I previously complained about Mullen Elementary conducting "Literacy Night" in 2 languages.

Now get this one. My grandson tells me this year in school they sat and watched "Finding Nemo" - in Spanish (no subtitles). They had to sit and watch it and quote "I was very bored". It was part of "Spanish Day".

Our tax dollars go towards making our kids watch movies in Spanish to no purpose other than to promote a bilingual PWC. I am very angry about this. I do intend to speak to my representative about this.

http://www.islam-watch.org/LeavingIslam/Muslim-Way-Out-of-Islam.htm
"Liberalism, individual privacy and freedom, freedom of speech and freedom of belief - all of this and any other component of modernity you can think of directly contradicts Islamic belief."

So...once again...another great article by an ex-muslim. You liberals who think everyone will embrace your ways and hold hands....why don't you read the quote above from the article.

Check this out over the weekend there was a "Foreclosure Bus Tour" that took place in western PWC. I sure would like to the bus roll from one end of this county to the other. I hope this catches on and perhaps the revitalization can really begin.

I like the fact Chick Fil A is closed on Sunday. Of course because they are a private company makes it much easier, since they do not have to answer to shareholders. Though, I suppose the fact they are packing in the customers, the real shareholders seem to agree with them being closed.

I wish we coule get rid of the Spanish tv networks and Spanish radio. It enables the immigrants not to learn English. We all have to suffer from people not speaking English. I'm sick of going shopping and not hearing English spoken here in Woodbridge.

Dolph,
I do know that they've recently gotten 4 new inspectors.
The turn around time is about 5 days from complaint being made. This time last year it was about 7days. I think the time will shorten with the additional staff, but I don't hold my breath.

There've been several ordinances passed since last summer that seem to take some time before it actually trickles down to the inspectors. I just think the postition needs to be taken seriously by all, and not some continually turning the blind eye. That behavior must stop.

Had to ask,

How many property code enforcement folks are there? There seemed to be an awfully long time between complaint being filed and any sort of inspection when I heard that report given back in the fall.

When were the new laws passed and are they state or county ordinances?

It was my understanding that this department was under-staffed. I was assuming my source was reliable.

Sounds like Mexico is going green or feels the impact of green dollars and have now become demanding.

"Mexico Abruptly Restricts Car Imports
Sunday March 2, 3:57 pm ET
By Christopher Sherman, Associated Press Writer
Mexico Abruptly Bans Imports of Most Used Autos, Causing Panic Among South Texas Dealers

Until now, used cars 10 to 15 years old were scooped up at auction by South Texas used car dealers and rapidly sold to Mexicans hungry for affordable transportation and "la novedad" -- or novelty -- of unfamiliar makes and models.

Cars newer than that were banned from imports as unwelcome competition for Mexican car dealers, and anything more than 15 years old was seen as a potential environmental and safety hazard."

But now, under pressure from Mexico's new car dealers who say "vehiculos chatarra," or jalopies, undercut their sales, the Mexican government is allowing only 10-year-old used cars to be legally imported into Mexico.

All of a sudden, 1998 Luminas, Astro vans and Ranger pickups are sought-after trophies.

The Mexican Association of Automobile Distributors, which pushed for the change, said it was needed to "stop the accelerated conversion of our country into the world's biggest automotive garbage dump."

"The worse thing we can do is buy something that we don't know if it can go across (the border)," Juan Gutierrez said. "If a 1997 worth $3,000 can't cross, it's not even worth $1,500."

Did anyone other than me notice all of the activity at the corner of Strasburg St. and Sudley Manor Dr. on Saturday. Looked like a car auction was being held at the house on the corner. Vehicles parked for sale on the grass, people milling about the large number of cars in the driveway/back yard, cars parked on a trailer on the side of the house? Looks like someone running a car business out of there!

I believe lead paint use in homes was outlawed in 1969.

"The houses now have mold growing in them. This is a HEALTH HAZARD!!"

With that said, it brings up another question. Will the houses be condoned? If the answer is yes, more and more houses are sitting and face the same scenario. Then what? ( I know, " I like to ask "why" to much, lol)

redawn,
Many of these house have sat for two winters now. The pipes have burst last winter or recently this year. The houses now have mold growing in them. This is a HEALTH HAZARD!!
We have had to self deportations this weekend and one new neigbhor move in across the street. That now makes 12 Vacant houses out of 30. This is very devistating to a once thriving community. I have gathered up some pictures of WestGate from the late 60's to current day, I must get the old pictures scanned and let the history of WestGate be shown.

By the way do you patronize places of business’ on Sundays? If so you are part of the reason they are open Sundays.

Truthfully, on very, very few occasions. After church on Sunday, it is usally "chill" day doing basically nothing. I do not spend my
Sunday's shopping. There are six other days of the week that can be done. I don't know whether your are old enough to remember "Blue Laws." Stores were not allowed to open on Sunday and those that were, were restricted as to what could be sold. The quest for the "almighty dollar" big greedy business changed that. A lot of the business you see open on Sunday are the same ones you see the day after thanksgiving open at midnight to get a few more bucks in their coffers while paying their employees minimum wage. To each his own!

They are sitting and sitting.... more and more will be weathered or vandalized. Just stop and think about what will be the next solution?
I know everyones first thought is investors will buy them up and then they become rentals or sec 8. Go beyond that? If that is not the option everyone wants then what? ( that is the tongue and cheek question:) )
