What Happened On Day One

By Greg L | 4 March 2008 | Illegal Aliens, Prince William County | 48 Comments

The enforcement efforts in Prince William County have begun, and contrary what the illegal alien lobby has been saying, there has been no massive workplace immigration enforcement efforts, there have been no unlawful detentions of legal residents, and the county police department did not suddenly start engaging in bias-based policing. A few people were briefly questioned and sent on their way. When reality consistently demonstrates that the predictions of the illegal alien lobby are wildly wrong, at some point the media should start getting the picture that they’re doing a disservice to their readers by trumpeting these consistently incredible claims. Of course, they’re not, and they won’t.

So what did happen? The illegal alien community demonstrated that finally they take consequences for unlawful behavior credibly. Loitering day laborers were relatively scarce. Some illegal aliens decided that they better walk to their jobs rather than drive without a license and insurance. The Washington Post, in typical fashion, describes an illegal alien community that has discovered that breaking the law is not a smart thing to do.

Police officials pledged to enforce the law fairly and to not stop and question individuals based on their racial or ethnic appearance, but many Hispanic residents said they feared they would be stopped without reason and deported for such violations as driving without a valid license or having a broken taillight.

Oh, the horror! Illegal aliens are concerned that if they drive without a license they may finally suffer meaningful consequences. With our courts just packed with drivers who have been cited for driving without a license, and a steady stream of residents who can testify to the carnage that these unlicensed and uninsured drivers inflict on our community, the Rule of Law Resolution is at long-last instilling some measure of respect for the law among these serial lawbreakers. Most folks would consider this a hugely positive result, although the Washington Post seems to decry that an illegal alien who is unlawfully present in our community, and who regularly violates the law by driving without a license, might possibly be held to account.

Juan Hernandez, 32, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who works as a carpenter in Manassas, said he has stopped driving and now only walks, as fast as he can, between his apartment and his job site.

This should be tremendously reassuring to all law-abiding residents who previously were compelled to share our roads with someone who had been flouting the law.  The public safety improvement here is tremendous.

Although the police department did not take into custody anyone suspected of violating federal immigration laws yesterday, there’s a ray of hope at the end of this article that some tremendously positive effects could result.  Police pulled over Ricardo Juarez, who by all accounts is suspected to have no legal right to be in the country, albeit one week too early for him to have his legal status investigated.  He’s now trying to act like a model citizen.

Ricardo Juarez, a Woodbridge resident who is coordinator of Mexicans Without Borders, said he was stopped by a police officer last week who said he had failed to signal a turn and then asked to see his license.

“I had been very careful to signal because I saw he was following me,” Juarez said yesterday.

Let’s hope that as enforcement efforts continue, we actually start seeing some demonstrable results other than just encouraging a strongly positive change in lawful behavior from our local community of illegal aliens.  Perhaps, if Ricardo Juarez is concerned about running afoul of law enforcement efforts here, he can move to Montgomery County, MD, which is expressing concerns that they may end up with a significant portion of our illegal aliens, although not concerned enough at this point to actually do anything to enforce the law.

So it’s okay for the “Illegal Aliens” to not have a license and drive or get a license through fraud?

If it were you or I, we’d be in trouble. They should be too!

I’m all for ICE raiding these sites that hire illegals and have written letters to them (last week) of every company in this area who should be checked for either hiring these aliens or allowing them to work with documents obtained by fraud.

    From the article:

“As Prince William County cracks down on its illegal immigrant population, some residents in Montgomery County worry their property values and quality of life will take a hit as the undocumented come streaming across the Potomac, invited by the county’s more lenient approach.

“There are a lot of houses on the market in my neighborhood,” Silver Spring resident Hessie Harris said. “I quake in my boots every time a new family moves in.”

Harris said she’s worried illegal immigrants will move in, putting too many people in one house and drive down property values. The number of complaints for overcrowding in county homes has already jumped, going up by more than 20 percent in 2007 from 2006.”

    Oh… the BEAUTIFUL irony!!!!

Your illegal help is now moving to your neighborhood!!!!

Hmmm, according to the Montgomery County executive the people in his county were supposed to be much more sophisticated than us here rednecks in PWC and therefore more accepting of such diversity in their community.

    Maybe not.

“Montgomery County is already in demographic flux, as its share of Maryland’s wealthiest residents drops and lower income groups move in. In 1998, Montgomery County was responsible for 41.3 percent of the state’s income tax returns from people earning more than $200,000; by 2005 that had dropped to 37 percent.”

I remember a poster that claimed he was from Montgomery County. Smugly telling us “rednecks” we should quit griping and get educated so we could afford to move to Montgomery County.

Here comes the flood. Please don’t run to VA. We are cleaning up our mess and don’t need you adding to it. Stay in the cesspool you and your insane politicians have created.

They are now feeling OUR pain huh? Seems a bit different when the shoe is on the other foot doesn’t it? We are proud of the truck nutz our BOCS has shown in the last year!!!

Head em up, move em out!!! Time for PWC to get on the positive side of this issue. They are self deporting and this is a good thing. They haven’t felt the big crunch yet, but it is coming soon!!

Once the employers can no longer employ them, it is all over but the shoutin’!!!

I can’t wait until Fairfax County has problems with illegals on a scale like we do. You can be sure that all the libs will sing a different tune when their kids have to go to the schools with ms13 gang members and live in neighborhoods with people coming and going 24/7 with 15 to a house and white vans with ladders all over the neighborhood. They won’t stand for that for 15 minutes before all that liberal banter goes right out the window. I plan to be out with a bullhorn calling all of them racists and hypocrites on that day as a sweeeeet sense of schadenfreude washes all over me. ‘Aint karma a b1tch…

If the illegals in this country were smart (no comment) they would all head back to where they came from across the border and grab the jobs that are still available in their own countries countries while they can. Eventually it is going to come down to that. No jobs, no money!

I just heard on WMAL news that the PWCPD cannot, repeat cannot detain anyone suspected of being here illegally, unless ICE has a detainer for that person. I also heard on the same newscast that PWCPD released 4 illegals yesterday because ICE did not have any paper work. If that’s the case what’s the point of the resolution?

So, if the person commits a crime and it’s determined by the PWCPD that person is here illegally and ICE does not already have papers, PWCPD can detain them?

We all knew that there was no way that ICE was going to be able to take them all in. Logistics and common sense tells you that. ICE is a boil on the ass of the USA and they are utterly WORTHLESS. They have done nothing because they are told from above to do nothing. ICE agents are professional paycheck collectors and nothing more. The word will get around to the illegals that it is catch and release if they are caught for small fry offenses and it will be business as usual. A true leader in the BOCS would be holding press conferences and doing interviews to publicly shame the Federal Government for its lack of action and show the effects of illegal immigration on this county to the rest of the world in high def color. There are many things that could be done but aren’t, all due to spineless leaders and politics.

This is better than nothing. I think the possibility of getting arrested will create a climate of fear that will drive many away from here. Perception becomes reality, as they say.

Remember, this is a war and it won’t be won or lost by one battle.

It would be nice to see a group like Numbers USA reach out to Mr. Chertof (sp.) with HSA to let him know that catch and release is not our objective here.

My question is: What if ICE DOES have a detainer on an illegal alien, but there is no room at the inn…are they let go? And if they’re NOT let go, then why can’t ICE find room for an illegal that does’nt have a detainer?
