Last-Ditch Efforts To Protect Illegal Aliens
By Greg L | 1 March 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Crime, Prince William County | 53 Comments
According to WUSA Channel 9, Mexicans Without Borders has been trying to prepare the area’s illegal aliens for Prince William County’s enforcement of the Rule of Law Resolution that will take full effect on Monday. As part of their efforts, they are trying to provide illegal aliens with a crash-course in how to take full advantage of constitutional protections against self-incrimination, in part by handing out this flier, which first started showing up in the area when Casa de Maryland was concerned about ICE workplace enforcement efforts in Montgomery County, MD. They also appear to be lining up attorneys to represent illegal aliens who are detained by the Prince William County Police Department, hoping to prevent deportations.
Although it is annoying to have open-borders activists attempt to subvert the law, what they’re doing is perfectly legal, and entirely expected. All persons subject to the jurisdiction of the United States do enjoy certain constitutional protections, and the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Amendments do protect suspected illegal aliens. It makes sense, because almost all the protections these afford apply prior to a judicial determination that someone is actually an illegal alien. Simply being suspected of being an illegal alien doesn’t mean that a swath of the Constitution doesn’t apply to you. Also, there’s nothing wrong about being fully informed about your rights as a defendant, even if that means that police will have a marginally more difficult time investigating violations of the law. Let’s put this canard to rest that illegal aliens get no protections under the Constitution. They do, and arguing otherwise just diminishes the credibility of your arguments.
That doesn’t at all mean that citizens shouldn’t feel enraged that Mexicans Without Borders is actively attempting to shield lawbreakers from the consequences of their unlawful behavior. It may be legal, but it is behavior that will undoubtedly upset a lot of people. When an organization seeks to undermine law enforcement efforts and protect a class of criminals who many feel are delivering upon them personally a steady stream of terribly aggravating problems, it does cement in their minds how personal their own fight against Mexicans Without Borders really is. If citizens are dealing with residential overcrowding next door, safety and security issues on their street, MS-13 gang activity in their neighborhood and other problems that relate to the unlawful presence of illegal aliens in their community, to see Mexicans Without Borders do everything they can to ensure these lawbreakers can evade the law doesn’t cause citizens to reduce their vigilance, but to redouble it. All Help Save Manassas likely needs to do to counter this is to start handing out these fliers to citizens, and show them what the illegal alien supporters are trying to do.
Fortunately these efforts are likely to produce very little in the way of effective protection for illegal aliens. Probable cause is established more by the behavior of a person, rather than what that person may happen to say to an officer during a traffic stop. Should a suspect in a traffic violation decide to clam up, there’s a rather substantial document trail for licenses, registration and insurance documentation that can establish probable cause regardless of what the suspect says or fails to say, for example. Keeping silent might help a few evade the law at least temporarily, but if your behavior is unlawful, the police department will get you at some point if they’re dedicated to doing so. Let’s hope their dedication to enforcing this law is equal to the dedication they display towards enforcing the law to American citizens.
The hysteria that Mexicans Without Borders and their allies have been whipping up has absolutely convinced a significant proportion of our illegal alien population that jackbooted thugs are going to start busting down doors and hauling illegal aliens off to concentration camps. I’ve heard reports that some believe Prince William County has enacted a law that makes it a crime to speak spanish in public, for example. Now Mexicans Without Borders is in the position of trying to calm the unfounded fears they established while reports continue to pile in that illegal aliens are fleeing Prince William County. Of note is that school enrollments have dropped substantially in Prince William County over the past few months, they have actually increased in the City of Manassas, which suggests that it is now viewed as a relative safe haven, a rather dangerous misconception for these folks to latch on to. Someday, perhaps, the immigrant community is going to realize that Mexicans Without Borders has been lying to them in order to try to enlist more people in their cause, but at the rate it’s going, the pool of potential members for them is shrinking fast.
If the behavior of Mexicans Without Borders enrages you, there is more you can do than just simply vent your frustration in this thread. There’s a growing number of local organizations dedicated to combating their agenda in Virginia that you can find here, and since they don’t get the lavish funding and support that Mexicans Without Borders appears to enjoy, another volunteer working on this issue or a donation can make a big difference. Don’t just whine about this. Do something.

That works.
Looks like the coloring books the Mexican government distributes to help it’s citizens cross the border.
Seriously, check this one out. There are a couple of pictures in this “Guide for Migrants” that I swear are the funniest thing in the world (and I don’t think they’re meant to be funny!)

Isn’t this blatant “aiding and abetting”? The people that have produced these obviously know illegals. They should be prosecuted.
Prince William County’s finest should add a quick course in federal subversion and sedition to their repertoire so that Mexicans Without Borders and their lawyers friends can quickly become Mexicans without freedoms.

In case the “coloring books” should be deemed harmless, I can assure you that these documents are promoting illegal behavior just by their instructions and there is nothing funny about them. This publication is VERY valuable, not only to illegals but to any criminal that wants to avoid prosecution or to render prosecution nearly impossible. What is a crime here is that the brochure is promoting rights that are inherent to american citizenship not for any other. In addition, the counsel not to carry any identifying docuemnts to render their identification or provenance impossible is a definite act of avoiding law abiding. These brochures are so valuable that in themselves they will render prosecution nearly impossible if the person captured follows all of its advice be the letter.
Whoever is publishing these brochures should be carted away for acts against the country, since these brochures are also aiding illegal aliens who are here for terroristic purpose to learns a few more pointers on how to avoid being identified. This is something that should be reported to Homeland Security, so that the phrase “do not carry any identifying documents” can be erased.
If this publication is given by anyone who has an official role, then this person must be held accountable.
Well, anybody up for a late lunch tomorrow? Don’t forget your camera phone (more discreet) and digital recorder! I think I’ll go early and check out the landscape. See y’all there!

I’m a simple guy; however, isn’t organizing resistance to the law a bit illegal? This looks like a case of sedition to me.

Lenin would be proud.
This is the same type of flier radical leftists gave politically-naive demonstrators in the 1960s — just before they threw rocks and bottles over their heads at the police while hiding in the rear ranks. MSF comes from the same roots.
Why is the flyer in English? Who is it for?
[Ed note: the flyer has a spanish and english version. I don’t have a copy of the spanish version.]
just news.
I meant comic books, and I certainly don’t consider them harmless. In fact, I think they’re an absolute outrage! But I do get a kick out of the picture of the dude pasting the woman (it’s Mexican, so that’d be his wife) with the girl right there. And the “don’t sign any documents” picture. What’s with that woman! Detain me!

Yea, same mindset. History can teach those that are mindful of it, i.e. communism is an utterly failed concept. Sigh. Let ‘em play their games.

Why is the flyer in English? Who is it for?
Not only that… All the “undocumented” in the flyer look Hispanic. Are they admitting the obvious!? What about the gazillion Asian, African, Irish, (insert whatever here), “undocumented” folks!? Why aren’t THEY represented in the flyer?
This is an outrage! They are disenfranchising gazillions of non-hispanic undocumented immigrants!
[Okay. Got carried away.
But the anti-Americans, and that’s what they truly are, really pi$$ me off.]
The gazillion other undocumenteds, that you mentioned, have not been targeted. Everything I read and everything I see is all about Hispanics.
Bottom-line is…..a legal citizen would NOT “need” these items or have a need to attend any call to action. Only those who are involved in “aiding and abetting” and/or illegal aliens themselves would “need” these items or need to go to the meeting. Therefore, one could conclude that the groups holding the meetings and publishing the “help” books are involved in “aiding and abetting”…which (according to the law is a FELONY). These people should be prosecuted. Are there any lawyers out there that can look into this?
From the article cited above:
“Ironically the meeting was held at Tacos Moya, a
Woodbridge restaurant that may soon close because the county’s anti-immigrant mood has reduced a lot of its business.
“My customers are scared and even though I like PW I will have to relocate elsewhere,” says Salvador Moya who adds, “I don’t understand why Prince William County is passing laws that can drive away tax paying businesses and customers.”"
Good point. Expect the PWC tax base to be significantly eroded, and property values to continure declining, after the measures take effect.
http://www.newstimes.com/latestnews/ci_8419815
This is why we need to start prosecuting legal citizens who are involved in “aiding and abetting”.
Ducky…actually…the tax base was just fine until about 5 years ago when all of the illegals started flooding in. So why don’t you get your facts straight.

Read this for yourself, my good man, about economic consequences:
Towns Rethink Laws Against Illegal Immigrants
VERSIDE, N.J., Sept. 25 — A little more than a year ago, the Township Committee in this faded factory town became the first municipality in New Jersey to enact legislation penalizing anyone who employed or rented to an illegal immigrant.
Within months, hundreds, if not thousands, of recent immigrants from Brazil and other Latin American countries had fled. The noise, crowding and traffic that had accompanied their arrival over the past decade abated.
The law had worked. Perhaps, some said, too well.
With the departure of so many people, the local economy suffered. Hair salons, restaurants and corner shops that catered to the immigrants saw business plummet; several closed. Once-boarded-up storefronts downtown were boarded up again.
So last week, the town rescinded the ordinance, joining a small but growing list of municipalities nationwide that have begun rethinking such laws as their legal and economic consequences have become clearer.
“I don’t think people knew there would be such an economic burden,” said Mayor George Conard, who voted for the original ordinance. “A lot of people did not look three years out.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/26/nyregion/26riverside.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
Ducky…it doesn’t matter what that article said…I was in this town longer than 5 years ago and it was just fine. The only economic problems will be encountered by businesses that rely on illegal aliens for their business or who hire them. Who cares! We don’t need those here. It will allow legit businesses to actually get work now. It will also enable people who did not want to move here due to the illegal alien problem to finally come in and buy houses which will help the economy. No one wants to move into a known illegal alien area (unless of course you are an illegal alien or a person who “aids and abets”).
Businesses that catered to the immigrants suffered. So what? Were these businesses owned and operated by legal residents? The town lost money because they didn’t replace the population that left. If every last illegal left PWC tomorrow, we would survive. As far as property values plummeting, blame the constuction/mortgage/real estate industries. Anybody can see that the price increases were artificial and could not stand scrutiny.
The “jack-booted thugs” are coming from your side of the camp, dear moderator and others. (Yes, there is proof, and I’m not going to provide any more here).
The hysteria about “illegals” is coming from websites like these, from John Stirrup, and Corey Stewart, propaganda that does nothing but foster racism and hatred and violence. The proof is in the stats: PWC cares more about transportation than “illegals.”
Of course people are hysterical. Of course they want lawyers. You would, too, if we decided to suddenly deport every person with an ax to grind against a single population whose crime is civil, not criminal.
Next time you get a speeding ticket, think about being hauled down to the police station and interrogated. Think about being threatened to get thrown out and sent back to wherever it is your family came from originally.
It has happened before, and it will happen more, now. It could be YOU.
The Patriot
you are absolutely correct, the tax base is being adjusted because of the falling house prices not because of the absence or presence of illegal aliens. The problem is that the budget cannot be adjusted downwards (a tightening of the belt perhaps) and the city and county does not want to suffer budget cuts it truly cannot even find. The issue here is that the budget is overinflated due to the fact that we have so many more people who are using the system illegally and placing a burden on the county by not contributing with taxes and using emergency and hospital services without payment. This argument has been made before. Anyone who even thinks that the new tax base for real estate property taxes is due to illegal aliens leaving or our inhospitable ways (choke) is deluding himself or worse is a proselytizing fool who tries to make the citizens who do belong here less than humane. The issue should be remanded to the federal gov (sigh) who should provide funds for the non implimentation of immigration laws, so that any budget shortfall for our illegal presence can be met without placing a burden on the law abiding citizens. Additionallly, fines should be levied against the credit and lending institutions for allowing the reckless lending practices and the consequent overinflation of house prices and the natural adjustment in prices now, at the times of default and in my mind, a time of reckoning. The US government should have stopped these lending practices a long time ago and should have demanded that loans and the people who assumed them should be verified by exacting standards.
kgotthardt, hysteria is coming from the Hispanic community and media. While there are those in the “anti-illegal” camp who are perhaps more passionate and unkind than they should be, most people feel that it is just not right that an illegal population comes here expecting not to have to follow the laws that other people follow. If there were as many people educating the illegal population on following the rule of law as there were educating them on evading the law, things would be a lot better for everyone!
Dignidad
I do not feel that there is anything less than complete access to our resources and illegals know full well how to abide the law if they wish to do so. Unfortunately, they choose not do so. They actually pride themselves in finding new and clever ways of ripping off the system and the people within it. They feel no allegiance to this country and are actually quite happy to make the “gringo” suffer if they can. This nonsense that we are not helping them abide by the laws because we are not educating them is bollocks! They hand each other pamphlets on how to skirt the law and any other ordnance or rule. But that is just it, they don’t want to follow the rule. That is the difference between law abiding citizens and not. We are giving illegals access to full education and anything they desire. As a matter of facts they get much more than legal citizens are, firstly among these access to free medical care. Considering that 40% of Americans don’t have health insurance and many end up in bankruptcy caused by medical bills, it makes my blood boil when someone comes up with another way of faulting us or of making us look like we are not “educating the illegal population on following the rule of law”. These people know the law and constitutional rights better than we do and choose to break every rule there is and laugh in our face as they do!!!

I don’t see any news articles or any TV or radio news items about the “other” un-documented. I wonder why? Have you seen homes trashed by say Bulgarians, Irish or Canadians. Have you seen “bunk houses” overcrowded with French, Japanese or Italians? The reason everything you read and everything you see is is all about Hispanics IS because the major problem IS Latinos!
Hispanics are the majority is the only reason they get the most attention. Check out how people feel about undocumented Koreans. You will find they don’t fare any better. It all depends on when you are talking about. The Italians, Irish and Poles have all their turn. No Irish Need Apply is not just an expression. 20 years ago Jews were not allowed to join certain country clubs.
I don’t think one can compare a NJ factory town to Manassas. Allowing illegals to open beauty shops are not going to solve the problems of places like Verside. Just like Youngstown OH, Gary IN, and a million other factory towns, they were ruined by state and federal regulations, as well as a trade policy that gave industries no reason to stick around.

That’s largely because Hispanic immigrants are younger than the nation’s aging baby boom population. By 2030, all 79 million boomers will be at least 65 and the elderly will grow faster than any other age group.”

“Hispanics are the nation’s largest and fastest growing minority group; at 46 million strong, they make up about 15% of the U.S. population. Their electoral clout continues to be undercut, however, by the fact that many are ineligible to vote, either because they are not citizens or not yet 18 years old. In 2008, Latinos will comprise about 9% of the eligible electorate nationwide. If past turnout trends persist, they will make up only about 6.5% of those who actually turn out to vote next November.”

Any news about what went on at the East Coast Cafe meeting?
Those “No Irish Need Apply”signs may be nothing more than an American urban myth:
http://tigger.uic.edu/~rjensen/no-irish.htm
This morning on the news, an unidentified, self-acknowledged illegal aliens, told a reporter he has put his house up for sale and his daughter is crying because she doesn’t want to move.
This may be a dumb question, but: How does a lender run a mortgage credit check for a borrower who is living in the country illegally and working with with forged (or no) papers?
If anyone knows the address of this house, would you please share - I would love to ask the lender how that mortgage managed to slide through.
When I went through my loan process it was RIDICULOUS in all the documentation and checks that were performed! Seems that certain individuals get a “pass” on things.
Today is a Good Day and I look forward to the rules NOW being enforced!
We must all obey the Laws of The Land…This is the bottom line and those that have broken the law/laws must suffer the consequences. A special “Thank You” for the Board of Supervisor, to the PWC and Manassas City Police Force, To Help Save Manassas and to whoever has made an effort to rid this area of all “Illegal ALIENS”! THANK YOU…THANK YOU…THANK YOU!
P.S.
Lot of these illegals
are now moving to Sterling,
Arlington, Fairfax County and
now I’m anxious to see what the
2 clows (Connelly and Sasli (whatever his name is)
will now do!

Bridget, believe me, those signs were not myths. I am originallyfrom Boston and am second generation Irish. One particular company who had those signs in Boston was the Lipton tea company according to my mother. Thomas Lipton was an Englishman who had no love for the irish. I am sure there were others.
“I would bet a month’s salary that the realtor and broker were LATINOS.”
Come on, they’re just helping out their peepilz.
As for No Irish Need Apply, look at old newspapers. That is where I have seen it. The Irish faced terrible discrimination in many parts of the United States.
There’s a BIG difference between policies of “No Irish need apply” and “No illegal aliens need apply.” The former is highly discriminatory…the latter is the LAW!

This isn’t hysteria, this is fed up with the federal Gov’t not doing something about the ILLEGAL aliens. It is fed up with those here ILLEGALLY getting benefits from those who pay taxes. OK, this flyer is kinda comical. I couldn’t get past page 6 where they advise to collect important papers, and the pictures shows a file box with a birth certificate, marriage certifcate, passport, others and…………DUI. Now THAT is funny!
I keep reading that these illegals “can’t afford” to come here legally, that the fees are too much to pay.
Now, when they can pay a coyote $5000. (or more) per family member to get them here illegally, I think the argument that it is not affordable is bogas. It comes down to greed and laziness. I don’t want to hear it anymore.
Annonymous of 8:34 am,
With all due respect to your family history in Boston - and your mother’s memory of NINA signs: As the posted article states, there is often little more than heresay from elder relatives to go on - and no documented evidence of NINA signs and newspaper adds being posted in any widespread fashion. The newspaper want adds appear to be minimal at best.
As the author states in the introduction: “The fact that the Irish vividley “remember” NINA signs is a curious historical puzzle.”
A curious historical puzzle becouse evidence that employers did not want Irish employees in a wholesale fashion is absent.
If NINA signs were as prevelant as we have been told - then it would stand to reason that the unemployment of Irish would have been rampant, much larger than work records report - and that was not the case.
If anyone has been able to find old newspaper documentation of NINA employment adds - then I would suggest you have found records that those who have access to vast archives and databases - historians, meuseum curators, archivists and the like cannot find. Those available have been found and their numbers are few.
http://hnn.us/roundup/entries/10855.html
I find it odd that no other Catholic European group - Polish, Italian or German ever reported seeing these no need to apply employment adds.
By 1840, the Irish made up 95% of the canal workers, and 95% of the NYC longshoremen by 1900. These numbers did not come about from remaining unemployed - and becouse folk from other ethnicities and cultures encountered prejudice and exclusion.
I have no doubt that the Irish, as well as ordinary folk from other ethnicities and cultures, encountered job prejudice and exclusion. But the Irish in fact found work in every facet of American industry - America, after all, did not produce a second Irish famine … not by a long shot.
