Thank you council for acting! This is not about prejudice or racism, it’s about fairly enforcing laws! Hopefully the next step will be for local government to require employers with business licenses to abide by Federal laws related to the employment of illegal aliens (as in it’s illegal)

Funny, how they never seem to question the ethics and responsibility of the police any other time, except when it comes to the beloved illegals and the enforcement of the law.

The top three Hispanic jurisdictions in Virginia:
Manassas Park (30%), Manassas (27%) and

The only ones that I could think that berated the Council would be the pro illegal alien group.

Most of us in the County do thank the City for adopting the 287g program.

I noticed that most of the people who berated the Council were from the county.

Most of those who thanked the Council were Manassas City residents.

Irish-American - Not exactly. Employers are not allowed to use E-Verify for pre-screening purposes. An employee would be hired and within three days after being hired the employer would verify the SSN through E-Verify. More info on E-Verify, it’s success in other states, and efforts to require it in Virginia is the lead article in the current Help Save Manassas newsletter. I thought you might have been referring to that bill. It has nothing to do with business licenses. It’s aimed at businesses that contract with the state or local gummints. From the way the MJM reported about it, you’d think it had some “teeth” to it. Here’s my comment on the MJM website:

The bill regarding public contracting is worthless. It does not, as your article states, say, “No contract with a public entity in Virginia can be awarded to a company that cannot prove that all employees are authorized to work in the U.S.” Instead, it provides that, “the contractor does not, and shall not during the performance of the contract for goods and services in the Commonwealth, knowingly employ an unauthorized alien.” This is a big difference. The bill does not require contractors to check the legality of its workforce, it only prohibits them from KNOWINGLY hiring illegals. If an illegal shows up and gives phony information, the contractor would not violate this law, as it is currently written, by hiring him.

A SSN is entered into an online database and the response is back in seconds as to a match between the name and the SSN. Several states such as Arizona and Oklahoma have mandated businesses use E-Verify and the results have been dramatic - thousands of illegals have self-deported because they can no longer work.
