Dolph,

You really need to read his letter. He admits to saying he would not support a gas tax, yet thought it was needed after the recall of the abusive driver fees.

Same goes for the in State tuition for illegals. He now says if they have been here for a minimum number of years and on the "path" to Citizenship, he says he supports in-State tuition for them.

Not my words, not my opinion, those are his words.

Being a good conservative myself , I am dumbfounded at the actions of Quayle, Stolle and Norment. It is hard for us to say the dems defeated HB623 when these spineless examples of conservatives did a "duh, I'm not gonna vote" and two more abscounded with no vote! Hats off to those that did vote for it, but sadly the republicans cannot blame the dems for the defeat. I can only hope we have more honest choices the next election year. I know that sounds like a fairy tale but one can only hope!

COM,

I recall him saying he did not support a gas tax hike. I do not recall a promise that he would not vote for one under any circumstances. Perhaps I am wrong. I accept direct quotes. I also do not recall his exact words about illegal immigrants and instate college fees.

I do think a politician has to use common sense and judgement. When the funding law was gutted, where will the money come from? Transportation is probably the #1 issue for northern Virginians. The money to take care of it is not going to fall from the sky.

Dolph,

He lied when he said he would not vote for an increase in the gas tax, and his letter pretty much said as much. He said he would not vote to allow illegals to get instate tuition, he voted to grant them instate tuition. How can you say he did not lie?

Pretty funny heartbleed.

You want to call out those horrible right wingers, but not you boy chucky who lied. I love liberal logic. What he is supposed to do is use his word that he would not vote to increase the gas tax. It is called control spending. Timmy Kaine fully understands we are in a budget crisis, yet he wants to increase spending and fund new programs. Yup, that makes sense.

Colgan is full of it. The three judge panel of the 9th circuit has refused to injoin the state of Arizona from requiring employers to use E Verify. Also judges Neil Wake,James Payne and a judge in a local case have all approved of these laws.

COM,

I do not see that he has lied. We will just have to agree to disagree on that one. And he has done a thing or two to irritate me of late. Lying isn't one of those things however.

As to my point, when traveling around the blog I keep seeing people say, 'It is time for Colgan to go.' Now don't you think that is a rather silly statement given the circumstances? I was hoping I didn't have to say that. I find it tiresome and chose to comment.

Dolph,

What is the point of your post? He lied during the campaign, and that pisses people off. People who took his word and voted for him, and his actions show just how he much he respects them.

If he is so confident in his opinion and votes, why did he think he had to lie in order to gain votes in the election? If he is such a good man, why did he mislead voters? He should have stood up like a man and said these are my positions, if you don't like them fine, but I am not going to lie in order to gain votes. I don't recall Jackson Miller lying in the campaign, and voting differently. Yes, there are those that do not like Jackson, but no one can say he has changed positions on the issues like Chucky has.

Senator Colgan was just re-elected. Regardless of how many of you feel it is time for him to go, he won the election and will hold it for 4 years, God willing. Additionally, he is President pro tempore of the Senate. If the Lt. Gov is absent, Senator Colgan performs his duties.

You can say time for him to go all you want. That isn't going to make it happen.

I read the letter from Senator Colgan and while he made some key points, AS a Sr. Member he should be able to influence the Saslaw clown in regards to illegal immigration. I just feel that the letter he wrote is his ATTEMPT to cover up his lack of effort.

It’s time for Colgan to go…he will no longer get my vote and there are others just like me who feel like he gave an half A$$ed effort on the issue of illegal immigration.

Obvious you don't know Saslaw, no one I know has influenced him in the General assembly for the 32 years he has been here.

If Quayle, Stolle and Norment had not taken a "walk" to avoid voting the bill would have come out of committee and would have passed on the senate floor due to Roscoe voting for it. So you can blame it on the Ds but it was the Rs who had a chance to pass it and took a walk rather than cast a vote.

Greg: initiate a "death watch" on anyone in the state that is murdered, raped, or physically assaulted by an illegal alien and then let's take that to the media to report. A list of faces and bios can be displayed that shows that these senators were responsible for their deaths, assaults or rapes. Their families can then personally sue these lawmakers and the state of Virginia for aiding and abetting these crimes. Something like this could really turn the tide against corrupt politicians if they are publicly shamed and held accountable for their actions.

I don't care how you spin it, Colgan has pretty much done what he said he was going to do if he was re-elected. He has not lied to his constituents at all.

On any issue before the Assembly, ESPECIALLY the illegal alien issue, there is always work to be done to keep legislators' "feet to the fire." We would be saying the same thing had the Fitzsimmonds/Colgan race turned out differently. Things happen to these guys in the General Assembly...they get tugged in different directions and try to take the path of least resistance many times. It is our job to keep the pressure on them....so doing the right thing by this issue is always the "path of least resistance." Expressing your opinion in the voting booth is just step one of this long process. There are 100 different things you can do to make an elected official’s life miserable until he does the right thing. Don't ever let an elected official think that all he or she has to do is get through the election and they’re home free until they face the voters again in their next election. They should have to FACE THE VOTERS every day they are in office.

As for me, I am going to turn my wrath on the biggest liars and weak-kneed cowards of them all, Sens. Stolle, Norment, and Quayle. There are ways to make them regret this latest sham and fraud they've pulled over the 287g vote. How does Stolle sleep at night knowing that there are grieving parents in his home city who have had children killed by a drunk-driving, criminal alien? He can walk out on a vote that gives us a way to keep this sort of thing from happening again? There are certain legislators who have not only lost their way, they have lost their soul.

Disgusting.

That happens in mine as well. We also look to expenditures to make sure the money is going out productively. The entertainment budget gets cut first. Seems the law makers have that same feeling, but instead of the entertainment budget it is the education budget.

It’s time for Colgan to go…he will no longer get my vote and there are others just like me who feel like he gave an half A$$ed effort on the issue of illegal immigration.

You are quite correct. He could have done a lot more to push that bill but he did not have the will to do the right thing. You will not have to make the decision to not vote for him again. He has already said this is his last term in office (he is over 80 years old.......maybe that is part of the problem.)

"That bill has passed both the House and Senate. It was projected that this law would have generated $65 million toward transportation funding. Some method had to be found to reimburse the state $65 million in lost revenue."

In my house when we have a shortfall we STOP SPENDING. Why do we run our state any differently than we run our own households?

One thing I don't get about the E-verify bill. I thought other states had already passed identical legilslation. One would think that our lawmakers would have followed the successful template created by other states. Maybe this is all part of the game; the bill was written intentionally so that it would conflict with law, in the event that it somehow made it out of committee and was passed.

I AGREE 1,000,000% A little CYA is in that letter. I wasn't one of those that jumped on the Colgan bandwagon when all of this legislation was introduced. I wanted to see him fight for and defend it. He never did and it was eaten up by committee. He made good on his promise to introduce legislation, but he failed to follow through. I agree, as a Sr. member, he should be able to pull in this Saslaw character.

Sen. Puller has continuously obstructed efforts to enforce immigration law at the state/local level, the number one issue for those Prince William County Districts in the 36th with the almost daily addition of more and more voices from the Fairfax Districts to the call to put an end to the damage citizens suffer from the effects of illegal aliens.

It's time we send someone who "gets it" down to Richmond from the 36th that will work in a bi-partisan manner to accomplish what the people want rather than grandstanding, obstructing and voting strictly along party lines.
