagless boats? What’s next?

Dolph’s right KG between Woodstock and Dublin. The 9600 block. If you are coming from the light on Strasburg go right on KG then at the end go right on Woodstock, then quick left onto the block, and the Yogi Bear and the “fleet” are on the left. The pictures are somewhere on my webshots.

    V1,

Thanks for the info and will check out Columbus’ fleet. The Blue Goose should be eligible for “sailing” to the impound lot if the trailer has no tags on it. Give the PD a call and they can verify that. Sounds like the inspectors have free reign to make decisions on whether or not to cite a property. It’s funny you mentioned your call re the house next to Frapps and find the car had been move just after the call. Basically the same thing happened to that car on the grass on Lomond that I called in. Short time after I called the car “disappeared” and few days later the inspector called and said there was no car on the grass. I told him exactly where on the lawn it was and how long it had been there. He got a little “huffy” about the car but again I pointed out exactly wher it had been parked and if he looked at the area, he would see the dead grass where the wheels had been. It did end on a good note because he said he found other discrepancies he would cite.

I remain hopeful we will see a change in PCE’s overall attitude.
I don’t call anymore. I know do it online, and if you want to attach pictures. Michelle Casiato said just send an email to neighborhood services. Attaching the “photographic evidence” littles no room for DENIAL!. I still say more flexible hours prior to 6am, after 6pm, and on the weekend. They could really rake in the bucks for all those signs in the medians. I found a couple of good ones on 234 yesterday at Portsmouth. Take a look. This is insane and the fine is $100 per sign. I saw a day care sign, a Singles in Manassas sign, and some other.

Could Obama Turn Red States Blue?

By Chris Cillizza And Shailagh Murray
    Sunday, February 24, 2008; Page A02

As Sen. Barack Obama creeps ever closer to the Democratic presidential nomination, the eyes of The Fix are more and more diverted to what a general election matchup between the senator from Illinois and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) might look like.

Obama’s campaign released a memo shortly after the Feb. 5 Super Tuesday votes that made a similar case, noting that in six states carried by President Bush in 2004 — Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota and South Carolina — Obama received more votes than the top two Republican finishers combined. (Since that memo, the trend has held true in Nebraska, Louisiana and Virginia.)

It’s obvious that a handful of red states — Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, Virginia — are almost certain to be competitive whether Obama or Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) is the Democratic nominee. The demographics in those states have shifted toward Democrats of late, and the party made gains in each in 2006.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/23/AR2008022302274.html?tid=informbox

Ducky….puleeezzzzzzeeee! I did not see one racist comment in those statements. The poster was merely stating that bilingualism (aka cover word in liberal terms for Spanish in our school system) is being pushed! Bilingualism means (being able to learn/speak any second language…not just Spanish…yes, that’s right….it is a choice). However, we all know that the liberal school system uses the word bilingual as a smoke screen for Spanish. You know that too! We here have every right to demand that we not turn into a Spanish speaking (or any other lanugage speaking) nation. We speak English here. Adapt or move out.

    Shooters!

Ammo prices are going up! I saw an increase of 3 cents per round since I last bought target ammo a month ago.

The demand for lead, copper and brass is increasing world-wide, so stock up.

And please pass the word if you find good deals. :-)

    Lafayette,

I know in your past posts you’ve said you can get title info on properties. I’m concerned that a self proclaimed illegal and his 13 relatives abandoned his condo in the same building as mine when the idiot didn’t drain his outside faucet and it burst some pipes inside the unit and trashed the bottom two floors. They have been gone for a few weeks now. If I get you the address can you give me the name of the bank so I can write them and they can make sure the heat is on in the unit so no more pipes will bust and affect the rest of the building?

Greg, please give Lafayette my email address if she can help me. Thanks

    [Ed note: Done.]

If you haven’t already, perhaps you should e-mail that article to our illustrious govenor. It may not change his mind (and probably won’t) but at least it will show him what inaction breeds.

Former undocumented worker Bernard Ortiz, an Altoona resident who is now a U.S. citizen and human rights activist, told lawmakers that the proposal would reinforce negative stereotypes that are harmful to Latinos.

“All these laws will increase stereotypes, harassment, racism. It’s just more obstacles for me,” Ortiz said
    ******************************

Isn’t this the idea? How is enforcing the law promoting racism? I guess they are relying on the politically correct crowd to come forward and say, OMG, there is the “R” word. We can’t have any of that going on around here. Let’s just hide our heads in the sand and maybe it will go away or give them what they want so they will not say the “R” word again.

BS!!! Let’s enforce the law no matter what they claim is racism. It isn’t since ALL ILLEGAL aliens will be affected by this, not just one group.

Time and again, courts at all levels are upholding anti-illegal alien statutes. The illegal alien lobby is getting desperate and is gasping it’s last. Name-calling , whining and finger-pointing won’t work. No matter who gets elected POTUS, we will continue the fight until the illegals are gone. The will of the people will continue to prevail, as it did last year.

    No puede!

For ‘Jose,’ there is no place like the Oklahoma panhandle. This is home for me because I have never been back, he says. Never been back to Mexico since his parents brought him to the U.S. illegally when he was five. After Oklahoma enacted laws that punish employers who hire undocumented people, his family considered returning to Mexico.
    ********************
How is this our problem? No one made them come across the border ILLEGALLY and have children. The threat that the family will be broken up is BS. All of them can go back together. No one says the anchor baby has to stay here.
    ********************

But for Jose, that move would be foreign. “I’ve never been to Mexico since I was five. I have siblings that were born here. They have never even been to Mexico…and that doesn’t look like a future for my family.” Half his family members are citizens, and the others are illegal.
    ********************
Again, how is this OUR problem?
    ********************

“It really isn’t fair for the American tax dollars to provide for these people,” says Ursula Whitfield. But another leader calls the law a human injustice and warns it will only do the city harm as workers leave. I suspect we would lose some of the companies who’ve moved in recent years, says Father Bill Pruett of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
    ********************
What benefit are they when they are not paying the proper taxes for their employees? Why isn’t the Father up in arms about the people being exploited for corporate greed and profits due to their slave status?

A self-deporter made an interesting point-she said that she had to get citizen I.D.’s for her kids to attend school in Mexico (wow, imagine that?) and in order to do that, had to denounce their U.S. citizenship. Anchors away!

WAY COOL!!!!! That is good. If the jobs dry up here, more will be self deporting soon as well. Many states are getting tired of supporting these people and the citizens will start pressuring the legislators to do something. I think even more so than before since money is about to be tight with the economy is headed the way it is. Also more laws passed that punish employers for hiring ILLEGAL aliens will help with the self deportation.

    Lafayette,

Thanks so much for your diggin the info out for me. You’re awesome!!! I’ll take your advice and mail the bank the info you found.

    Medic,

Poor ‘Jose’, he just wants to stay in the panhandle that nobody else wants to stay in (tongue in cheek).

    Dave in PWC,

Yeah I think so too. It is not our problem that they choose to have the anchor babies and now they have to go back. Take the child with you. I am sorry if they are in HS, but you broke the law and now you ave to pay the consequences. The ole saying goes, if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime right??

    Medic,

You’re not old enough to have watched Baretta are you?

I agree, take those anchor babies with you when you leave and don’t let the door hit you on the way back across the river. Bet those innertube sales are skyrocketing along the US side of the border…

    Dave,

I am old enough :) Robert Blake as Det Tony Baretta. One of my favorites. It ended in the late 70’s I believe. I watched it towards the end. I was in my teens ;) I do not remember all of the episodes, but I do remember it as a whole. Why??

I tubed down the Current River in MO one summer. Wasn’t much current because it hadn’t rained. I wound up paddling most of the way. Wasn’t as much fun as advertised.
